Weird atmosphere today, almost felt like a friendly against a lower league club - especially in the first half.Think being the favourites for once didn’t sit well with us. Roll on Tuesday when we’re back to underdogs!7

At the time I didn’t realise the shot had hit the post, I thought Kaminski had saved it hence the could he have done better but having watched it again there wasn’t much he could have done about it.Bailey said:
I've watched it again and it comes through a crowd of players, should he have done better ? if we had the benefit of being behind the goal then we perhaps could make a judgement.LargeAddick said:ForeverAddickted said:For all the talk about Kelman, he's a Striker who didnt score once, nor have a shot on target
Why is Kaminski immune to any blame... He's a Goalkeeper, its his job to stop the ball from going in the net, and he couldnt do that on one occasion.
I thought in real time he should have done better but I've not seen it again. Like most keepers these days they seem happy to palm it away even if into the danger zone. And he was Mr Flappy a couple of times too. An upgrade on Mannion. Maybe but not massively.3 -
Not a dig at you only but I never get this ‘free hit’ malarkey. Every game is worth three points, why is Ipswich a free hit? Because they are supposedly a better team than Hull? Even though Hull are above them in the table. I’m sure NJ won’t approach it as a free hit and will pick a team capable of picking up points.Southbank said:
If Leaburn and Tanto start on Tuesday I can guarantee we will be pinned in our own penalty area from the first minute.Blucher said:Well, we certainly made hard work of that. Having been beautifully placed at half-time, we contrived to almost squander a comfortable 2-0 lead. Ultimately, though, it’s another 3 precious points to keep us in the calm waters of mid-table - 15 down, 45 to go.
We were hardly fluent in the first half but created a number of openings against a very shaky Wednesday defence, with Sonny Carey’s desire to shoot on sight and then follow up giving us an early lead. Bree’s excellent free-kick laid on the second for Burke just before half time and we went in feeling uncharacteristically comfortable.
Wednesday continued to look vulnerable throughout the second half but managed to achieve a measure of control in midfield and push us deep. Our ‘press’ seemed to fall apart and Wednesday found a lot of space in midfield to work the ball to within 30 yards of our goal. Very uncharacteristic of a Charlton side under Nathan. Their goal when it came was deserved and no surprise and, duly encouraged, Wednesday pressed forward for an equaliser. They missed one decent opportunity with a header squirting wide, while we broke on them on several occasions but a lack of quality in the final ball let us down.
In the end, we saw the game out reasonably well, while also being treated to Wednesday’s keeper reprising Schumacher’s 1982 assault on Patrick Battiston. To the amazement of everyone in the ground, the ref waved play on until his Lino set him straight. Fortunately, Tanto was unscathed (not a man to bump into) and although Macca was unable to insert the ball into the top corner against the midget in goal, it mattered not.
Not our best performance by any means but Carey was excellent and Jones, Bell, Bree and Leaburn also did very well.
On to Ipswich, where I feel Leaburn and Tanto may start. We looked a little flat in midfield today but Carey is undroppable and Jones understandably trusts the Coventry/Doc combination in the centre that has generally served us so well. Hopefully Anderson will be on the bench if we need to inject a bit of energy and pace.
15 points from 10 games is a fine return - happy days.
It is extraordinarily strange to me that people cannot accept the evidence of their own eyes to see how much pressure we have been under when those two are up front.
Having said that, and having heard NJ say he will rotate, we may start with those two, but only because Hull is a more winnable game and Ipswich is a bit of a write off, or 'free hit' as the saying goes.10 -
I see Ipswich as relatively there for the taking. Yes, they've improved recently but they haven't hit the heights that they will. We have a much better chance of getting points than we probably will in April.LargeAddick said:

What happened to the promised Sheff Wed protests? seemed to consist of holding up gold/brownish scarves. Where were the pigs? where were the product catalogues? where were the banners? where were the fans travelling to Thailand to hassle their owner? very second rate.10

