I sit close to Jim Rodwell right by the press box and as he walked back into the lounge he looked exasperated and had a furrowed brow, the lack of chances must be concerning him.
You got that just by looking at him?

Campbell was sadly lacking today .. lost count how many times he failed to get the ball across in good positions .. after excellent few weeks we gone back to the Campbell of last season sadly ..
Agree. He tried but his crossing was generally easy to repel.
  • Eh, another day Ali scores in the first half, we get the Leaburn pen and it's a routine 3 points. Annoying to not get it done but seems like we're in a good place to me.

A win at Cardiff to settle any jitters and get the squad fully fit over the break please!

I love TC, but his final ball again today was very poor.

It’s the same team mentality and performance as last season. The names on some of the shirts is the only difference

Shit ref aside, that was 2 points dropped from a winnable game, nj has harped on about playing Wednesday Saturday Wednesday, players are fucked and makes 1 sub, grant and alli had to come off for knibbs/carey & the young winger from Wimbledon, what do these players Ned to do to get a game when half the team are fucked?
    so disappointed!
Every other team has played Saturday and midweek as us, so that is not an excuse.
Portsmouth didn’t play midweek - their game was postponed. They last played on Saturday.
  • I mean TC did put the ball on a plate for Alli!

Played well in the first half.

Played poorly in the second half.

Think we’re starting to see the impact of us not spending funds on a quality Number 10.

Guessing that Jones doesn’t trust lots of his subs bench after recent performances.
    Or a goal scorer

I quite enjoyed that despite not scoring when we were on top first half, Skipp much better today, Cov MOTM for me.
Lack of subs was baffling and shows NJ really doesn't trust some of them to see out the game, really hope Miles gets the goal he deserves soon before the usual moaners get on his back and his head drops.
I like Mesik and would happily have him starting a LB to get a proper run of games, still unsure about Bindon, reminds a bit of Naby - mostly untroubled for large parts of the game but then looks like a howler could come out of nowhere, 3 points at Cardiff next week and it will be an excellent start to the season.

  • A shame about the Alli miss, as I think the Pompey taunts were getting to him, and that would have a great moment for him. Instead,  he seemed to wilt.

Skipp and Coventry excellent,  Okonkwo really solid,  while Miles was excellent and worked really hard. Bindon does have a mistake in him,  and considering he was well rested, Danny Mac was a bit disappointing.

Baffled by the lack of subs, when Pompey were already more fresh than us, then used their bench. You can't just bin off several squad players like the way NJ seems to have done.

I'm not sure the Leaburn challenge was a penalty,  but it was as much of one as the Ouma one.

NJ only making one sub is ridiculous….could see players were tired…don’t think you can play Skipp and Cov together if u want to score
One of the best CM displays in years and you come out with that? What exactly could they have done? Tell our forwards to cross and finish better, and say pretty please?
Same type of player….Cov played well and Skipp was ok….great tackle to stop a breakaway….but who is going to play the creative role?
Skipp is settling in. Each game he plays a bit better. At present his priority is his defensive duty. Once he has built an instinctive relationship with those around him, he will be more adventurous in starting attacks.

Nothing wrong with two midfielders being the same type of player. Many of the greatest club and national teams in history had exactly that setup. The problem is we are playing with four attackers which leaves the two midfielders too much ground to cover.. That is why we wanted to sign Jordan Holsgrove to give a better balance. He would make a nice Christmas present for Charlton fans.

Campbell should have played a better ball then

He also stuck a good ball on Grants head second half. He looked knackered though

Insert Pompey for Cardiff and you get virtually word for word what everyone was saying after the game on Wed.

At some point you need to win, especially at home, not keep hoping to win the next one (esp when its away)

At least 2 points dropped over the week....maybe 4 dropped.

And FWIW......I think we'll stay up this season but there is still so so far to go its impossible to say., but we've had a good start and half a dozen points ahead of the "relegation pack"

And finally.......if NJ doesn't "trust his bench" (as has been said a few times on here tonight) then why not?  He brought them in fgs !  At least HE can take the blame for that  !

    No, but it's funny
    Pathetic more like.

And did any journo's ask him about the lack of subs, esp when he's been moaning about the scheduling.

NJ would be best to reflect on his shortcomings,  not those of a player who had now left (and who NJ himself brought in last season).
If only we scored as many goals as you make completly unsubstantiated comments (after not even watching the game). You seem to relish a loss or a draw in the most baffling way.

