That will get the crowds flooding back!
Yea we should’ve gone for it and lost 0-3
    But that's football.

The whole point of football is that try to score a goal. If the other team is better than you, then so be it.

But QPR weren't better than us. They had players out injured & were there to be beaten. Sadly we didn't even try.
Are you conveniently leaving out the fact that we have players out injured too or what?
So we're equal with them on this injury count.
How comes we let them come at us like their at home then?
I'm with golfie on this - we didn't try to play on the front foot at all. We relied solely on the tactic of catching them on the break.
It's supposed to be entertainment. Watching Charlton now feels like an obligation.
I'm not ever going to support anyone else so if you don't like me moaning about it, tough shit. It was shit, just admit it. You were all bored out of your minds but refuse to admit it.
You don’t have a brother, do you?
    He's got 2 actually.
  • After NJ's post match on Sky I can't help but laugh about the comment about the 4th official's cat. Tonight was classic NJ, don't concede, try and nick a goal then defend it.
  • I'm happy with a point despite the disallowed goal because I feel sure QPR will feel hard done by to only share the points. Maybe it was the way we were set up but they played some lovely football with no end product.

With what exactly winning the we averaged 72% possession and 600 passes trophy.

You don’t win games passing the ball to death over 50% of their passes came from their defenders and keeper. You don’t shoot you don’t score their only goal clear chance was one we gifted.

We were pants going forward but let’s not lie and discredit all our hard work from the defensive point of view because in truth QPR also never looked liked scoring

I was there if they had a half competent poacher  they would have scored atleast 2 goals from balls flashed into the 6 yard box we defended well but they just wasn't clinical enough with us giving up space on the edge of the box constantly and the midfield camped there for most the game, even though we might struggle I'd rather play mwamba all season and let him grow atleast  he gets the ball and looks forward skip and Coventry took the piss imo when ever they got the ball which was rare chasing shadows or making up yards compensating getting to their midfield
  • I do think that this string of games has been pretty ruthless. So I can understand the tiredness of the team.

I’m not sold on Skipp and the lack of a first string right winger is going to impact us significantly over the first half of the season.
I thought he did well tonight . Bell is the one that worries me at the moment. He looks knackered
I agree about Bell, he just doesn’t look the same as he did last year. Not moving the ball as well, and seems off the pace.

Carey was invisible for most of the game, Campbell ran himself into the ground - he was definitely knackered at the end.

It is worrying that we don’t seem to be able to pressurize teams once they get possession - we need to be able to force mistakes, but we just seem too passive.

In his post-match comments, NJ pulled a face at the thought of losing players to international call-ups.  I cannot see that that will affect us much.  Which players could be involved?

I need to get off this forum tonight, full of absolute babies crying about a point and being joint 2nd in the league on points.

We’re the best we’ve been for coming up to 20 years. Honestly just go watch Arsenal or someone. Melts.

If you actually read the posts you'll find people aren't moaning about only getting a point tonight. It's the manner we went about it. There has been no real change from last season in the fact that the one missing factor still hasn't been addressed. The midfield.

I actually think most of the posts are fairly measured & accurate.  Aa they say.....you can't polish a turd.
or flush one (as per other thread).

Don't know what Harvey Knibbs has to do to start or get an appearance.

The way he warms up, his professionalism. Give him a chance

Carey is so off the boil and has been sussed out.

Yes the ref was awful, but we really miss that link between the striker and the wingers.

Yet we are sitting 5th on 11 points after 6 games which is an incredible return at this stage.

We look hard to beat and will be a pain the arse for any team.

Its not pretty but its somewhat effective.

Its going to be an interesting season

    We could finish anywhere
Sorry, but with this squad we cannot finish top two. I’d be extremely happy with mid table, or even lower mid.

    Reasonably disappointed with that!

First half ebbed and flowed, neither team making much on target in way of shots- TCs disallowed goal looked both onside and Offside everytime they showed a replay!

Second half we just didn’t come out with any bite, but going to 532 gave us more dominance and pressure higher up the field and we could have pushed on - but once again we brought on Mbick and lost all momentum and forward thrust (Micah clearly not up to championship football, and hasn’t shown otherwise despite some nice touches and play).
we seemed to be happy playing for a draw- totally bewildered that we went back to 4231 and kept Grant on who clearly was knackered and not able to pull much off on his day.

mwamba brought fresh impetus and a spark, but we took too long to introduce Alli. Would liked to have seen Nkeng on too, for a cameo especially down that right.

hopefully Leaburn isn’t injured/too badly injured as we look bereft of idea when he isn’t on the pitch - and I can’t deal with having to watch Mbick ghost around the pitch without much meaning! Kelman and Godden needed back asap.

big shout out to Amari Bell, who looks to have almost taken a downward trajectory- most passes down the line are misplaced and go out, he holds on to the ball too long and invited pressure and tackles and clearly isn’t a LB … annoyingly we looked so much more positive when Mesik got deployed there for a brief 5-10 minutes.

take the point, bounced back after a drubbing but can’t help think that we could well have got all three if we had been a bit braver with our tactics/personnel second half
We went to 4231 because (much as I like him) JRC as right wing back was suicidal - looked better when we made that switch.

