Cardiff were sharp with quick passing and 3rd man running…we couldn’t deal with their movement…..Salech was a good target man and unlike Leaburn played one touch passes when passed to his feet…Moylan looked a very good pick up….just the sort of player we should have gone after…..Chappell and his scouting team get a D- from me
Unlike Leaburn, Salech has team mates near him to one touch pass the ball to when he receives it to his feet. Leaburn has to hold the ball up and wait for his team mates to arrive, which he did very well yesterday and has done all season

As a side note i thought the stewards were excellent, polite and even apologising for bag and body searches and at least that club were sensible with people bringing in back packs.

And special praise to the young steward in block 122 who made all those idiots who congregate on stairwells move.

A bit of an all-timer on here this evening. On the one hand it’s a shame there’s no upcoming game to put this one behind us but on the other hand I think some of you could really benefit from the three weeks off. I dread to think what another couple of bad results this month would do to people
You said yourself you didn't watch the game so don't really have a reason to be knocking people that sat through it.

I mean, I didn’t see it because I was at the women’s game. They lost 4-1 so I definitely did my time today. I’m not knocking anyone though, I’m just commenting what I’ve seen on the forum today. A new Jones thread, a Chapple out thread, people thanking the lord Ouma is only on loan and talking about bombing Alli out until he can be loaned away in January. It’s like a whole forum of yous this evening, and that’s a good a reason as any for a three week calm down.

NJ said we were signing quality players to improve us in the window. Not much evidence of that. The only outfield signing that has added anything and is fit enough to play is Mesik.

Cardiff were comfortable on the ball going forward causing our defence havoc and could have scored more. TC is the only player we have in that mould. Ali and Grant blow hot and cold.
Too many good attacking opportunities wasted by passing sideways and backwards with the keeper eventually hoofing the ball forward and we lose possession. Are our players not good enough, do they lack confidence or is it how they're coached?

We had a player on loan last season  who was comfortable on the ball going forward taking on defenders.  Probably could have signed him too.

Personally didn't think we were nearly as bad as people are making out.

We had good opportunities to score. They have have a good XG this season and they showed why. They're all willing to have a go - Which luckily we had Okonkwo or it'd have been more.

For me I'd have preferred we tested one of our own youth defenders than taking on one that everyone else thought would be the shit. Because he's just shit.
didn't Gough do well when he came in last season? he's out on loan I think

Seriously concerning that we aren't even trying. We don't threaten enough when it's still 0-0 and when we concede it's already game over. I'm really,  really concerned. The two key players are Chalobah and Koumetio and yet we won't get much out of them. Skipp, Ouma and Bindon should be ashamed of themselves. Yeah, someone like Docherty was technically crap, but at least he tried in every fucking game. Do you think Ouma or Skipp would have played through a torn groin to get us over the line last season? Not a fucking chance.
Less than 2 weeks ago you thought Skipp was amazing. Happy to see you cam see what I saw now.

When you base your whole plan on being more at it than your opponents you will always get games where it doesn’t work. I don’t think we won any second balls yesterday and they had so much more time in n the ball to pick a pass whereas we couldn’t string more than 2/3 together before being forced to go back to the keeper who then knocks it long giving possession back. We will nick points this season with 30% possession but not sure enough to be safe.

It was a good day for everyone to clearly identify which players are still a work in progress and some way from gracing the first team again soon.

if tackling and passing is something you’re clearly struggling with at the moment then the international break and the return of much better players from injury when the league resumes should give you plenty of time to practice away from the limelight where you can cost us points and set your reputation back. Obviously if you are one of those that’s actually been called up for international duty then good luck with that if you get on the pitch, you’ll need it.

We can't even blame the ref who had a decent game TBF and all the cards were justified. Possibly one more for Cardiff but we were lucky as many refs may have given that tug by Edwards in the box.
We had a free week of training at Sparrows lane with no mid week game so can't use that excuse that Professional footballers were tired after just 8 games of a 46 match marathon.

