Rest of it I agree/can see why you think it but we don't have close to a fully available squad. There are 3 pretty nailed on starters missingBraziliance said:Going to catch up with the thread now. Without reading posts to sway my views.

- Ouma & Bindon look rubbish
- We lost what I believe may be an important game down the line.10 -
You must be on about Godden, Koumetio and Chalobah.fenaddick said:

- We lost what I believe may be an important game down the line.
Godden - injury prone currently and is past his prime. We shouldn't be relying on him, he should be a squad player two seasons into the Championship.
Chalobah - Has played a grand total of 225 Championship minutes for us. We knew he was injury prone before signing him, he shouldn't be relied upon.
Koumetio - see above but even less with 180 Championship minutes.
I won't deny that we are better with them than without, but it would be naive of the club to rely on them as first team starters as all signs pointed to them not being able to play 40+ games, especially Chalobah.
I just don't want to hear excuses about the strength of this squad when we had a chance to address it and got completely outplayed by a team who didn't spend even half of what we did in our first season up, have the nucleus of their League one squad and have a manager who has never managed at this level before compared to our manager who has managed over 100 and must be nearing 200.
Yesterday was a tactical disaster class. No fight, no leadership, no skill, no commitment. That result is on the management, staff and players. Let's hope they can get their act together in 3 weeks for Bristol City at home.16 -
Not Godden. A combo of Edwards/Ramsay is the third for me. Initially it looked hard for Ramsay to come in immediately but Danny Mac has gone off the boil recently.Braziliance said:

I agree you can’t rely on injury prone players but that still doesn’t make us “full strength” which is all I was saying really.5 -
Pathetic but atleast they tried nah0

Trouble is none of them can play at 10 or 7, so we only have half an effective front 4.fenaddick said:

Early doors but I don't think Edwards will improve us much on Mesik (personally think Mesik should play LCB and Edwards should start Left back for now) I don't think Ramsay had the best season last season tbh mate, but fair enough.fenaddick said:

I see your point, but I just don't believe those players produce a total difference in football style. We are showing shades of last season already.
The table doesn't lie, but the stats are reading for a bleak future. I hope they can sort it out, as with the dwindling attendances, poor matchday experience services wise and with us not spending much money with the ownership rumours circulating, people will get grumpy quick.
My main issue is, I can't see us ever playing like Cardiff and QPR did to us. It's back to exactly as I said last season. When you win with Nathan Jones the high is unreal as it's so unexpected (Boro, Ipswich, West Ham away) but when you lose it feels like you've been kicked in the dick for 90 minutes.

Looking back at their first 2 goals. When was the last time we.........
1) managed to drag the defender out, let the ball run through to a team mare, who then lays it off to the the player running onto with yards of space to to stick it in the corner of the net.
2) have a striker 6 yards out with his back to goal and a defender behind him - then spin him so that he has a yard of space to thump the ball into the net.
So simple yet we don't get the chance to do any of this. Leaburn had not had anything like the chance Salech had yesterday. 8 games in & we hardly create a chance for our strikers to convert.
We rely on half chances and snatched shots. No wonder we are joint bottom for goals scored. I believe Cardiff had more shots at goal yesterday than we have had all season.
Until this changes we are going to continue to struggle to score and over time will fall down the table.

Don’t buy this. Mesik has adapted well, Collins last season too. Ouma has looked like a fish out of water in comparison.MuttleyCAFC said:Ouma can improve but he needs to adapt to the English game. Ideally you'd blood him in a commanding midfield and it will be easier but that isn't our midfield. The lad will also be lacking in confidence after the Stoke game. He did look massively behind the pace of the game though and that is a fact.0 -

