True this, weren’t they supposed to have announced the managers sentence for spygate last Friday, I guess something else came up…

Seems to be a bit of a pattern developing, club seems to be doing extremely well, turns out they cheated, City, Southampton, any others?

Stoke City are the one I would look at........ that Bet365 Stadium 'sponsorship'.......... no way they have the revenue organically to support their spend this summer.
Stoke was the first club that came to mind for me too. They should be in trouble as well.

    Crystal Palace.
  • Surely this is going to involve criminal charges. People are going to be doing jail time for this - it is financial fraud / falsification of accounts at an unprecedented level.
I call you right on this.

People beginning to break ranks this morning calling for a criminal investigation into their financial conduct.

And the CEO is sounding like Comical Ali ( older readers will get this)

Who are they going to charge?

    Mansour? No.
    Mubarak? No.
Simon Pearce? Unlikely as he works closely with the UAE government, so he'd be protected.
Soriano? Very possible as CEO but would they make him carry the can for it all?

  • Man City 114(1 charge found not guilty) against Chelsea's 74.

Different charges but rules broken by both clubs on an industrial scale over several years.

Chelsea self reported as the offences occured under a previous owner and received a 10 million fine.

Man City just keep denying any wrong doing and will no doubt get Lawyers to say they exploited loop holes in the system and no cheating occurred!

What a humongous mess and I can imagine any football agent who has been banned by the Premier league telling tales on other clubs.

    The Premier League could implode.

I have said on here before I think, I had a mate who was an agent (now sadly passed).  He told a tale of an ex PL team who secured the signing of one of his players through a large payment to an off shore bank account.

My friend wasn't party to the discussions but when the player told him he stopped representing him as he didn't want any involvement in it.

Absolutely happens (or at least happened) all over the place.

To a lesser extent even when you go further down the leagues.

  • There is a lot of noise from a lot of quarters at the moment, but I think the loudest one will be the can that's kicked down the road.

I think the sporting punishment will be a big points deduction which might land them in the champ for one year, but that'll be a bit like Juve a few years back where they will just waltz the league and return like nothings happened....It's not really that much of a setback considering how far cheating has got them. Most clubs will take 7 league titles and a CL for the sake of one season out of the PL.

The huge rabbit hole is going to be all the legal claims from other clubs. The ones who have missed out on prize money / champions league qualification / got relegated etc etc. You could even have smaller clubs done the pyramid claiming for transfer fee add ons that were never paid because of it. The amount of clubs who will be launching action against Citeh will be into the dozens.

    Hope it ******* bankrupts them

Had Man City come clean and didn’t drag the process on, it would’ve been sorted before the IFR had been established.

Is one year in the championship enough of a punishment? When they’ve been at it for years.

Andy Burnham has said he would be "really concerned" if Manchester City's owners decide to sell up after the club was found guilty of Premier League financial rule breaches.

The prime minister said the situation was "contested by Manchester City" and he praised the club's owners since 2008 - led by Sheikh Mansour, United Arab Emirates deputy prime minister and royal family member - for investing in Manchester.

I’ve never really minded City as a club, and even with the investment it at least brought another challenger into the top end of the Prem.  But after today’s verdict, throw the book at them.  I wonder how much pressure the owners will start to put on the UK government.  I wouldn’t be surprised if their tentacles are wrapped around lots of trade, investments etc.

Agree with @MarcusH26, hope the EPL tell the owners they can’t come anywhere near English football ever again, cheating scum
If they fail with the appeal (as i expect they will), i think they'll take it all the way to the high court and try to argue the commission wasn't impartial and they didn't get a fair trial.

If everything fails then i don't see how the owners could continue. You can't be found guilty of this over such a long period and then carry on. I'd expect they'll be forced to sell the club. As for what state the club will be in and what division it will be in, is anyones guess.
I haven't read the rules in detail and I'm not a lawyer. However, I have been told by a lawyer that they can't appeal through the courts. Their only right of appeal is back to the PL commission. This is written in the PL rules. This where it is different from the case they had with UEFA, where this rule wasn't there which would have left that door open.

It is is also worth noting that the PL and EFL are different entities. If the PL kick them out they can't force the EFL to do anything eg which division to put them in or if any sanctions are to apply while they are in the EFL.

Points deductions, transfer embargos  and huge fines are all within the PL power. Expulsion may be harder imo, but the points deduction could guarantee relegation. Players will be off but I bet City will have been very clever with the players contracts.

Not sure about the owners on this. Again important to remember the charges are against Man City FC as a company, not the owners

A least the finger is being pointed at the board, If it was Utd under the cosh the tea ladies would have a lot to answer for.

Can't help but wonder how much of Guardiola's total pay package was illicit? Guess we'll never know unless someone writes a book at some point?

If this all ends up with the PL giving them a large fine but no actual painful punishment, but then the IFR clobber them on the grounds that the offences weren't known about until after the IFR had been set up, it's going to take me several years to stop laughing.