Everyone on Bindons back because of that one glaring error - Mesik made a similar howler with an Ouma ball to their attacker early in the first half - when you are under so much pressure mistakes will happen. Our defence was very good again tonight - all of them

Anyone who has played football knows that if you’re playing a team with better players you can’t always play on the front foot. Even at home.

Biggest positive about tonight is we absorbed 75% possession and never really looked like we were going to concede, 1 mistake from Bindon letting in Smyth was the sum total of their clear chances.

Confused at the aggro towards the ref as well. Yes, it was a foul on Grant at the end, but it's red-tinted glasses that think Campbell was onside, he's clearly ahead of his marker on all the camera angles, close but clear. He checked his run a split second too late before accelerating past the CB.

    Looks onside.

Yeah, I thought he looked onside

i’m over from the States and enjoyed the game last night. QPR played some lovely football but with very little end product. Okonkwo was barely troubled. I thought the Covered End were immense in the 2nd half.
    A very good point.

6 games played, 11 points. Played 3 teams who are in the top 4 (early days yes but they’re obviously in form) and have a long old injury list.

Was TC offside for the disallowed goal .........and can we be the first team ever to get promoted with and average possession of <30%......... obviously no

It was a tough watch but we've got almost an entire team missing through injury and suspension and it's been a tough run with games every 3-4 days.

QPR are not a bad side and had won both their away games before last night. Their only defeat was at the weekend against Middlesbrough who spent about 40m in the summer and they were unlucky to lose it. But if you can't win the game then at least ensure you don't lose it, and we did that.

We just need to get through the next 2 games, get a few of our players back fit, and then we can kick on after the international break.

We were really poor though .  That’s not being a melt or crying - just stating facts .  Hardly strung a pass together for 90 minutes

It was all about tactics reading comments across social media people don’t understand that there are two teams playing and just once a team plays a certain system to stop another .. that’s what QPR did it was a great tactical battle .. playing 4 wide players stopped us being able to press and get our own attacking play going .. we made a switch mid half and had a better last 15 mins of the first half in which we scored .. second half again we played a low press and basically allowed QPR procession but really did not cause us to many problems defensively we were superb and with Skipp and Coventry in mid we looked very secure .. sometimes you take what you can and tonight a point was a excellent result but it should have been three …thanks linesman

6 games played with 6 goals scored. Leaving us joint 22nd for goals scored.
Was the issue last season, looks like nothing has changed there.
  • There is no chance to ease your way into a Championship season with two max intensity games a week from the off.

It's not just us though.  Miles limped off along with Lamptey and Dunne for QPR.  Nowadays squads need to be good and deep.  I remember the Peacock substitution, I also remember enjoying football back in those days, but I think the intensity of the game now is at a different level.

1965/66 One sub (Keith Peacock being the first) for an obviously injured player)
1967/68 One sub, but could be used for tactical change.
1987/88 Two subs allowed for any reason
    1995/96 Three subs
    2020,21 Five subs (temp arrangement)
2021/22 Five subs (made permanent plus a concussion sub)  Three ingame substitution windows plus half time.

It's not really a major surprise though. Our front 4 last night cost us precisely £0. The 4 subs we brought on probably cost us around 2m combined. Half of those 8 players came out of our academy.

In a division where some teams are spending 10-15m on players i don't think it's a shock that we're not not cutting teams apart and scoring 2-3 goals every week.

Okonkwo already called up as could TC, Bell, Ouma, Coventry, Mesík, Bindon, Mbick (youth team, probably unlikely), Laq (annoying for training)
  • Good point against a good side who are a lot better than when we played them in February

Injuries really hitting us in some areas (Skipp and Coventry played well but very similar) and we are missing that little bit of creativity at times

Let’s get through these next 2 games, even picking up 2 points wouldn’t be a disaster bearing in mind the level we are aiming for and then kick on after the break with a fuller squad

Shame the pricing is affecting crowds but good atmosphere last night in the second half and lack of tourists meant it was a Charlton crowd, 18k is disappointing but still more than the spanners can muster against a Premier League team the night before (for all the spanners obsessed with this site 😂)

Another big test on Saturday against a team that love playing us at The Valley

We have attempted to invest in the positions though, we've signed Grant, Alli, Nkeng. Changed the formation too but nothing seems to have changed in our in-possession chance creation.

This is it exactly. We aren't going to magically drop £10-15m on a Will Lankshear type striker so we've got to make do with what we've got. Muddle through and then hopefully after the international break we have a fully fit Godden and Kelman. Also think the injuries elsewhere in the squad probably meant bringing in another striker was probably never on the cards in the last few days of the window.

Not a great watch i agree.

But we have so many injuries at the moment we are hampered  to say the least.

Beat Portsmouth on Saturday and we will have 14 points from 7 games.

With the international break coming up and player's returning from injury I'll settle for that.

No it doesn't! Draw a line between their two positions and tell me that doesn't to the far side of the pitch right near the half way line... he's a shoulder and head ahead. It's close, but I'd be raging if that was given and it was the other way around.
