Believe Oxford have Indonesian investors , their record signing in January was an Indonesian international striker from Holland.
Sounds like Roland. Apart from the Indonesian bit.
They are far smarter than Roland. My lad’s girlfriend’s family are all Oxford fans. The lad is a prospect but the benefits of his signing were immediate - the U’s social following and replica shirt sales went through the roof quickly. Indonesia have 280m+ population vs UK’s 65m+ and Premier League and British football is hugely poplar in the country. Smart money spinner…
We thought that with Zeng Zi, but then they sold millions of snide shirts in China!

Not sure what they'll get out of this. Southeast Asian teams are not going to be the strongest opposition.

  • Has anybody managed to get any information from the club regarding the Slovenia fixture?

I assume it's in Kranjska Gora like last year, but why is it 'behind closed doors' when it wasn't last year?

Also, if it is there, there's absolutely nothing to stop people from watching the game from the other side of the fence.

Surprised we arent testing ourselves against at least one side of similar or higher ilk. even a team from abroad.

That is still a possibility as one game left to announce.

But it would seem better to have at least game v a team from the same or higher level.
  • Im in Florida for the Southend game although friendlies are 😴 so not too fussed
  • Strength of the opposition isn't great but in Jones we trust.
  • Possibly the shitest set of friendlies I can ever recall.

So glad the championship fixtures are released on Thurs to give us something to look forward to.
The worst thing about it is that we played at four of those five grounds last season, one of which we played at twice!

I've also already been to Grosvenor Vale as well as every ground in The Championship, so I'm relying on the League Cup or FA Cup for new grounds this season.
  • Shame we can’t play Brentford away.

Still enough time between Cambridge and Southend match to arrange midweek away friendly close by.

HNK are that team. They beat both Dynamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split last season in the league. Zagreb beat Milan, drew with Monaco and Celtic etc in the Champs league - so we can expect a tough game from a technically gifted oppo.

Even a B.C.D game against Brentford or Fulham at a training ground would help (similar to the Palace game recently)
  • You need a situation for the team to get use to fans in numbers even if 4,500 thousand.
Away it is midweek between Cambridge and Southend.

I’m still recovering from the Tv footage of last season trip to Slovenia, still seeing stripey lines in front of my eyes, think I’m turning into a stripey Nigel!

Yes, that's a weird final fixture. For the final game you'd normally want a decent footballing test, as by that stage you should be fairly fit.

Normally we'd be at home against a better team.  With us presumably not wanting to play at The Valley,  maybe we've struggled to get decent opposition

League one and two and Scottish league opening weekend then. We won’t play another Championship team in a PSF, so only option is Prem (unlikely) or someone from abroad (not really viable when we only want to play away) - so I can see how this fixture has happened.

I would hope there’s a tougher game in the final one though.

Anyone know why the Championship is kicking off a week later? Is it because of the international tournaments?

Am I the only one who doesn't really care who we play? As long as NJ is happy with the preparation his team gets then I am too, I don't need us to play big name clubs in a fixture that doesn't matter.
Pre season used to be a great opportunity to go to a country/ ground we haven’t been to with Charlton and have a good old drink!  Recall trips to Holland (twice), Ireland, Scotland, even China ! Or mini tours of south west etc. Nothing if interest here…

We’re going under the radar for this pre-season so the other Championship clubs won’t be able to tell how good/shit (delete as appropriate) we are before the season starts

Maybe one off game might happen.

Even Nathan knows Southend is no test.
  • When do our players report back for pre season training?
