Find some of the low scores on the rating thread just really odd

Panic acquisition when it was clear we wasn’t going to see Chalobah until after Christmas I suspect.6
-
Was excellent today alongside Coventry they are forming a very good pairing .. made lot of good tackles today in and around our box ..15
-
Watching him it looks like he thinks he’s faster than he is. A couple of times he was asking for balls to be played in front of him which he was no way near reaching2

very easily pleased aren’t you?RonnieMoore said:Was excellent today alongside Coventry they are forming a very good pairing .. made lot of good tackles today in and around our box ..6 -
He’s a 6 out of 10 player. Does nothing wrong but nothing to warm the cockles10

Yes agree with this. Both him and Coventry need a Chalobah type next to them to be more effective. But I don’t see them being a good pair long term, which is a worry because I think that’s what we are going to get.shirty5 said:He’s a 6 out of 10 player. To use an old sailor's expression, I think he might be a Jonah.
(That's also gonna be my new nickname for him).

This is probably fair. Today he was a 4 or 5 though imo. Dreadful. Went hiding from the ball on a couple of occasions.1 -
I truly believe that is one of the worse midfield pivots in the league. Great they offer you running and the basics and slowing the tempo of the game when needed but there is zero pace strength passing ball progression ability to play on the half turn or in tight areas.RonnieMoore said:Was excellent today alongside Coventry they are forming a very good pairing .. made lot of good tackles today in and around our box ..They would look better next to someone with the complete opposite traits but not with each other so many key skills that they don’t offer when combined7 -
It’s the same problem we had with Cov and dobCrispywood said:

Is good technically but is very slow and his demeanour isn’t very all action like we need. Can see why in a bad team like Leicester he’d be a lightning rod for criticism.0
-
He drops deep, picks up ball from Jones then passes it to either full backs, really exciting movement ☹️4
-
He's like a lot of his colleagues, bang average.1
-
He adds nothing to the team0

This is basically the key to our season. Skipp or Cov are serviceable players at this level but together, and without a Chalobah type player, it’s not a great situation for us.Sword65pf said:

Playing him and Coventry in the same side isnt great, both do similar jobs and neither like going over the halfway line.
Both lack creativity, Skipp hasn't been bad but not sure getting rid of Docherty and replacing with Skipp and Ouma was brilliant business1 -
Skipp isn’t a replacement for Doc, we decided to move on from Doc and then Chalobah got injured ( we didn’t see that coming!!, then gambled on Ouma, none of these scenarios are working out.BigRedEvil said:Playing him and Coventry in the same side isnt great, both do similar jobs and neither like going over the halfway line.

Think it’s more we haven’t won a game since Chalobah got injured. Not only a brilliant player but elevates everyone around him as wellIR94 said:haven't won a game since he joined8 -
In the words of my not-quite-teenage daughter, “I mean, I guess it’s fine” (no one can damn with feint praise quite like a pubescent girl who thinks she’s better than your shit).Or, to borrow a nickname from
the past, he’s a bit Captain Cleanshorts.
That’s maybe a bit harsh, he does get stuck in a bit more than Matt Holland used to, but (having never seen him play before) I thought from the description of his time at Spurs we’d be getting kind of George Dobson who could play a bit more. Most independent observers seemed to rate him a good signing for us too. However, I find I’m not really seeing what he offers so far.He does run around, although I’m not sure it’s always with great purpose or in the right direction, and he’s better technically than Doc was. However, apart from that one lovely through ball to TC vs QPR for the “offside”, his better passing isn’t particularly helping us gain more control of games and I think we’ve lost something defensively because I don’t think he’s as aggressive, or positionally aware as Doc.
That’s not to say I think we should have kept Doc, but Coventry has improved this year, imo, yet the 2026 midfield of Skipp and Cov looks no better than 2025 Cov and Doc.
It’s not helped, of course, that we are trying to play a system in which the no. 10 is probably that most pivotal position but without a quality and natural fit for that role. That probably also needs to be addressed with a bit of back to basics thinking tactically to find the best balance with the squad available.
Either way, certainly, Chalobah comes straight back in as soon as fit, and for my money that should be with Coventry who has been better than Skipp.
I do wonder if him once being bought for £20 million means I’m judging him a bit harshly, but I all I can say if he was ever truly worth that the his form has gone off a cliff.1 -
For those that like these sorts or things. Larger sample size for Doc, but not a huge amount between them, per 90, statistically although quite a contrast bet their respective heat maps. So far, at least.

Better hope he can find a higher top speed0

I don’t think Skipp is the problem, I don’t think Coventry is the problem. But Skipp and Coventry is the problem. And we don’t have a solution without Chalobah being fit
Actually think Skipp has looked quite good so far but he’s too similar to Coventry so it just doesn’t work8 -
It’s why I think, if we genuinely have the ~£4M or £5M intended for JRS available, I’d rather spend it on a more-often-fit-Chalobah-type player. I genuinely think that would be better for us than upgrading in other (admittedly lacking) positions.Crispywood said:

The truth is Skipp and Coventry are Foley and Crofts 2.0.3

I don’t mind Skipp but don’t see how he’s much of an upgrade on either Dobbo or Doc. I’m just relieved we didn’t pay £20M for him!0
