I'm no Isaac Newton, but I'm pretty sure gravity used to help in the old days.

    It still does

I've got a mate who's a bum gum enthusiast after living in Asia for a number of years. But he says they're illegal in the UK unless properly fitted. He experimented with a high-powered water pistol but it's hard to get the angle.
  • I don't think thats how you are meant to enjoy a stick of Wrigley's.

He is right, its maybe understandable water safety regs and to stop the frankly insane idea that someone would leave the action end of the bum gun in the pan water and that could mean dirty water could end up in the mains. So you essentially need two cisterns or water sources, non-return valves and a lot of mucking about. Arguably worth it for a sparkling sheriffs badge but a lot of hassle all the same.

Have a look on amazon, search portable bidet and you have your answer to the problem. A selection of answers
  • My son's previous house underwent a pretty serious refurbishment.

For reasons best known to themselves the builders left the toilet in situ until the last minute.  I don't think you could strain too hard on it for fear of collapse.  :/

The real test of toilet paper quality is not how well it flushes, it is how well it copes when the NHS has sent that kit and asks you for a streak of a dingleberry.
Very hard to contort and use a mirror too!

Be grateful you do not live out in Brazil.
The paper does not go in the toilet but in the bin instead, I use plenty of air freshener and cleaning products as you can imagine.
Same in the Dominican Republic. Presumably not in the newer tourist hotels, but I do not go near those.

Slight diversion. This country must have the lowest number of public toilets per population in the world. I live in a relatively middle-class road, and frequently see apparently respectable people pissing in the street.

In India 80% of the population has access to a mobile phone while > 60% have access to a flushing toilet.
Open defecation in the street is considered acceptable.
Yet as a nation they are nuclear armed and have landed a rover on the moon

    Very clever people.
My dad was lucky if his old Rover would start in the morning.

Travelling to Electronic City from Bangalore to visit Deutsche Bank in the late noughties….

Car passed through a village where residents could often be seen evacuating their bowels out of the window of their dwellings.

Most of said dwellings looked like they had Nutella artex daubed on the outside walls.

    Lovely!

If you all followed the example of Sheryl Crow (who famously said she only uses one square) there would be no problem.
  • The counterpoint to this issue is the magic poo.

Do your business, turn around and there is nothing in the pan, and then nothing on the paper.

It's a rare but wonderful moment.

Ah, that's probably because she uses a poo knife !

I see quite a few sights on a regular basis, but for some reason having a slash in public is very rare.

I've only used a bidet once, in Spain, following my one any only time on a horse. It was in a vain attempt to cool my saddle sores. Unfortunately, the taps appear to have been connected to a volcano and I literally burnt my entire undercarriage. It still pains me to recall this incident 50 years on.
