  • Recently, the Welling 'friendly' has resulted in injuries to some of our top players. Tell Welling to go kick some other team round the park this close season

Surprised we arent testing ourselves against at least one side of similar or higher ilk. even a team from abroad.
That is still a possibility as one game left to announce.

But it would seem better to have at least game v a team from the same or higher level.
    At the Valley ideally

Already announced by the club we have no home game
  • If the pitch is the real reason for no game I wonder if we've asked for the first game to be away?

That would be a bit rich wouldn’t it given we delayed starting the works until after the corporate hires.

But then again if you don’t ask you don’t get I suppose.

I do seem remember an article in recent years citing how complex fixture planing is though with multiple requests like that coupled with other constraints on local teams playing at different times for policing purposes and any number of other constraints. So no idea if that would be entertained.

Personally start away finish at home feels best regardless of rationale.

Meanwhile Oxford are playing a tournament in Indonesia

I think they’ll get a surprise. The public in Java are absolutely football mad. The away support I saw when I lived there back in 2002 was often travelling for 10-12 hours standing up in the back of a truck. The home matches (Arema in Malang) were packed out with people climbing up trees and getting on the roof to get a view of the match. The fans in Bandung will love to be hosting a team from The Championship, and I wouldn’t be surprised if TVs across the country get crowds.

Btw, when I was there my school got a big screen in the street for Charlton  v Middlesbrough.  That was a surreal experience for me.

Edit: Just found that Oxford are away to Arema on 10th July. They now have a new stadium  rather than the old one that I went to.

Sounds like a Millwall away game.

  • Unusual to play at a neutral location, but good to get some better quality opposition.

Other than EFL Trophy games, we've not played at Colchester since the FA Cup defeat
  • Glad we're playing someone at the same level, will be good to see how we match up by then

If I can remember rightly Ipswich U21's will be playing at Colchesters ground now. There was a social media post by Colchester the other day stating despite their rivalry they will be doing it.
  • I remember a PSF at Colchester a few years back (2018 ?) and parking onsite was £6 !!

The Ipswich women's team will be playing there too.

Due to the ongoing conflict in Suffolk they have to play all their games at neutral locations.