I always try to analyse the game without reverting to levels of excrement which is a favourite on CL so writing in the vernacular, I would say Elephant size dung !

Cardiff were excellent in their passing and movement and Cafc made Jack Moylan who scored 11 goals and 6 assists for Lincoln last season look like a Premier player.

Charlton were outplayed in every aspect of the game.
Arthur kept the score down as well a couple of sitters being missed.
It was 3 but it should've been 6.

The lesser known Willock* brother Chris gave McNamara a torrid time on the flank and the two bad mistakes a game by Bindon was always going to cost a goal and the 2nd goal when he was turned was poor. I said the first time I saw Ouma that surely Mwamba was ahead of him in the pecking order but NJ must see it different ?
No partnership worked any where for us and 3-1 doesn't do justice for Cardiff who pass and move and finished well on the day abetted by a terrible team performance by CAFC.

A terrible day at the office for Nathan, his coaches and the team; imagine that your place of work is on fire, that's how bad it was yet despite that we are still 8th after 8 games with Ramsay nearly fit and hopefully Billy back soon.

The biggest lost is Chalobah who in the First 3 league plus the cup game pulled the strings and we looked solid plus we scored goals in those 1st 4 matches.

Get fit soon Nathaniel as we look weak without you.

3 weeks of moaning ahead 🙉

*I was at an U21 game when Matthew played for man united and Chris and Joe played for Arsenal at the Emirates.
Freebie ticket and my 1st game at the Emirates.

It’s a team game and if your team has a player or players on the pitch that’s basically not doing their bit and/or ‘passing’ the ball to nobody or worse straight to an opposition player then it tends to overshadow and fuck up any positive play the rest of the team is doing.

Nathan eventually removed one such player in the second half yesterday (when in consensus I could hear was he should have stayed on the pitch in the first half let alone come out again at half time) but basically brought on someone that I overheard comment at the time of he’s replaced him with like for like.

  • I'd give Ouma time.

Genuinely what does Knibbs have to do to get a game?
I'm more worried about how shit he might be, if he manages to get on the pitch. Maybe it is Jones being the stubborn idiot that he can be... But there surely has to be a reason he's being overlooked, and for me the more "logical" answer has to be down to the fact that Harvey isn't performing at a level of what is required of him in training.
And the fact he's never got involved in any game he's played for us, other than some tap in goals.

Mind you he can't be worse than Alii or Ouma.

I have been analysing players every since I used to go to Avery hill park on a Sunday and watch games from 10 am to 1 pm before going home to have my roast dinner. Happy days being a kid with no responsibility. 😀
I saw 5 minutes of Mwamba and felt he was ready and yet when I saw 5 minutes of Ouma I felt he wasn't. That's in a match and not at Sparrows lane on a daily basis and NJ is the gaffer, not you or I.
My level was the Tandridge league not the professional game but I sometimes wonder if a player can be great in training but poor in front of a crowd ?
Ouma may end up being brilliant but he can't do the basics at the moment.

10 games is the yardstick and just like Millwall we are having good wins and bad defeats.

It's need repeating Chalobah makes most of our team play better judging by the first 4 matches when the injury proned talent Nathaniel linked play.

Ouma was the wrong sub. Should’ve been JRC.

Coventry and Skipp are far too similar to work as a CM pairing (Coventry offers a lot more than Skipp). It feels very similar to Cov and Doch last season with plenty of industry but a real lack of creativity.

Chalobah was always going to be a risk and now he's inevitably crocked (naively even I was surprised how soon that happened) we don’t really have anyone who can properly replace what he brings to the side. We have to sort this out in January otherwise this has the potential to be a long (and perhaps dangerous) season.

    Campbell had a good game.

Millwall v West Ham was far more entertaining.

2nd half QPR v PNE.....QPR pulled it back to 2-2 with 10 men and I was wishing we called knock the ball about like them.