They never said they would protest. Their protests tend to be home boycotts. Lots of black and yellow scarves and anti Chansiri chants thoughgringo said:What happened to the promised Sheff Wed protests? seemed to consist of holding up gold/brownish scarves. Glad of the win, but for too many players that was a significant step backwards from the heights of Blackburn. Thought Carey was head and shoulders above every other player on the pitch. I don't agree that he tired 2nd half, he was adding a lot at the back covering the others at that point. Doc and Coventry have been great recently, but either of them could've come off with no complaints. As for up front, I think he needs to mix it up, would like to see Campbell have impact off the bench against a tired defense. Annoyed at Kelman as felt he'd been improving and gelling into the side, but he looked a yard off it, which cost him a clear chance in the first half. Also the Bell/Gillesphey left side leaves a lot to be desired going forwards, it was all too defensive. Would've liked to see Hernandez used after an hour. played much better this season and lost, notably against Leicester.8
-
PWR from p. 5 onwards but Coventry and Gillesphey have no pace for Championship standard.
I like both but it is worrying when Connor has to get a yellow to stop an attack because the forward is gaining on him.
Olaofe did well when he got going. I would have preferred him and Kelman as a forward pair, as TC, as much as I love him, needs a break.
One nice counter jinx was that not long after I said I was not convinced by Burke, he scored 😁0 -
I thought we looked tired and leggy, strange considering the International break.
We are getting by ATM (just) but we can't go on forever with our forwards not scoring.
With TC away all week, yesterday would have been the ideal opportunity to try Hernandez or Oloafe in his position. There are players who need minutes, but Jones seems intent on sticking with TC no matter what.
Yes, he finally made a good pass, but the goal was more down to Carey, and his willingness and ability to shoot, than it was the pass.
TC has been below par for most of this season and needs some time out.
Kelman looked sharper and full of running and might have scored but for a great block.
Leaburn needs to get back to his best, but I don't see how that's going to happen simply by coming on as a sub every single game.
Jones is doing a fantastic job, but even he admitted that he should have freshened up the team at Preston. Yet once again yesterday, he seems very reticent to try anything different.11 -
Great win and am also glad political nonsense didn’t interfere unlike at QPR with all that taking the knee nonsense, why that’s still happening albeit occasionally is beyond me, especially when the forefront of that BLM movement is an open racist herself, however three points and more importantly concentration was on the football COYR!!!17

Clear foul on Knibbs and a yellow but I thought it was outside the area.randy andy said:PWR
Thought we were distinctly average, even sloppy at times, in the first half, yet still comfortably better than SW and could have been further clear.
This led to a second half where we had no urgency and seemed content to let them have lots of the ball and failed to utilise it when we did regain possession.
Given that their goal was almost inevitable. So happy we held on for the win, but we should have been out of sight long before their goals.
P.s. ref was shocking, continually giving them free kicks for nothing challenges and failing to send their 29 for a kick off the ball (right in front of the equally useless lino), failing to give a penalty for a clear fail on Knibbs (or to book Knibbs for a dive if it wasn't a foul), and even seeming hesitant to send of their keeper for a WWE-esque flying cross body to the head at the end.1 -
I’d say passing the ball to the person who has a shot counts as an assistBedsaddick said:
I’m not sure that counts as an assist . It’s was Carey’s own shot that was parried and he followed it up .altrinchamaddick said:

Two things stand out from watching the replay of the keepers foul on Tanto.
it looks like the keeper targets Tanto; he should get more than a three game ban.The referee isn’t even looking at the two players on the deck; he needs to be sent on a retraining course, preferably as a park keeper, he shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a football pitch again.9 -
-
In the last ten mins NJ telling Kaminski to go down was needed but he needs to be more subtle and disguised with it , it’s a move that we use a lot and I thought they were trying to cut it out .
He gets the fake treatment and is then just inside the halfway line taking our free kick6 -
Not sure what was the most misplaced, his hair or his cross field passes.cantersaddick said:

