  • Wrexham aren't going down. The issue is that you don't spend what they spent in the summer, which was (net spend) an absolute fortune, to get humiliated 6-0.

With that spend, anything other than playoffs is a massive failure.

Wrexham have burned £40m on a tonne of average players save for Imray.

Their model requires promotion to the prem pretty damn quickly or the glossy entertainment format will start to get a bit repetitive.
Especially given they’ve got to be mindful of "the narrative" with their little TV show. Falling just short of the play offs in your first season back is fine, that's standard "plucky underdog heroes" stuff but if you follow it up with a nothingburger of a season you're just another big spending failure, which are ten a penny.

I just look at a lot of Wrexham's transfer business bar Imray and go "why". Think Chris Wilder was onto something a couple of weeks back when he said they were throwing bids in for anyone. £9m on Patterson,£9m on Nathan Broadhead last summer , £6.5m on O'Hare. No striker signed this summer so they're still relying on Smith and Moore.

The only player they've got they might sell for a big fee is Callum Doyle but they paid £8m for him in the first place. All seems incredibly short term fixes.
  • I don’t think Parkinson will be Wrexhams manager come the end of the season. He’s plenty of time to turn it around but I’m not sure he’ll be given it. There will be plenty Johnny come lately supporters saying he’s reached his ceiling and has taken them as far as he could and they might have a point. Anything less than promotion or a damned close run thing will be viewed as a big fail.

They've only ever done short term signings because in the lower divisions you can spend your way up relatively easy. Much harder at this level

Wrexham won't be the last team this season to get hammered by the hammers.
We absolutely played them at the right time.
I reckon they will be 5 or 6 points clear at the top come Christmas.

Which is why I thought they'd learn to stop signing 28-32+ year old championship players for stupid fees and actually try and build something for the long term. Just feels like a strategy that's doomed for failure when you aren't the big fish in a small pond financially anymore and can't just pay silly wages.

Do they have the long term on their side?  Their entire existence is based on Hollywood/Netflix.  If they stagnate that gets bored and moves away.  Then with huge bills to pay, the 2 actors will disappear and they will go bust.
It feels genuinely a case of Premier League or bust to me.

Wrexham is a massive gamble. The new stand is massively over budget and the squad isn’t worth anything like what it cost. Their strategy so far has been sign players for inflated fees and then pay their contracts off as they have been promoted. That just won’t work now as the cash required is enormous. Parky will be gone by Xmas and some profile name will come in. I would never normally wish bad things on any club but relegation would be so funny as the total sense of entitlement of most of their fans is just annoying and I know a lot of them so speaking from experience

Especially if the bad results continue and the series needs a plot twist of the manager getting fired to keep the engagement, even if that's just to placate the Netflix execs. Bit of a shit existence really.

    I'm not laughing, you are.

QPR manager looks like a flasher on the sideline with that mac on.
  • Should be amusing watching both wba/qpr passing themselves to death.

Wonder who will keep possession more?

Exactly what's happened so far. Pretty to watch but no shots from either side...

Cardiff way better than Bolton but still manage to lose.

A relegation side still. We need to win there next week, as they are there for the taking and our style suits teams like them all day long.

Wow just seen it!! - Yeah... thats not good
  • Even with the takeover issues, Derby have had a shocking start to the season,  when you consider they finished 8th last season,  have the same manager and most of the same players.

A lot of the teams down there now will stay there all season

Bolton, Blackburn, Portsmouth, Lincoln, Preston, Derby and Cardiff I expect all to be in the bottom half of the table

There was a bad miss somewhere, really bad, historically bad? In a championship match today at around 2.19pm?

As it stands we could be level on points with top if we can stick one away this half

  • Preston losing at home to Lincoln could be terminal for Heckingbottom.
And how long before Burnley ask Parker to come back?
