I could have sworn both teams scored last game of last season so this is factually bollocks isn't it?

    It's factually funny.

    Spurs won’t be getting relegated.
If they were to go down last season was it.

On the plus side, 1961 and counting for many more seasons.

I’ve not worked it out but can’t see why it isn’t right.

Now I have worked it out - June, July and August so that’s 92 days, now 15th Sept so that’s 107 days total for starters. Last games 24th May so add another 7 and that’s 114.

Saturday is a big game.  Ideal opposition in Villa, I think they’re a mess and Good Ebening will leave this season or be sacked

If they do somehow lose, De Zerbi will definitely be under pressure with 3 weeks to wait until the next game

It bollox as they both scored 114 days ago on the last day of the season.

It is true however to say that West Ham have scored more recently in the Premier League (94th minute that day), than Spurs have (43rd minute that day).

    Which is just as funny.

He kept them up(unfortunately) and with that would have come a MASSIVE bonus, then if he were to be sacked he would get loads more(and good luck to him).
The above aside, your post is why it is fantastic to be a manager as they are given zero time before the clamour for getting the sack.  Ffs, supporters must want managers to be on 10 games rolling contracts.

My closest mates who are Spurs are of the opinion he should be given time and I agree.  He’s bought a lot of individually talented players, but will they gel, they need time for that

The way the media is and with the likes of Cundy etc and the other stuff Spurs have gotten over social media for the past 2 years, Sat is still a big game for them.  You can imagine the meltdown if they lose.  They haven’t scored in 4 league games so far

it wouldn’t be a disaster if they drew, and I don’t think he’ll get the sack if he loses, but lose, and things will definitely get ramped up on the pressure front

I agree with all of that @Cabbles.

I don't know if anyone watched the cup game last night but with 8 changes, I thought there was a lot of positive signs.  On another day, we should have scored 4 or 5.  Bergvall & Kudus missed relative sitters 1st half, Marmoush & Savio should have scored in the 2nd.  Despite conceding 3, we created the best chances in the game and their keeper made more saves than ours.  The scoreline flattered LIverpool and doesn't tell the full story, despite every report going in for the full Spurs pile on.

Villa at home is now in the must win category in my eyes.  Would be unthinkable to go into a 3 week international break without a bloody win.

We didn't play badly against Newcastle, Forest or Everton.  We dominated possession in all 3 games and were the better side.  We just didn't create anywhere near enough and when we did create, we didn't take the chances.

FWIW, I thought the first 20 mins against Everton, we were absolutely outstanding with and without the ball.  The aim no doubt is to dominate like that for 90+ minutes and that will come once every body is fit and knows the system.

RDZ is still trying to work out what his best side is.  Bentancur has been our best player by a country mile this season so far and is dominating games like you would have expected Tonali to be doing.  He was outstanding against Forest and Everton.

Once the midfield start finding their relationship with the front players, the chances will come.  Hopefully a now fit Maddison & Kudus will be pushing to start in the no.10 role, to start linking everything together as thats what we have desperately missed.

I'm still feeling positive.  Not panic stations just yet.  The game on Sat lunchtime against Villa is now absolutely massive, we must win / absolutely must not lose that game.

There's definitely no need to panic and i do think it will eventually click for Spurs, but there are two major issues.

One is Bentancur who you say has been by far your best player. If you spend close to 400m on a new midfield and attack and your best player is a 29 year old DM who was already at the club then something isn't working.

Second issue is why on earth did you sell Djed Spence? Porro has hardly played and you're left playing Archie Gray at RB, who whilst i accept is a talented player, he is not a Premier league level right back.

Yes, same as what my mates said.  Brentford a really poor result and there wasn’t much to hide behind other than completely new team and opening day results can catch teams out.  You were on top against Newcastle and couldn’t capitalize, and then imo 2 draws is progress.  Unfortunately the clamor for a win and no goals has somewhat detracted from that and keeping 2 clean sheets is a solid foundation to build on

Hopefully the win is Sat and that could kick them on.  As a neutral, the only reservations I have is will those players click as a team.  Savio/Marmoush are very confident that they can take players on, but there has to be an end product.

I don’t know the ins and outs of Spence moving, but after the WC he had, I’d have thought he would’ve been a great player to return and one to build the team around

We are all bewildered that Spence was allowed to leave.  Totally understand he wanted to be a starter and it was unlikely he was going to shift Porro.