Yes we do need a striker, there is over reliance upon the midfield for goals and today was frustrating since we played well, however we have improved in virtually every area and look like a championship side again, albeit a tired championship side today

Really the only continuity from, and similarity to, last season is you wanging on endlessly and gleefully about the same things over and over and over. Even when we win you have to get a dig in!

Buy a ticket - attend - reconnect - enjoy it again.

NK and Knibbs have to be given a chance

Who is NK?  Don't tell me we sneakily added an out-of-contract player behind my back!

I thought you would be rooting for Tiitinen to play. He is certainly the right type of player we need, but probably a couple of years away from the first team.

Not had a roast dinner for months - last one probably March or April.

It’s been a gruelling schedule. We’ve been carrying too many injuries which has forced some players to play a few more minutes than would be ideal but also resulted in increased chopping and changing that has not helped some new players, of which there are plenty, settle in.

It’s no surprise we still look a little disjointed and tired at times.

Despite that, we’ve made it to mid September with only one defeat. We sit 6th in the early season table and, I’m sorry, but if anyone genuinely believes, despite us not scoring for a couple of games, that our attacking play isn’t at least a couple of notches above last season then you need to go back and rewatch a few games.

Feels like 2 points left on the table today, which we can’t afford to do at home too often, but everything is such fine margins at this level. We’ve had a run where every big 50:50 refereeing decisions has gone the other way and could very easily have won one-nil mid week with a different Lino and won today with a late penalty (or if Alli puts away the one “big chance” of the match).

Yes, we could have more points, yes this team is not a finished article but we shouldn’t expect it to be. We need some of the squad players to bed in and step up a bit, but to me we look like a better side than last season and like a classic mid table team that’ll win some lose some and draw a lot more. If that holds true for the rest of season we should all be delighted with that given we’re, what, not even 2 years from the infamous “Crawley at home” yet?

    Just a bit of perspective.

Jones tactics there so frustrating; completely in control first half but momentum swung second half, players looked tired, yet he just watched it happening and seemed completely resistant to making a change and then the change he did make was so odd! A player who isn’t high energy doesn’t really make impacts and hasn’t played for many months 🤯

so frustrating as  game was there to win

Best performance I have seen this season.
    Leaburn heroic.
Coventry excellent and good understanding with Skipp who also looked solid.
Lack of magic and guile in their box.
I think the goals will come.

Enjoyable. Grant at 10 a big plus.
Bad passing in the 2nd half gave Pompey the initiative after a great first half. Alli… oh dear!

Back to "TC has no end product" again it seems. Indeed, no goals or assists this game but could he maybe be cut some slack for gifting Alli the simplest of opportunities from less than 3 yards out? No? Thought not

Did Kelman actually touch the ball in his 17 minutes? Perhaps he did in the melees at corners where it was hard to see what was going on (or so the referee told me).

Not there today & neither did I watch it online so cant comment on the match itself.  But......

    3 games without a goal
2 goals in the last 5 games.
Only one team (Lincoln) have scored less than us, and they also played a game less too.

Nothing had really changed from last season with regard to our attacking intent. Nothing in midfield to create chances & Leaburn is not a "sniffer" or fox in the box so any half chances go a'beggjng.

As for NJ and his non use of the subs. Just baffling. Never want to hear him moan about fixture schedules or muscle injuries again.

How many matches do you actually go to? Think you might spend more time on Charlton Life than you do at the Valley.

You’ve been waiting weeks to get back to having another go at him on him.

Haven’t even put anything else about the match here.

The sort of fan that is embarrassing!

We look unfit. Players blowing at their arse from I60 mins onwards. The game is screaming for subs and we make one.

2 wide men who can't cross. Alli was so poor after his miss.

We made some great defensive additions in the summer but our inability to improve our attacking options means we are unable to break shit teams down. Horrific to watch.
I thought TC out in quite a few good crosses today

Considering he didn’t go or watch 16 comments over the match thread and post match thread is pretty impressive. Almost like he doesn't have a clue what he’s talking about.

Great getting all these clean sheets, but we are supposed to score some at the same time, still another point to the tally and on we travel to Wales where Cardiff await winless in 21st place on 4 points, no doubt their fans will give Nathan a warm welcome... surely we will score next week, yes next week, we actually have a whole week to prepare...yipeeeee
