Premier League 26/27

I was referring to the charge that Slot never won the league as it was 'Klopp's team', which kept getting repeated by absolute idiots despite it (or perhaps because of it) being absolutely idiotic2
-
I get why people say it was Klopp's team though, as that summer Liverpool didn't sign anyone (only Chiesa) and Slot had to make do with what was already there. However i don't think Slot is some managerial genius and Liverpool suddenly ran away with the league because of him.Leuth said:I was referring to the charge that Slot never won the league as it was 'Klopp's team', which kept getting repeated by absolute idiots despite it (or perhaps because of it) being absolutely idiotic
Ultimately it was basically because of an all timer season from Salah (29 goals + 18 assists) that won it. It will be a long time before we see those numbers from 1 player again.0 -
Unless Harry Kane comes back to Tottenham! :-)Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Don’t know if it’s been said but Konsa gave away a very similar pen to Ouma0

Very harsh to suggest they won the League based purely on Salah. Lots of players have exceptional individual seasons and it doesn't always translate to title wins.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

If you listen to anyone who has won the Premier League they will tell you how difficult it is to win. Slot won it on his first season, managing a transition from an all time great manager, and without signing a single first team player. Clubs are routinely spending hundreds of millions a season to try and compete in the top half and Slot won a title spending nothing.
I actually think it was a very under rated achievement. Granted the second season was poor but in the same way winning one title doesn't make him an all time great, one poor season doesn't make him a buffoon like some Liverpool fans seem to suggest.
I loved Klopp and clearly his record stacks up better than Slot's overall but let's not forget they both won the same amount of league titles. Klopp had Salah, Van Dijk, Robertson etc at their peak and still only got it over the line once.1 -
Dave Mackay has the same number of league titles as Brian Clough, but nobody considers him to be the same level of manager, as he inherited Clough's team.
Which isn't to say that Slot didn't do a good job, but he inherited a very good team, that the previous season finished 3rd with 82 points. Slot won with 84 points, the big difference being that City and Arsenal were much worse than in the previous season.1 -

Very weird summer transfer window for them, feel like they brought in a load of young players for the future but not a lot of players for "right now" to improve them.MrBurns said:How long until Fat Frank is sacked
Probably hoping for a miracle to stay up and if not they take the money, pocket a lot of it and hope they're younger players get them up again next year5 -
Yeah they've signed a lot of young players for big fees but not a lot of prem nous which I think they've missed a trick with.sam3110 said:

I mean it’s the best way to try and do it for a team with less finances than their competitors.sam3110 said:

staying up at the first time of asking in the prem is so insanely difficult0 -
The problem is, even if they've had the conversation and are genuinely okay with going down because they believe they'll come back stronger next season with the experience, if Coventry start getting pumped every week, it’ll become toxic. At that point, Lampard will probably have to go regardless.

I notice, prematch, that the sky presenter spoke about all the prem clubs being united in an effort to raise awareness and support for people affected by suicide and suicidal thoughts. Very commendable.
She then said anyone affected should call the number coming up on screen. Unfortunately, they then went straight to adverts. The number never appeared.
Pretty shameful.0 -
I quite like Haaland telling Foden to just get off the pitch!0

Brainless from Foden but Fernandes is lucky not to be booked at least3

Hmm, Bruno a bit naughty there as well and got away with it.Foden bit of an idiot reacting though.2

I don’t see how Fernandes got nothing for that.1 -

As a neutral it should've been a yellow for Fernandez and Red for Foden.3

Listening on the radio but is it the case where the ref could of easily said FFS lads what are you doing? And book them both for being idiots.0

In the age of VAR Foden has to go for that. We can't just start allowing players to kick out at opponents because 'it's a derby'.Karim_myBagheri said:Listening on the radio but is it the case where the ref could of easily said FFS lads what are you doing? And book them both for being idiots.1 -
No, Foden’s kicked out and put his studs in Fernandes’ stomach. It’s a red all day longKarim_myBagheri said:Listening on the radio but is it the case where the ref could of easily said FFS lads what are you doing? And book them both for being idiots.4 -

Nothing to do with VAR ?
Retaliation kicks into the gut have always been red cards.
Red and Yellow cards were introduced into the English domestic game in 1976 before that it was the fickle finger of fate pointing to the dressing room for kicks in the gut etc.

Foden missed a trick. After being kicked he should have rolled around for a few minutes. The minimum that Fernandes would have got is a yellow.1
