It is beyond words wtf we are continually bringing in players with a recent history of injuries.
In the long term it will be better to buy players who are fit and CAN PLAY FOOTBALL.

But the ones we can afford aren’t that good, as shown by none of last seasons purchases starting at the weekend

We can only afford players that are fit but can’t play football, or players that aren’t fit but can play football. That is our problem

For whatever reasons the club (owners and management) have managed to snooker themselves with the players we have, there doesn't seem to be one good complete team in "almost" any combination of players.

Which doesn't leave much once some are injured.

oh balls, I was hoping it was and any day now they were gonna start trying.

Digressing a bit but agree with the last few posts re: our recruitment.  Mesik and Koumetio good buys, McNamara and Grant on paper should add something to the team over the course of the season.

Alli is frustrating as we’ve spent 1.5m on him and given him a 4 year deal.  It looks like it’s right out of the Rob Apter/Tanto playbook from last season that has backfired on us.  All due respect to him, I see nothing that warranted handing him a 4 year deal at his age, with his career to date.  It very much feels like Phil Chapel having ran out of ideas or avenues to explore and Alli is his version of Jonathan Leko under Gallen.  I expect we’ll be looking to move him on next summer if we’re still in the Championship, or worst still, hoping he can do a job in league one if we go down.

The fundamental screw up was not getting a suitable player in central midfield to sit alongside Coventry or another.  Ouma has been a massive gamble, and now we’re praying on Chalobah

Poor planning and execution and this will be the spot that screws us imo.  Needs rectifying in Jan, but I’m at a loss as to what a suitable alternative is given it’s the Jan window

Hopefully we’ve managed to get some points on the board by then
good post - I'm nowhere near as down on Alli as many are, I think there's a player in there and we've definitely seen signs of it
Agree, and I just think it's not only unreasonable, but also unhelpful to judge a player, especially a winger, when the team as a whole is playing so poorly, and with so little attacking intent.
A winger needs to be seeing plenty of the ball, preferably with some space in which to operate. They are not going to beat their fullback 100% of the time, and their every cross isn't going to produce a goal.
Start playing some football, and we might actually start seeing the best of the likes of Alli, Carey, Leaburn etc.

I look at Oxford who spent years and years building a nice footballing side in League One and then had to abandon it at this level. If you try to play an open game against decent Championship sides, they are miles better at it and take you apart.

I imagine every club when they get a player with an injury record feels they will be the ones to sort them out.
Only played 10 games last year? No problem, we will get 25 out of him by doing XYZ.

Unfortunately the body is a complex thing, you could play 10 games with no issue or feel better than you ever have and come off after 10 minutes.

No rhyme or reason to it.

Pompey as well. Played brilliant football to win league 1, came up to the championship and struggled until they abandoned that style and went more direct to stay up

The challenge we are facing is progressing away from that style to playing more football. And without spending the required money on upgrading your squad it’s very difficult to do

To all the people who want Jones to stay. What would make you change your mind? We have not won in the last eight games. Would you keep him for the Season? If things don’t improve in the next 5 to 10 games, would you then replace him?
We cannot get relegated and play our football in League 1 next season. The players look really short of confidence and maybe a new manager would give us a bounce. I get it that the owners have not stumped up enough money to get us challenging for the playoffs. But I truly believe that a Dave Challinor, Scott Parker would get more out of these players. Jones started off with 4-2-3-1 now he has reverted to the formation that he used last Season.
i think that if we stay with Jones we will get relegated.
When we’re either in the relegation zone not too big of a gap but a fair gap off safety.

Or if the players turn him because besides Saturday and Cardiff (Stoke I put down to circumstances) I haven’t exactly thought we’ve been out battled or sat there thinking they’re not putting in the effort.

Jones already shown he can do what Challinor can’t in the big situations and Parker has never performed without having the best players in the league.

We know there’s a couple million in the bank, we know the 3-4 key areas which are issues, we should have the ability to bin off some deadwood in Jan, Jones proved fans wrong after Crawley, Leyton Orient, Millwall im not going to get dragged into thinking he can’t do it again

If we give Jones a decent attacking number 10 and a decent right winger in January,  I will expect to see a huge improvement in how we perform and with our results.
If we get these players and show no sign of either then I'd probably want him gone

Agreed. In part because I struggle to see the outs that make it happen. We can safely assume Ouma will be gone but we'll need to sign another 6/8 as we're thin on the ground. What two players leave for us to sign a RW and a 10?

    Neither do I.
That's why I think our current performances are on the owners more than Jones because we never got our main targets over the line in the summer and i doubt we will in January

I think a few have probably managed to put themselves in the get rid/ loan out category, it’s more that I don’t think for one the owners have the appetite, two the jan window isn’t the greatest time to be signing the quality we need and the owners certainly wouldn’t be forcing other clubs hands with offers to good to turn down. We gucked ourselves with the summer transfer business and we are looking like suffering a very long hangover due to it.

I agree I just don't see where the outs are and that's assuming Apter is deregistered for March.

Can't see anyone else that's obviously going to leave really.

Indeed!, another self imposed issue. I much prefer to be positive but at the moment I’m really fearing the worst. The fact we are conceding so regularly is alarming as that is what we have been successful with. We’ve never really looked good attacking wise under NJ, but done enough. We are so unbalanced and out of touch.

Not sure I want him gone but we need to offer more attacking threat.

Its getting back to the days when the Pigeon's could sit in the oppo goal area each half

That I agree with. If we’d signed Holsgrove and Rak-Sakyi this summer and turned in these performances and results then even I’d be nearing Jones out territory

Whether he actually gets what he wants in January is another question though

I think some will be more willing to leave in January than they were in the summer, now that they’ve seen the reality of their playing time

    Ouma
    Apter
    Knibbs/Costello

    To bring in:
    CM
    RW
    CAM

Even if we only got 2 out so only a winger and one of the midfielders in that would make a huge difference to our team.

Plenty. Success is relative. Curbishley and Bowyer just two examples at our own club.

Knibbs and JRC I'd completely forgotten to consider and I pretty much doubt we'll ever see Ouma again.

Surely JRC will be banging Nathan's door down for playing time , could be a top end L1 loan on the table?