Would have been 6-1 without the keeper making some good saves. At some point our owners will need to pay some decent money on players to stay in this league. Getting quality players on the cheap because they are always injured is not a sustainable strategy.
That's the problem, the owners obviously didn't want to splash out on transfer fees for quality. Getting decent players in in January will be impossible.
In a thread now closed, Large, today made a comment that he personally doesn't think the gaffer had been backed anywhere near enough in the summer transfer market, to which I responded that I totally agreed.

I wonder whether it might be worth re-viewing the latest " look at me " YouTube video from JR re the playing squad/latest acquistions & considering whether he had over egged the situation in terms of Nathan's input. The term " these are Nathan's players " when criticising performances should be used sparingly IMO.

Outlay, by the current owners, would appear to be a valid concern  both on & off the pitch, maybe more than we had anticipated.

Could the saying "quantity rather than quality" be applicable once the window had closed - partly due to the injuries in the Cup match ?
What was the thread that has been closed Fanny ?

Because they’re not as good as they’re made out to be .
Wait till they leave and then you’ll hear the truth from NJ , Kaminski a prime example .
He’s just playing a game with the sound bites he says and that’s what all managers do .

We look a lot better with Chalobah in the team because he gets the ball and tries to get us playing forward. It's criminal we didn't sign an attack minded CM in the summer who can play week in week out. We're now relying on Chalobah getting back to fitness and then staying fit, or Mwamba stepping up and cementing a place in the team. Skipp and Coventry are similar players, they don't compliment each other unless your aim is to dig in and protect a lead.

Somehow failing to improve the midfield from last season is very impressive. That midfield 5 besides TC really don’t look like anything special. Somehow supplying less service to Leaburn than we did last season

I got pelters on the West Brom match thread when we went 1-0 down during a poor performance for suggesting that, once again, a good August could be followed by a run of poor form and that teams were starting to work us out. And that’s basically what’s happened.

We snatched a draw in that game, but since then it’s been a mirror image of last season. Even in the games we won, I don’t think we ever dominated in the way Cardiff did yesterday. I’m honestly not sure we’re capable of dominating a game like that either.

Injuries obviously haven’t helped, but we also need to build a squad that’s more resilient to them. You can’t have the whole team fall apart every time we lose players.

It's clear the league has sussed our flaws. We have a lack of ability on the ball which means we cough up possession in dangerous areas when put under pressure and our own ineffective press constantly leaves our midfield and defence dangerously exposed. Jones has 3 weeks to figure out solutions, if he doesn't we're in big trouble this season.

I don’t think we are and I don’t think we’re trying to. Even in L1 we weren’t a footballing side in the way that Cardiff are. There isn’t anything wrong with that as such but it does put things on a knife edge somewhat

    1. You cannot play 424 away in this league. We had 2 wingers and 2 strikers, not interested in numbers like 4231 and that nonsense, it was 424 and they passed round us with ease.
    2. Skip is just Docherty with a pricier backstory but i'm not having the nonsense about his pedigree and his skill - he's a backwards retain possession merchant the same as Doc with nothing much else to his game.
    3, Binden is a liability
    4. Macnamara is very limited when he has time on the ball.
    5. Alli looked out of his depth.

We don't have a midfield. We play with 6 defenders and 4 attackers on the break. The players coming back from injury will help but they won't make much of an impact in being able to play any football through midfield. A repeat of last season on the cards unfortunately. Cardiff disproving all this ' you have to build over years and years in the championship' to be able to compete guff - if they had some better players up top they'd probably be top by now.

Going to catch up with the thread now. Without reading posts to sway my views.

    Positives 👍🏻

    - New ground tick
    - Lovely pub outside, lovely ground

    Negatives 👎🏻

    - Dreadful performance
    - No desire to comeback
    - Lack of attacking skill (bar TC)
    - Fully available squad, no excuse
    - Ouma & Bindon look rubbish
    - We lost what I believe may be an important game down the line.
