    The thing with needing “gambling money” is that there’s barely any additional headroom in terms of what we could actually spend on players within the rules. Last season we spent roughly the max, this season would be fairly close if the JRS deal hadn’t fallen apart. Wrexham can spend £70m or whatever because they have such high commercial revenue.

    That’s because they’ve spent the money horrendously. Any smart businessman looking at investing in a championship club would be much better off picking up a Portsmouth for 50M and then giving them 50M of investment opposed to buying a Charlton flat out for 100M. You could build a playoff team for 50M if spent correctly

    What is needed is almost like a triage number to ring or email address to contact - you contact that and only that and the onus is then on the person at the club on the other end to pass it on to the appropriate person.     I think it just emphasises how ineffective it is in carrying out that function. In absolutely disgusted that @Kap10 never got a response from the club or the Fans Advocates when he contacted them with his issue. 

    Well, i used that fans email yesterday to request info re parking spaces - i don't hold out much hope of getting one but would like to know how much / what the process / waiting list is etc - just a reply telling me i've got no chance will be something having been blanked completely for the last few years - lets see  
    Well, this was on the site for the QPR game: Matchday parking is available at The Valley for this fixture. Click here to secure your space.

    That takes you to the payment site. As far as I can tell West Stand car park is for hospitality only and costs £50 per match. They also sell spaces at Makro for £25

    thanks - looking for a space in the ground for a season for the foreseeable. Suspect you are right and its linked to hospitality packages ?? Will wait for the reply. Nothing so far

    Two seasons ago I had a season's parking pass at the Valley which cost £580 (if I remember correctly) but did not include cup games. Last season I was told there was a reduction in parking spaces so I could not have one. I was finally offered a season parking pass at Makro's for £350 which was just about in my walking distance. This season, it was August before the club said I could renew my parking pass at Makro's for £385. None of these have included cup games and last season on New Years Day Makro's was shut when we turned up to park but were early enough that we were allowed in the Valley car park.
    Makro's is much easier to get away from after the game but as I get older and my mobility gets more restrictive I wonder if, after 61 seasons, I am not the type of fan Charlton wants to encourage.

    Thanks, that's useful and sounds like its going to be virtually impossible to get anything at the Valley, as i thought - we used to park up the top near the lido but have now moved to parking near the anchor and hope pub (not that much further than makro's) as its getting a struggle for my dad walking up and down the hill. That is working okay for now but i'm sure some sort of restrictions will be imposed at some point so be nice to know what it would take to get into the valley car park. Probably a couple of relegations and a dismantling of the fanzone in reality but be nice to hear back from the club - i won't hold my breath.

    It’s been suggested previously to offer park and ride via VEX from Bluewater. Ed Warrick said he’d look into it last season but he’s gone now. And currently there are issues with the existing VEX coach parking due to the ongoing roadworks. Agree it needs and merits attention.

    At the end of the day we just have to accept that in order to go to the valley on matchday is a pain in the arse. The parking restrictions have made things worse, I’m sure it isn’t going to get any easier particularly if we continue on our current trend and eventually do get into the premiership. Trying to get 20000+ into Charlton is not an easy feat

    I use it but you have to get it booked weeks in advance ( and it still cost me £25 )otherwise you
    are left with piss takers who want to charge you £50 + to park in there run down drive.  
    It’s the biggest reason why I don’t get to many games now and add the ridiculous ticket prices , that’s the final nail in the coffin . 

    As much as I love The Valley , we desperately need an out of town stadium because this club is going to die without the real fans turning up.

    Blows my mind that people can moan about the location of The Valley. Some of you clearly do not travel to many other grounds.

    Two mainline stations within a 15-20 minute walk, tube within a 40 minute walk, loads of buses on the main road and in the village, and right next to one of the most historical parts of the greatest city in the world. But yeah, parking is a bit of a pain so let's fuck that off and move to Bluewater. Insane.
    Agreed, there is a real sense from some that the club should have moved with them to north Kent or the Medway towns. 