I did wonder at the time, if it was a dive why wasn’t he booked, then a few minutes later I realised the ref was just useless when playing on when their keeper bulldozed Olaofe.CaptainRobbo said:Did anyone get a clear look at or seen footage of the foul on Knibbs, or possible dive from Knibbs?3 -
10 games in and were 9th with 15pts, think we would all of have taken that start, 36 games to go .....big congrats to Nathan and the team for a fantastic start to the Championship.
TC & Kelman debate, I would love to see Miles or Tanto start with Kelman at Ipswich, I thought TC looked tired after long flights & 2 internationals yesterday. I think maybe Tuesday game is one for TC to be on sub's bench & I'd like Kelman to be given 75-80mins, I think he will click. he just needs a goal which will come. COYA's7 -
Got the job done, felt we didn’t play with our usual intensity which I can forgive as they were poor apart from Bannan who as obnoxious as he is, is like the goblin king Pirlo.
Their keeper has a rancid game, the referee was another shitter
They are fucked, going down possibly with a record low amount of points but I hope they don't fold.3 -

Agree with that 100 percent,Carey was looking good and I was a bit annoyed he was taken off,it was the two behind him who were struggling to keep up with the passing and running second half but maybe it was just an off day as that hasn't been the case alot of times this season just wish they could add a bit more creativity from those areas. Would like olaofe to start aswell he's stronger than Campbell maybe not as skillfull but looks a proper menace and i'd like to see what TC does against a tired defence too.we do miss Edwards on that left side as you say it's taking away a bit of our attack and as much as we deal with anything in the air now with the back three I do like bell in that lcb slot with his trickery and ability to lay it off to the lwb.I also thought bree wasn't upto much second half and could have been subbed but then Nathan kept it tight and doesn't trust apter I think to see out tight games although he could have been more dangerous going forward. All in all though 3 points is 3 points and Im sure He will over analyse everything from vids and get the message out.Jonniesta said:Glad of the win, but for too many players that was a significant step backwards from the heights of Blackburn. I thought it was a shame we didn't test their keeper more - he looked nervous from the start. I note one correspondent on Owlstalk referred to him as an 'on loan League One reserve goalie'. Another wrote this ... but I dunno what other options they've got.
If it was for denying a goalscoring opportunity, as it looked in real time, it's one game. If it was for violent conduct, which it could have been looking at the replay, it's three.
Come on ref, do the right thing, give him three.

Just repeating what everyone else has said really. First half complete control, second half was like they all didnt want to pick up any cards/injuries/fitness issues luckily wednesday although getting themselves back in the game werent good enough to do anymore than that. We stand off pretty much any other team in this league like we did in that half and we'll lose, even if we're 2 goals to the good.4
-
I’d stick with Kelman on Tuesday because I’m not sure dropping him will do his confidence any good plus he’s played well . TC on the other hand needs to have break . He looks like he can’t be bothered at times which is the complete opposite to Tanto , who should Definitely start .11

But passing the ball to your team mate is an essential part of the game. You shouldn't get extra "marks" for doing your job.AddicksAddict said:

True but also a great piece of play and pass can lead to a goal such as the Sheffield united game, which wouldn't have happened without brees bit of class and putting it on a plate,of course the tc situation yesterday is a different scenario but it was nice play and if Carey laces in the first shot tc would possibly get a bit more of the plaudits for the cut in and lay off but it is what it is.golfaddick said:

TC, plays in the play off final week later is off on Jamaica duty for the entirety of June immediately comes back straight to preseason then plays almost all our 4 opening games, then straight back out to Jamaica comes back starts our next 5 games including one midweek game then straight back out to Jamaica comes back Thursday starts Saturday and he’s lazy opposed to being tired. Tanto should definitely start Tuesday but saying TC can’t be bothered is bizarreBedsaddick said:I’d stick with Kelman on Tuesday because I’m not sure dropping him will do his confidence any good plus he’s played well .
