3 games without a goal
2 goals in the last 5 games.
Only one team (Lincoln) have scored less than us, and they also played a game less too.
Nothing had really changed from last season with regard to our attacking intent. Nothing in midfield to create chances & Leaburn is not a "sniffer" or fox in the box so any half chances go a'beggjng.
As for NJ and his non use of the subs. Just baffling. Never want to hear him moan about fixture schedules or muscle injuries again.6 -
Hope NJ gets asked about why not using more subs, from the outside seemed like a no brainer to bring some on.Couldn’t blame Knibbs for looking for a Jan exit if he continues to be over looked.
aside all that great position to be in the league and we 1 game away from a good break players come back etc. COYR1 -
Portsmouth didn’t.msomerton said:
Every other team has played Saturday and midweek as us, so that is not an excuse.Ilovelondontown said:Shit ref aside, that was 2 points dropped from a winnable game, nj has harped on about playing Wednesday Saturday Wednesday, players are fucked and makes 1 sub, grant and alli had to come off for knibbs/carey & the young winger from Wimbledon, what do these players Ned to do to get a game when half the team are fucked?
so disappointed!31 -
Was surprised Knibbs didn't go in the last few days of the window. Would have thought we would have had some L1 interest given his record at that level.Kinsella87 said:Hope NJ gets asked about why not using more subs, from the outside seemed like a no brainer to bring some on.Couldn’t blame Knibbs for looking for a Jan exit if he continues to be over looked.

Entertaining game, disappointing result:
👉 Far better than them in the first half.
👉 Looked tired for much of the second, somehow we found some energy at the end.
👉 Skipp and Coventry seem to be building an excellent partnership. I find the criticism of them baffling.
👉 The quality of our tackling today was on a whole new level. The timing, the power and the determination. First class.
👉 Leaburn played that first half like a man possessed. I so look forward to him scoring. Got a feeling the dam is gonna break.
👉 I get the criticism of Nathan re the subs, but TBH no one on our bench inspires me either, so I wouldn't be too harsh on him.
👉 Once again the officials had a shocker. It's like amateur hour, except that these guys are really well paid. The quality of reffing absolutely has to improve.24 -
First half was bright with a couple of efforts which were fairly comfortable ale for the keeper and then the shocking miss by Alli. A real shame given the abuse he was getting.
Second half they started brighter and had the chance that led to a very good save from Arthur. After that it was a bit chaotic at times and I agree that some of the team, Grant in particular look off it from around the hour nark
Nobody performed poorly. I thought Skipp and Coventry played well together and Leaburn had another good game.
Binden doesn’t inspire me with confidence. He seems neither a technically gifted ball playing centre back nor a tough tackling one - he looks a bit lightweight to me.
Quick word for Knibbs. Basically warms up all game and constantly encourages and cajoles the players on the pitch. Hope he gets a chance soon.6 -
The guy behind me was adamant that it wasn't a foul on Leaburn, but I thought it was. Miles was in a prime position to head that in so, if the push wasn't hard enough to knock him over, I feel he has to take some responsibility, especially given how poor the ref was in the second half.
I do feel for Leaburn. He must hold the record for the most fouls suffered that aren't awarded season after season.
The thing I can't get over is how the ref was so good in the first half (one soft foul given against both teams and one foul missed each way), but so terrible in the second. Perhaps he caught Nathan Jones pissing in his half time cup of tea.
The moment when Leaburn was offside, so avoided getting involved, only for TC to be flagged offside when there were about six players between him and the ball at the time it was played was completely baffling. The linesman is evidently over 20 years behind on the rules of the game.
As others have said, I can't understand why we didn't make subs. It was evident in the second half that they were much less tired than us and we should have been making changes around the 60 minute mark.
A quality performance from Coventry today who seemed to cover every hole in defence for the entire game.7 -
Can those who are criticising the Cov Skipp midfield partnership explain why please?
I genuinely don’t get it. For me they’ve been our brightest area32 -

There was not only the obvious corner that both the ref and lino missed, and the penalty, but how does the ref give offside from behind the play when the lino hasn’t moved a muscle? We are not getting the rub of the green, although if we keep missing chances like Alli’s we will be amongst the low scorers again this season.2

Not enough fast paced attacking heavy metal football mate. The kind we'd get if we played Ouma, except people don't want that, or Mwamba except he didn't look like he should be starting last time we did that. Nobody wants any of the other players we have to play there but of course there's always the fictional fantasy world where we're more flowing and attacking and score tonnes of goals. If Jones just picked the glorious imagined team we'd be topTheHerminator said:Can those who are criticising the Cov Skipp midfield partnership explain why please?