Been saying it all season, Leaburn doesn’t play anywhere near close enough to the goal, it’s great saying he is turning into a really good no.9, but having battles 30yards out isn’t doing us or him any good. He needs to add goals to his game, that’s not happening whilst having scuffles/ holding up play and having no shots because he is doing his work on the wrong part of the pitch. Salech was the example of that yesterday, was never far away from the 18yrd box, our midfield is yet again after a couple of seasons are giving our strikers nothing. If that doesn’t change we are in for another edgy season. Milan ripped us a new one yesterday, I’d never heard of him, really do now!!, other clubs can find these type of players, WTF are we doing?golfaddick said:Looking back at their first 2 goals. Just saying you can't use a lack of squad options as an excuse as Godden played under 300 minutes of Championship football last season and the two new players signed are injury prone, they could never have been options over 40+ games.3 -
Yh but is that on Leaburn not playing in the 18 yard box or because his teammates don’t give him the option I think it’s rhe latter.Sword65pf said:

Until this changes we are going to continue to struggle to score and over time will fall down the table.Look at yesterday Willock and Moylan every time they get the ball they actively drive through the mid of the pitch. We have no one close to Leaburn to allow him to push on futher so he has to drop deep to get involved. TC is our only other dangerous attacker and he wants to hug the touch line and go 1v1 opposed to supporting zlwaburn1 -
You've summed things up nicely, mate. Nathan Jones has given us some fabulous memories. If you're a regular away traveller then you've had delirium on a fair few occasions under him; Orient, Sheffield Utd, both last minute bedlam. Ipswich delight. Ultimate smash and grab at Boro. West Ham only a few weeks ago went straight into my top five away games.Braziliance said:

Yesterday was a tough watch for sure but I still enjoyed my day out. Following Charlton is my hobby, my passion, my favourite way to spend my free time. Sometimes we get served up dross but I can take it when it's at Champo level. I was sick of League One (we all were, I know) and Jones remains the fella to keep us away from a return.
I find it far easier to compartmentalise Charlton when I have been at the game. It gets straight out of my system as I can see it unfolding before my eyes. I'll be on the website tomorrow morning for Watford and Burnley tickets. Can't wait.5 -
Spot on mate !golfaddick said:Looking back at their first 2 goals.
Until this changes we are going to continue to struggle to score and over time will fall down the table.4 -
You are the 2nd person to have misinterpreted my post, please read again and you will see I’m not putting it on Leaburn, maybe get past the poster😂Crispywood said:
Yh but is that on Leaburn not playing in the 18 yard box or because his teammates don’t give him the option I think it’s rhe latter.Sword65pf said:
Until this changes we are going to continue to struggle to score and over time will fall down the table.Look at yesterday Willock and Moylan every time they get the ball they actively drive through the mid of the pitch. We have no one close to Leaburn to allow him to push on futher so he has to drop deep to get involved. TC is our only other dangerous attacker and he wants to hug the touch line and go 1v1 opposed to supporting zlwaburn0 -
I get work rate is important and correct me if I’m wrong but should Grant, Leaburn and Campbell be expected to do as much defensive work as they do?2

The tactics take the choice away from them.aki2798 said:I get work rate is important and correct me if I’m wrong but should Grant, Leaburn and Campbell be expected to do as much defensive work as they do?5 -
Our formation last year also had a 10. And the guy in it was our top scorer and one of our best playersDDOUBLEE said:
Unacceptable. We've moved to a formation with a 10, and yet failed to sign a 10 and completely alienated the two we already have. Jones, Chapple, Rodwell, What on earth were you doing?Macronate said:Against a team that hadn’t won in the league this season:

Last year the responsibility of our 10 was to gather the 2nd balls from strikers or opposition CB’s in the final 3rd after a long ball, run with the ball and shoot.PeaksAndValleys said:

This year the responsibility of our 10 is to drop deeper receive the ball supply quality passes out to the wing and play off the striker who aims to retain possession holding up the ball opposed to flicking the ball on.The same position but the jobs are completely different and every single fan knew Carey and Knibbs aren’t the type of CAM’s who can play with the ball in possession5