I still stand by what I said previously that Spence should have been starting instead of Porro.  He defends, can track runners from deep, everything Porro cant do.  Porro is better going forward.

Agree too re: Bentancur.  Does feel strange he seems to be first on the team sheet now, what with £180m spent on Fernandez and Tonali.

Was listening to Jack Pitt-Brooke (the Athletic journalist) on a View from the Lane pod this afternoon and he said the self-same thing.

Tottenham Hale was shut for the Everton game.  Hung around for a couple of pints after the game then made my way back, thought there wasn't many people about, just put it down to coming away much later than normal after a game.  Only realised when I got to the station.  Turned around and had to head back to Seven Sisters and the queue was ridiculous.  Managed to get in from the other side but that gave me the right hump.

I watched the game and although agree with some of what you have said, I thought it was a performance full of naivety. Liverpool coordinated an excellent press using a group of youngsters that seemed to constantly have the back line rattled.

I think you were good value for your goal but you were never close to getting a hat-full.

To me it seems like RDZ is trying to get this group to 'run before they can walk' in terms of his system. The intricate play out from the back needs to come later, have a bit of humility and be pragmatic enough to know the limitations of the group currently. The best way to build confidence is getting some points on the board, silence the media pile on and build from there.

    This sums Spurs up.
They got 30m for who I felt was one of England's outstanding performers at the WC
Then they pay 100 million for Tonali, who I think is very good,  but really is a mid table Premier League player

The Spurs owners don't really know what they’re doing. They flash their money around like people who play Monopoly at Christmas and who get their arses spanked if they play a complex strategy game.
  • At least they managed a couple of goals today, that’s a positive. TNT Sports said it’s 5 wins out of 36 at home after today

After two seasons in a row being in a relegation fight, it’s a nightmare start finding themselves already in a relegation position. Pressure is going to be immense on manager and players now. They really needed to start the season well.

All their signings strike me as the exact opposite of what you'd want in a relegation scrap. They'll be fine ultimately but what a colossal waste of money they've spent

God only knows how we didn't score 1st half.

Keeper has an absolute blinder and got lucky with saving from Gray with the inside of his heel.

Had we been 3-4 in front by the time vdV clashed heads, went off for treatment and then they scored before he got back on, no one would have complained.

Thats without Mings pulling back Marmoush as last man which was ignored and then a blatant push in the box when a player is shooting in the box is now no longer a penalty.

You could see their heads visibly drop.

Spurs started the second half at walking pace.  Villa didn't and just casually passed it around Van Hecke , or turned him with ease.  2nd goal was against the run of play again and then Buendida scores his annual worldie against us.  Nothing going our way and not getting any rub of the green whatsoever.

First half we was very very good.  Second half we was absolute dogsh*t.  Utterly f*cked off.  Its going to be a long 3 and a bit weeks now.

The thing that would worry me about the likes of Savio and Marmoush is their bottle and work ethic.  I think they probably think, it’s all good, we’ve joined a team who have splashed the cash on individually good players, unaware of just how bad it’s been at Spurs the last few years

they strike me as the sort of players who will come and think their talent or supposed talent is enough

i think it’s a genuine thing for a lot of the big name players now.  When the going gets tough, have the forgotten the work ethic.  I watched Palmer last night against Brentford.  He had an okay game, but given he’s been a bit off the boil in general over the last season and a bit, missing out on an England call up, I don’t see that desire to fight.  It’s almost as if he and others like him know how good they are, and they think that alone is enough.  I also think it’s why teams like Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth have done so well.  They know they’re punching in terms of size and history, but they have a formula a set up and most importantly they scrap for it.  Even Arsenal today on Soccer Saturday, Merson said they went missing as soon as Brighton took hold of the game.  Man Utd been doing the same thing for years
  • They will be fine.. as will palace.. and Millwall .. and even us I reckon..

    That stadium has bad vibes.
Unscientific of course, but having now seen football at the old and new stadiums, the new one is a weird unauthentic AI kind of place, not only soulless but it felt almost purposely alienating catering for an audience rather than for passionate fans.

Well, we either will go down or we won't - there's only two different outcomes and one of those will happen.

When it comes to probability, that's as far as some people get.

Good job (for them) they're not bookies!
