Wasnt going to say it but I will, from where I was sitting Elliot was in a poor starting position for the goal and went down slowly.
    What have you done!?

they said in commentary he was too central for the shot, just hope it's something Ben Roberts notes and drums out of him

Right, I'm not looking at this thread again for at least 24 hours, as Henry will be on it soon. I'm sure he's already read this & is trying to hold fire   :-)

I look forward to the day when Clem DOESN'T blame Robbie for a goal conceded while he's on the pitch.

It will be a long wait.

  • Very disappointed, defence looked worse than last year, when Bover went off little movement, nobody wanted ball. Kept passing back to Robbie, ping over halfway, possession to them. Little threat up top, I think Benno only got his chance because their impressive no 6 didn't come back for 2nd half.

    Plusses. BWP, Morrison, Green, Bover.

Oh dear , just got home and heard the score , i know people are saying friendlies are 'meaningless' but i'd expect to beat Aldershot?

Pleased that Benno is off and running though.

I just hope that Chris Powell has a plan B and knows where to find a couple of strikers - at this rate we will be worse off than last year up front......and i didn't think that would be possibe.

    meh
  • Maybe it will sharpen Chris's search for a decent striker or two who knows where the back of the net is.

  • Please don't tell me that people are honestly going to be reading way to much into a flipping friendly, some of you need to understand the meaning of pre season friendly,

I'm pleased your not bothered about a 1-1 draw , i know its a meaningless friendly and early days , but you can deny we don't have adequate firepower up front , i'm far to awake to go to sleep now , thought i'd stay up and annoy you! :)

Two Saturdays before season starts in earnest, four friendlies down, very little structure to our play. No penetration. It's hard to find much positive apart from a few individual sparks.
  • I need to cut Powelly some slack i know , he's barely unloaded his suitcase from the Spain trip , but we do need to step up our search in the next week or so for some decent players up front imo ( As well as other area's).

A decent workout. These are friendlies and are focussed on match fitness development primarily, but some of the play from Hollands and Green in particular gave grounds for optimism. Defence could have been better, but let's iron out the issues in these games.

I think it's time Powell goes, 1-1 against aldershot in a friendly what a joke. ;)

Seriously anyone getting worried needs to put there head in a bucket... Would like to see bover this year in the first team.. We need a new right back, striker, and I think a centre half with a bit of pace.

On a brighter note Elliot seems to be growing more and more popular...

Crikey. Just the other day after beating championship Bristol we were a force and the positivity was flowing through all of us. Talk of winning the league and the jpt. Now after a 1-1 draw were struggling to find positives.

    Funny old game
  • Erm yeah , i was quite calm a few days ago , all gone to pot now i've knocked Pepsi Max on the head of course , complete bag of nerves! not going to try weed or fags though! ;)

Was going to post something similar. Amazing really the difference in reaction after beating Bristol City 2-1 in a close game compared to drawing 1-1 with Aldershot.

Have faith in Powell but not Dyer
  • Guys sorry if i come across as a merchant of doom , i just thought we might tonk this lot thats all, i know it really doesn't matter too much but i would love us to sign the next CMS and see us shoot up the divisions.
  • Have faith in Powell but not Dyer
Why does everyone say that? is it just because Dyer wasn't a legend as a player at Charlton?

Totally with you but one thing you can guarantee, whatever the result, Henry will be having a swipe at one poster or another.
  • If we had lost 2-0 against Welling you can bet your bottom dollar people would be moaning like Billy O on here (who ever he is) , i expected a few more goals tonight , didn't happen , move onto Saturday , when i'm expecting a flood (A heavy downpour that is) rather than a masacre of goals.

It's easy, simple, and it makes sense. But if it makes you happy I'll review my stance on dyer until mid season.

    Say no more.
  • Cray your obviously not convinced by Dyer , and i have quite a few doubts as well, but Mervyn Day didn't exactly endear himself to the Charlton fans either?

Do you not think our new board would suss him out pretty quick if he wasn't up to it?

So every time we play a league 2 side we should beat them? Look at it in those terms and you'll see how unrealistic that expectation is. Football isn't as simple as that- being in a higher league will never guarantee victory.
  • I can't believe i'm getting slaughtered for expressing a different opinion , if you always aim low , where are you going to finish?

I can understand the players have been away from home for a week , need time to get back into it , but why not play more of the youth team players and give them a chance?