    There are loads of way to get to the Valley, the parking hasn’t effected me in anyway, still park 10 minutes from the ground and there is plenty of places to park near to The Valley, or getting a bus or train a couple of stops.

    I would suggest that access to the Valley, either by car or public transport, is no worse, even easier actually than access to the Amex stadium Brighton.
    Brighton can get attendances of 31,000 into their ground pretty frequently.
    I can’t see a decent case for us leaving the Valley. Indeed if a miracle happened and we went up I would hope the money could be used to pay off debts and buy back the Valley for the club and accept the likelihood of relegation, then move on with the parachute payments and a more coherent football club.

    The AMEX is an absolute nightmare as someone that lives locally. Falmer Station isn't meant for the crowds they get and the Park and Ride is a pain.

    Mark my world . The supporter base is getting older not younger and parking , ticket prices and match day experience, food , drinks etc.. ARE putting people off going and that’s without mentioning the dreadful style of football we have to endure .

Last season I was told there was a reduction in parking spaces so I could not have one. I was finally offered a season parking pass at Makro's for £350 which was just about in my walking distance. This season, it was August before the club said I could renew my parking pass at Makro's for £385. None of these have included cup games and last season on New Years Day Makro's was shut when we turned up to park but were early enough that we were allowed in the Valley car park.
    Makro's is much easier to get away from after the game but as I get older and my mobility gets more restrictive I wonder if, after 61 seasons, I am not the type of fan Charlton wants to encourage.

    Thanks, that's useful and sounds like its going to be virtually impossible to get anything at the Valley, as i thought - we used to park up the top near the lido but have now moved to parking near the anchor and hope pub (not that much further than makro's) as its getting a struggle for my dad walking up and down the hill. That is working okay for now but i'm sure some sort of restrictions will be imposed at some point so be nice to know what it would take to get into the valley car park. Probably a couple of relegations and a dismantling of the fanzone in reality but be nice to hear back from the club - i won't hold my breath. 
    Have you thought about using JustPark ?  Maybe someone close to the ground may be able to rent out their drive on a matchday. I was thinking about this & also thinking going down on a non-matchday when it’s not busy and knocking on a few doors and asking. 
    I use it but you have to get it booked weeks in advance ( and it still cost me £25 )otherwise you
    are left with piss takers who want to charge you £50 + to park in there run down drive.  
    It’s the biggest reason why I don’t get to many games now and add the ridiculous ticket prices , that’s the final nail in the coffin . 

    As much as I love The Valley , we desperately need an out of town stadium because this club is going to die without the real fans turning up.

    Blows my mind that people can moan about the location of The Valley. Some of you clearly do not travel to many other grounds.

    Two mainline stations within a 15-20 minute walk, tube within a 40 minute walk, loads of buses on the main road and in the village, and right next to one of the most historical parts of the greatest city in the world. But yeah, parking is a bit of a pain so let's fuck that off and move to Bluewater. Insane.

    Where did I complain about the location of The valley or public transport? Who mentioned Bluewater?

    Mark my world . The supporter base is getting older not younger and parking , ticket prices and match day experience, food , drinks etc.. ARE putting people off going and that’s without mentioning the dreadful style of football we have to endure . 
    And yet the other day you were moaning about kids for a quid, a scheme designed to help the supporter base get younger. And not to be bleak but what happens in 30 years or so when the club have catered to the older fan that can no longer attend?

    Surely you work on fixing the match day experience rather than move! 
    It would be a start but there’s been no sign of that happening for a very long time .

    Valley Express is a decent service and reasonably priced.
    Dartford Council have their offices next to the station and you can park there for free at the weekends. C£8 return without rail card.

    All of those things are true, Beds. Parking close to the stadium is no better or worse than most grounds, public transport probably better than most,  attracting the next generations is key (16-21s for £15/£20, local marketing in what is a densely populated area etc...), food and drink should and must improve, and success on the pitch is ultimately the main driver for attendances.

    Apart from the first two (and I don't believe they are major negatives) none of the others is anything to do with the location of The Valley.