That was so much better than against QPR when we made them look like a poor man's Barca. Huffed and puffed and posed more of a threat. The real issue seems to be composure and over eagerness leading to some rushed/poor decision making. A goal for Leaburn would be great and returning players to add depth.2

Coventry had a good game but 35 year old Marlon Pack showed us what type of player we need next to him. He ran the game and easily MOTM. Chalobah a huge miss.TheHerminator said:Can those who are criticising the Cov Skipp midfield partnership explain why please?

After the first half dominance I expected our team to put Pompey to the sword in the second half.
Kicking towards the covered end with our tails up what could possibly go wrong? Oh this is Charlton nearly forgot. We tired badly Nath doesn't trust the bench and we fall back and defend for our lives on tired and exhausted limbs. Even when we rallied in the dying minutes the officials managed to conspire against us. First missing the Leaburn pen and then quite inexplicably the corner that 18,000 people saw and only one missed - and he happened to be the lino
.
We're in a good position going into the break, lets hope we emerge on the other side (as Nathan always says) as the best version of ourselves.2 -
This place would be in meltdown if we signed Marlon packcs1986 said:

Can we as a club make a video dossier of all the decisions that go against Leaburn and send it to the League? The refs are so limited at this level that they ignore fouls on him because he is big! That can be the only explanation.4
-
Good first half but a bit more scrappy in possession 2nd half. Surprised Jones took so long to only make 1 change given how leggy some of our players were. Can't pick out a poor performance (not that i'd want to) but Alli was perhaps trying a little too hard. Skipp was everywhere.
So frustrating that a ref can give a penalty like the one at Stoke but not for a blatant shove on Leaburn. Plus the only one to not think it was a corner just after was the only person that mattered.5 -
His passing, movement and control was great. I obviously dont want him but he was controlling and dictating the pace of the game.AberystwythAddick said:

At what point did Knibbs change from "a finisher" to The Invisible Man?1

If only we scored as many goals as you make completly unsubstantiated comments (after not even watching the game). You seem to relish a loss or a draw in the most baffling way.golfaddick said:

Yes we do need a striker, there is over reliance upon the midfield for goals and today was frustrating since we played well, however we have improved in virtually every area and look like a championship side again, albeit a tired championship side today
Really the only continuity from, and similarity to, last season is you wanging on endlessly and gleefully about the same things over and over and over. Even when we win you have to get a dig in!
Buy a ticket - attend - reconnect - enjoy it again.14 -
Really want to see that penalty shout back as I've got an entire WhatsApp group saying it wasn't, but everyone on here adamant it was.0
-
The other thing at this level is the ref is wired to his assistants although a lot of them clearly don't call things other than offside. Not saying we shoud have VAR but if we did we would be a few points clear at the top. I see a clear Birminingham goal was given offside during the week too. This is a big issue for the league.1
-
I didn’t see the QPR game so can’t comment on his performance against them, but Skipp vs Stoke and Skipp today were day and night. He was excellent today. Not suggesting Coventry should be left out, but I would like to see Chalobah and Skipp together.5

Not sure what is going on with Knibbs either.
Had an excellent pre-season and seems to be completely in the cold at the moment. Deserves some game time in the 10 role imo7 -
I was getting worried when you named TC in your starting 11, but good to see you’re back on form today Ronnie.RonnieMoore said:Campbell was sadly lacking today .. lost count how many times he failed to get the ball across in good positions .. after excellent few weeks we gone back to the Campbell of last season sadly ..6 -
