He moved slowly, like he didn't trust his knee. Watch the way he turns specifically. I think he has some literal growing pains (he is a big unit), and something holding him back mentally.
I need to know what his instructions were, because all the presses looked half-arsed (they may not have been, but there were a few where he sort of let the game wander by him), and I felt very unconvinced that he was ready for any step up beyond L2 on that showing.
Happy to be patient, but he moved in a way that worries me.9 -

N Jones at one point was screaming at him to press tbf.I thought he looked strong a couple of times in the air and plucked the ball out of the air and laid it off. He could be better in the future at holding up the ball, laying it off and building an attack.Needs a few games.6

We didn’t press hard all game, and that was clearly the instruction and the right thing to do against this opposition. Absolutely no point pressing QPR with Charles in goal they basically have an extra player back there to pop it round you. Nearly every time someone did press they were quickly taken out of the game by a couple of passes12

Also, to offer the other side - genuinely completely forgot when posting btw that his work to release Karlan, before he was pulled back (not given) - that was fantastic footwork to elude three QPR players, and showed some good strength. Tried to get involved in holding it up when it came away from our area, too. It was the press, specifically, that I was curious about (and what I saw more of cos they had more of the ball!).
I think we might have to put Karlan up top though, gamble with Alli and TC as wingers, play two CMs and a CDM rather than 6-8-10, and consolidate until there are others back. I think it is the least worst option for the time being and we have to adapt, improvise, overcome for a couple of games.5 -
I don't think the way we play that we can start with Grant as our striker. We just don't keep the ball on the ground enough.

Showed good quick feet a couple of times but we didn’t get him the ball anywhere near areas where he could do any damage.He was caught flat footed for the second ball from a corner though - didn’t react at all when a Godden type would have anticipated where it might go and been on the move0

He should have had another loan this season. We are not blessed for goals up front and sadly our strikers are injury prone, so he will get more championship minutes than he is ready for.

We will benefit next season more from him playing championship this season. Leaburn and TC have been 2 of our best players this season, which wouldn’t have happened if they’d gone out to league 1 last season rather than a year learning the championshipCroydon said:He should have had another loan this season. I’m happy too be patient with him as the experts obviously rate him, but anyone that sees a £7m player at the moment isn’t being honest with that appraisal. I don’t he’s a player half of that price to be honest, yet. Saying that he must be good because of said offers is an easy argument, but he needs to show it a bit, as I say I don’t think we’ve seen it. I still believe he needed another loan, as I don’t think he is going to have the impact needed in the championship at the moment.1

If you saw any of him at Colchester last season then he definitely showed signs of a player worth a lot of money. First time seeing him since the play off final. Thought he had really good close ball control but otherwise isolated. Give the lad a chance before piling in on him

Mbick has not played a single minute where we’re on the front foot looking to score. 7M looks like a stupid decision to turn down at present but the club aren’t going to judge him off 75 championship minutes and neither should we6

I’d say it is silly judging him off 70 minutes off the bench for a championship team that barely has the ball, when he’s had no pre-season and a bad injury. I’m not sure he’s even got the ball in the attacking 3rd yet so yes I’d say it is quite silly to judge him off thatSword65pf said:

Think it probably said a lot about his fitness levels when Jones decided to bring JRC on for Leaburn at Half-Time.3

Don’t think people are piling on him, problem is when you see reported sums offered they expect to see comparative performances which to be honest we haven’t seen. This season in the championship is just too soon for him. If we didnt have injuries, he would be on loan to league one this year. Hopefully Kelman and Godden are back soon so we can loan him in January. One of my bigger concerns is that we don’t have any of our center forwards who are a threat to score regularly. For as good as Leaburn has been battling and holding the ball up, he doesn’t get in good goal scoring positions often. Kelman and Godden are poachers but don’t do the things that Leaburn does well as a lone center forward. It puts a lot of pressure on our wingers to create goals for themselves. It is imperative in January that we either upgrade at CF or find an attacking mid who can play off Leaburn to add goals from the midfield.0

Young kid finding his feet at this level whilst returning from a long term injury, feeding off scraps for a team on the back foot and having hardly any possession. I think we can cut him some slack.
Realistically if Kelman and Godden were fit he probably wouldn't even be in the squad. Ideally i think he needed a league one loan this season but because of a lack of options he has stayed.8 -
He doesn't look fully fit, hopefully gets up to speed because he looks strong and v skillful.
Currently though he looks like he can't run - which is a problem for a professional footballer tbh0 -
He is a real shock, he looks like a bruiser and physical threat, he looks lost however until a ball is played into his feet. When he got it to feet last night it was like a switch had been flicked and he came alive, twice he beat not only the player attempting to out muscle him but the next couple attempting to stop him. Ignore his stature that isn't what he is obviously about and enjoy his skill whilst we still can.6

It's all very well saying 'get it into his feet and watch him come alive' but if he isn't going to show a leg, he'll never receive the ball in a dangerous area because he'll be so deep still.
Anyway, hopefully he has several extra gears. Otherwise he's a very skillful traffic cone. Jones has alluded to him not being match-fit so I'll try not to be too harsh for a few more weeks. But if he's still walking around while the opposition get the ball into our half after the international break, I'll be pitiless2 -

I think I'm going to start tagging those who are already prepared to write him off, as a reminder to start having some f**king patience in the future, maybe one day people will learn... But doubt it... Not being funny but TC is worth £20m in the current market. Can beat his man almost every time when a team presses high or when they low block. He’s clearly been working hard on his left foot this summer. End product improving, works incredibly hard, most threatening player on the pitch every game for a very defensive championship side. Other teams would absolutely demand £20m for him. We still have a Charlton L1 mindset amongst the fans. Brighton / Southampton will be paying that to sign his potential ahead of anyone else who might want to benefit from himIt means they can all clearly see something, and if they did sign him for that money, he's either going straight back into the U21s or out on loan - Its a measure of how broken finances are in Football right now, and is a measure of how long we've been away from the top table given the mentality a lot are having.0 -
