Already concerned that we won’t be able to extend Bree’s loan/sign him in January!
Think he's out of contract at Southampton in 2026, and is on a good wedge, but would be a real coup if we were to get him on a perm in Jan...
The key could well be him getting lots of game time and him enjoying his football with us. Early days of course but based on yesterday it’s hard to see him not selected. Six games in and I’m still not sure Jones completely knows his best team yet. We grew into last season and although I can’t see us equalling our post Christmas run I think we’ve still got better to come.
  • Great result,  thought there was a late goal coming just glad we got it 👍

I love this title of 'Game changer' so often referred to by Nathan.

Tanto spoke about it in his interview, 'the game changers to come on after 60 minutes'.  I can just imagine players demanding to know why they're not starting, only to be told, 'Because you're the game changer'!  What kudos that title holds ... especially when you go out and actually do it!
We used to have one game changer.
Chuks bless him, would get eased out of his wheelchair on 60 minutes usually to see if he could help to salvage a point from a losing position.
We now appear to have a bench full of "game changers".
Hate the term "game changers". If they can "change" a game for you from the bench why aren't they playing from the start....then you could win the game comfortably.

Imagine Jimmy Greaves, Glen Hoddle, Gazza, Maradona being sat on the bench for 80 mins & only getting a 10 min cameo because they are so good they can affect the game in such a small amount of time.

Say it as it is. They are players you throw on when you need a point (or 3) and the other 11 players haven't managed to do it for you in the first 80 mins. Desperation stakes is what I call it.

(Its ok, I'll get back into my box now)
You're saying Knibbs against Watford and Tanto against Sheffield were not game changers? Even though they both came off the bench to score the winning goal. It's not desperation, it's having a strong squad!

You write so much, so often, here, but rarely actually make any sense.
David Fairclough was probably the first and still the greatest game changer.
But there is no way he would've started before Keegan/Toshack or Dalglish/Johnson.
That will have been Keith Peacock ;)
He was definitely the first sub.
Didn't call em  game changers then

I ended up not making it, first league/ play off game I’ve missed since Orient on 1st March a 21 game run which felt noteworthy after many years of much less consistent attendance inspired by our dire run

was away in poncy country hotel with missus and friends and was hoping to whiz up on Saturday morning but hangover + she wasn’t gonna have it meant they all got to sit in some posh lounge bar whilst I streamed it. Went embarrassingly mental when the winner went in. Was very jealous of the rainy away end looked class

agreed with poster who said tantos finish was poor, when he struck it I was already for a split second getting ready to erupt in a different way with yet more frustration as it looked like it was gonna bounce back off the keeper, should’ve been putting that well into the corner / top corner miles from the keeper but don’t give a shit, well in mate and I like Tanto and would like to see a bit more of him

TC frustrated the hell out of me, he is so effective in driving us up the pitch and wins free kicks etc and so important in many ways but Jesus his end product, so frustrating his shooting, crossing and passing, and he’s so slow to make a pass or cross - doesn’t seem like the right partner for Kelman who wants an early ball. Wouldn’t mind seeing Apter there with Bree who seems very good in the RWB role

we should have scored sooner, continuing worry is the lack of quality in final third, fluctuating between thinking that is gonna have us scrapping for our lives Vs we’re just a whisker/ bit of finessing away from being a play off contender

leaburn made a big difference, seems to be following in his fathers footsteps of polarising support but I love him, brilliant first header for the goal and although he might have scored that one that broke to him he at least struck it well unlike the pansy shots from TC and Kelman earlier on

Bell has been one of my favourite players of the season. Ramsays left footed twin brother, and without the cringe instagram videos
    He's learning from Kayne...

The amount of editing and effects can hardly tell what’s going on 😂
  • Nathan Jones sets the team up to win 1-0 - it happened a fair amount last year not least in the play off semi and the final
So long as he sticks to his system we aren’t going to suddenly start scoring loads of goals whether we are playing Kelman or Harry Kane up front.
If Ramsey hadn’t got himself sent off this would have been our 3rd 1-0
I think the gloom about this is a bit overdone
i think we will win quite a few with this score and that will be enough for a mid table finish
I think this is bang on. Hopefully it will be enough to see us safe but the problem arises when we go behind and when we do we’ll struggle because we’re just not set up to chase the game. Yes we can change the personnel to give us a bit more going forward but we’ll then lose that solid looking foundation, as we found out at QPR who with respect are not one of the better teams in our division.
I disagree on QPR. now they have Saito back (1st game was against us), have Kone scoring goals and Ilias Chair and poku to return, I think they will be top half / play off team when you compare them to other teams we have played.

Your point is valid about coming from behind though, but is a Nathan Jones trait.  More often than not last season, if we went behind, we struggled to win (but got some draws, eg Lincoln).

  • Was there yesterday and can’t add much to what has already been said except the officials.
The Lino closest to us was on drugs. Gave a crazy throw in against us when we clearly hadn’t touched the ball. Bell got booked as a result. Then the ref. Some of his decisions were bordering on cheating. I think it was Doc got tripped in the middle of the pitch and went flying. Ref gave free kick against him!!
and there were many more where the players clearly didn’t know why he had blown.
He was absolutely fucking useless for both sides. Incredible some of the stuff he was giving.

i often agree with some of your more controversial stuff golfie but i think by the time you'd finished writing this, you knew you were wrong - i think the game is so tactical these days, its like a game of chess for 75 minutes and then a match breaks out in the last 15+ where one side or other will try and win it - its one of my grumbles about modern football - teams used to go all out for 90 minutes.
  • You always expect the players to really celebrate a goal at the death to win a match but just look at our bench. Jones really does appear to have built something quite special.
  • If you've questioned whether we have the players, the resources, the ambition & the following to keep our hard fought place in the Championship for another season...

...then as the young'uns are wont to say " Give your 'ead a wobble! "

THIS squad , THIS manager, THIS Board, THESE Fans are what we've awaited for so long.

The energy expended by our lads, the sheer bl**dy mindness attitude of getting in the face of the opposition, the fantastic team spirit & the passion ( who doesn't like a bit of that ? ) mirror our very special manager.

How can this be anything less than a recipe for success ?

Believe. Keep the faith. Be an integral part of this exciting chapter in the history of our great club.

    You won't regret it.

( The Tingle is back with knobs on !)
What a great turn of phrase Fanny...😉
  • Couple of observations this morning after digesting the season so far....

    1) We have no team to be worried about this season
    2) We will gain more confidence in our play now that we know this
    3) We have a monster defence - likely in top 6 in league. If we can get the attack to raise their game by one notch, then i dont see why we cant get into top 6 by end of season.
