I don’t like VAR, I’m happy to accept the officials are sometimes wrong and make wrong decisions. I’d rather live with that than VAR intervene excessively.
Per IFAB Law 11, a player in an offside position can be penalised for clearly attempting to play the ball (or other obvious actions) if it impacts an opponent, even without touching it.

Excuse the cynicism, but I’m not convinced there’d be such an uproar if this had happened to, say, Fulham or Ipswich.

Michael Oliver is the highest rated referee in the Premier with the retirement of Antony Taylor.
Oliver must know the 4 sections on interfering with play by a player in an offside decision by heart.
Oliver has been the referee in 546 matches in Premier, WC and top European matches as he is a busy guy.
He knows every rule inside out.
Yet somehow he let a Video assistant referee called Matt Donohue, who didn't understand the rules on interfering with Play tell him the goal was going to be allowed despite Enzo clearing driving for the ball in an offside position which the defender was affected by.
Donohue was a Linesman(Ass ref) who thought he would try being a ref. He has been the referee in 5 Premier matches before being fast tracked to be a Video assistant referee.
Now I don't care if you hate Man united, Arsenal or like me Chelsea; that was a shocking decision and Neville was right that an apology from PGMOL(or is pro ref different ?)would be issued to United by late Sunday Evening, and it was.
