Winter-January 2026 Transfer Window Rumours ...

This is where I'm a bit unsure about the Sichenje rumour. Having 4/5 RCB options feels excessive if he signs.Callumcafc said:
You can’t just keep adding more and more and more players as insurance policies though. At a certain point you have to look at how many players are on the books and be as comfortable as you can with what you have.NabySarr said:
Not really if TC is an option for the forward line, Bell is a LCB and Fevrier is a right wing back.Callumcafc said:
The alternative is adding another player who can play there and have five players to cover one position for 18 games. It’s very likely not going to happen.NabySarr said:
That would be an absolutely baffling plan. Having lost Edwards and then struggled with either playing Bell there and him getting injured, or playing wingers there and us being massively vulnerable on the left hand side for the first half of the season. Why on earth would we risk the exact same happening again and rely on a young player who hasn’t played much senior football and has just come off a long lay off, to stay fit until the end of the season. Would be a crazily silly risk to take when it’s the one thing that’s put us in this situation in the first placeCallumcafc said:
I disagree. I think Chambers, Fevrier, Bell and TC are your options there. Fevrier will be preferred on the right and the plan is that Chambers plays almost all of the remaining 18 games.NabySarr said:
Hope not, he’s much better on the right. We need Fevrier on the right so we’ve got a threat from either side, even if it’s mostly from the bench.MarcusH26 said:
Think Fevrier is your left wing back being naturally left footed and will cover both sides.BigDiddy said:Left back and creative midfielder ?
Unless we fill those positions, we will stay in trouble.
Any rumours ?
We still desperately need another left wing back. Chambers and Fevrier really isn’t good enough and I think we will be trying to add another option
There are doubts whether Fevrier can step up, I’m optimistic he can, but there’s definitely much more chance of that happening if you play him on his best side of the pitch. He’s not a left wing backWe only have Chambers that’s an actual left wing back. If that’s all we are left with then we massively risk repeating the exact same mistakes that have left us struggling and in this position
I think the only way we sign another left footed defender now is if Gillesphey is out the door and we can find someone to cover both positions, like YannTheMann suggested.
Edit: oops sorry it was @fenaddick ‘s suggestion.1 -
We’ve just watched us be terrible for 3 months because we didn’t have a fit left wing back. Why would we go into the second half of the season with only 1 fit left wing back?Callumcafc said:

Looking at our squad at the moment. We are ok everywhere with 2 players in each position. The only place we don’t have 2 players is left wing back. We need to add there because we lack numbers and then we need to add in midfield because we lack quality
Bell shouldn’t be near the LWB position as we’ve seen he can’t do it for long without getting injured
TC has been our best option there in recent times but he’s not a good one, and is obviously much better further forward
Fevrier is a right sided player. Playing him on the left will mean he is way too predictable as there he can only go outside his man. It’s like playing TC on the right, he’s no where near as effective. Asking a league 1 RWB to step up to the championship and play LWB would be a huge risk
We probably only need 2 signings but one has to be a left sided defender and the other a midfielder. Docherty can depart if needed to clear a slot for the midfielder4 -
I wasn't getting into a strop. I've never head of the player. I simply said that if a fee is being paid then it wont be from us. It seems like loans only at this stage.sam3110 said:

If they are for a fee then forget it. In January its loans only with this mob.NabySarr said:Portsmouth being linked with Alese from Sunderland. Be a big frustration if they manage to bring in good LCB in Alese along with Ebou Adams midfield. Both should be players we were looking at bringing in for key positions
Maybe we will address both of those areas in the next few days but I’d be surprised if we bring in better players than those 2I don't think you'd be happy if we paid a fee for Aji Alese though. He's been out all season with a shoulder injury but has managed to pay 46 and 60 minutes in two reserve games this month. He played 3 games at the start of the 24/25 season before being out for 12 games with an ankle injury. He struggled to get back into the side until January where he suffered a shoulder injury that has kept him out for an entire year. 12 Championship appearances, 8 of them starts. His last senior game was on 5th January 2025. The season before that he missed the first 21 games with a thigh injury, made two appearances and then was out for another 11 games with an ankle injury. 8 Championship appearance that season, 5 of them starts (and 4 of those losses). If we go back one more year he missed 5 games with an ankle injury, 3 with a foot injury and 11 with a thigh injury which continued into the following season. 19 games missed through injury, 20 Championship appearances, 17 of which were starts. So across 3 and a half seasons he has made 40 appearances, which is about 11 games a season, with 20 of those coming back in 22/23. He's missed, I believe, about 104 games through injury in that time. He hasn't played in over a year.In fact, with that injury record I'm honestly quite surprised we aren't looking at him

Docherty was a weak link in League One and even more so now. Get rid!redbuttle said:
In the end its a players ability that's the most important.Valley11 said:Would be sad to see Doc go, even if it is the right move for him and the club.
Whatever you think of his abilities, there’s no denying he gave 100% every time he wore the shirt and is one of very few Charlton captains to lift a trophy at Wembley.Good luck to him if he does go.
And take Berry with him.3 -
Need an absolute beast in Midfield and a strong left sided defender.7

As much as I'd love to get rid of Berry and upgrade there , he's NJs favourite and will probably end up retiring with us at this rate.wolfgang said:

Clutching at straws here but NJ’s press conference is usually released at 4pm but nothing yet…0

Team needs good standard left side cover. If things stay as current then it doesn’t look good for staying up.Bell injured & injury risk. Chambers fitness & potential injury risk & Gillesphy, who is vulnerable without quality support. Its back with TC as LWB with any injuries & Gillesephy As LCB. We know where that leads.2 & bit days for the club to sort it out.1

I agree. But this is Nathan Jones we are talking about. I can see NJ using Fevrier as a temporary LWB until Chambers is fully up to speed. He only played 45 mins last Sat & before that a couple of U21 matches to assess his fitness. He is not suddenly going to play 90+ mins in 2 days time.NabySarr said:

Think he's got a club option like Godden but I'd be surprised if we pick it up. Ibby isn't ready to be a starter in that role so if I'm being really greedy I'd quite like 2 CMs this window 😅fenaddick said:

Henry Rylah has joined Derry city on loan until the end of the season.0

Based on that handy squad graphic, in an ideal - yet realistic world - I would like us to secure two players matching these profiles:
- A left footed defender who primarily is comfortable at LCB and LWB.
- A physical 'box to box' midfielder who can press, carry the ball and run and run and run - not asking for too much!
I think that gives us the best chance of having a balanced squad for the remainder of the season. Although Jones spoke of his desire for a midfielder who can control the game, so perhaps that is his focus instead.
In terms of outgoings it's clear Docherty is the most likely. I can't see us letting Macca go - whilst he's not my favourite player we don't have the depth there to allow that move at the moment.
The Collins signing would surprise me slightly as I don't see it as a priority area / player profile, unless they really really rate him. I think that money could be spent elsewhere. Hopefully we get some rumours soon!
