Was given the heads up by BDL and Sis to come back on here to see this news. Truly gutted to find out about Malc’s situation and my thoughts are with him, his friends and his family. Malc is a top, top bloke who I got chatting to when he began transcribing mine and Greg’s commentaries for the forum match threads. He sent me many messages of support when we were getting some stick from certain quarters about what we did and it meant a huge amount then as it still does now. We also chatted about some shared destinations across the world, notably the same place in China, which was surreal. Malc, the last time we spoke, we promised to catch up during the season for a pint and I’m devastated to think that it now won’t happen. Thank you mate, for everything. T.C.E, safe travels and I hope you get to speak with RM.
Such sad news. I hope RM knows what an inspiration he is to so many people on this site. Thoughts with RM and his family, and you too, TCE. Safe journey.
Angie is in good spirits, booked our train tickets and let her know our approximate arrival time. Obviously travelling that far t’up norf I asked if I need a big coat, Angie is one tough lady who is not afraid to tell you, me or anyone else to feck off. I remember the first time I met her, I was invited up to their current home to do some tracking training with my Bailey.
Arriving I was met by Wally (who I’d only met once before at The Valley) and introduced to Angie, after coffee Angie said “let’s make a move” looking around for Wally who was halfway up the stairs saying “see you both later, I’m going to do the match thread” so there I am in the arse end of nowhere with a woman I’ve just met, what the f**k is going on here.
These strange northern customs got even more surprising when Arriving at a farmers field, Angie tells me to leave my dog in the car?
Dog training without a dog?
This should be good! Angie proved to me in 15 minutes I knew f**k about dogs and even less about German Shepherds as I was shown everything from how to hold a lead to where to position your dog when walking.
Then and how we laugh about this now! She asked for me “car keys” now I haven’t had a sheltered upbringing and consider myself worldly wise but this was ringing more alarm bells than my little brain could cope with. 😂 Taking my car keys she said, I’m going to pace out 360 steps towards that tree on the horizon, then 370 steps towards that farmhouse we can see on the right, I’m going to put your car keys on the ground and return to you! You now have to follow that track and you will find your keys, so off I set s****** my pants that in this 4 acre field somewhere are my keys, as I followed her instructions to the letter I slowly paced out the steps which were so etched in my head I still remember them to this day, on step 370 around 12” to my left were my car keys. As Angie said “I was beaming as i returned to her” so relieved to find my keys.
The moral of the story is, never ask a dog to do what you can’t do yourself! We spoke about Wally and how his knowledge of German shepherds influenced me via this forum as she looked in mock surprise, I’d also asked why as I heard her say she called him “Wally” Firstly, I’ll deal with him later on subject the dogs, but it’s all I can do to get him out of the house to join exercising them. Secondly, Wally, he prefers to be called Wally rather than Malcolm. To me and where I come Wally is like a nickname for someone who’s a bit of a *pauses to think of a polite word for it *. …………….. impatiently waiting for me to speak, Angie said “Wanker” Wally is another name for a bit of a wanker. 😂😂 The ice was broken I’d met a couple that I felt more comfortable with than my own sisters, yes they live t’up norf and nothing wound up Wally than calling him a Northerner, the standing joke of adding 50 years to his age.
Angie my sister from another mother and Wally the brother I never had.
A former football great once said about football, "It's not life or death, it's more important than that!"
In actual fact, it is in a way, by the way it unites total strangers, to band together, through the good times and the very worst. The common denominator is our collective love for our club, and in turn, our love and devotion to each other.
Really sorry to hear this. Very much enjoyed the match threads over the years, @Redmidland a stand out name on the forum. Hope Malc is comfortable and you get there in time Ray.
Back off hols and catching up. So sorry to hear of these developments. RM is and always will be a CL legend and what a true friend he has in Ray. Thoughts are with them and with Angie.
Thinking of you @Redmidland although I don’t think we ever met, we had dialogues on here a few times and I remember your work travels when we spoke about Jakarta, both in same hotel but a few weeks apart … you have brightened up CL many times

Safe journey @T_C_E.
Thoughts with those closest to him.

I hope this weekend is a win for our friends.
Safe journey Ray, get there as quick as you can mate.
My thoughts are with all of you today.
