I definitely feel with Jones some times that subs (timings and players) are largely pre-determined before the game and not reflective of what’s occurring on the pitch.Appreciate there’s a degree of squad management this time of year that factors, but yesterday wasn’t the first time we’ve weakened after making a change9

Just when NJ seems to have found the start of a good lineup, he tinkers and messes it up again.0

Thanks, I must not have been paying full attention. Never been a massive fan myself but, yesterday aside, thought he's done his job from the bench recently. Actually thought we might bring him on for Olaofe and pack the midfield as it looked like we needed an extra body in there.Chunes said:
He let his man run off him 2-3 times and he let him man cut inside and beat him. I don't know why Doch thought the player was going outside in that moment because he made no movement to do so. He made it too easy.Talal said:
Seen a few comments like this, what did he do that was so bad? I may have missed something but aside from not having an influence, I don't recall any major errors.wmcf123 said:Time for Docherty not to play again, in my view. I saw some 6s and even a 7 on the marks thread- I thought he was awful and it was a substitution that made no sense to me - Anderson wasn’t spectacular but he was doing Anderson type things .
Sometimes we talk about how a player's qualities will be obvious when they're not playing, but I thought yesterday was the opposite. Doch came on and our midfield instantly became worse.
I'll be honest, he is just not my type of player. He shuttles around the pitch and doesn't offer much else. He did have a run of good form earlier in the season but I don't think his foundational ability is good enough. Top bloke, though.1 -

I was raging at full time yesterday. Today I’m still bloody raging. For me that was our worst performance of the season, there just didn’t seem to be any desire, how we can go 90 mins without a shot on target against a team that leaks goals is beyond me. I didn’t expect to get anything from the game points wise but that level of performance is just not acceptable.9

I think 9 subs with 5 able to come on is also a factor in that. It means we’ll almost always replace our strikers, a wing back and a CM, as ideally you don’t take off your GK and CBs.AFKABartram said:I definitely feel with Jones some times that subs (timings and players) are largely pre-determined before the game and not reflective of what’s occurring on the pitch.Appreciate there’s a degree of squad management this time of year that factors, but yesterday wasn’t the first time we’ve weakened after making a change0 -
Some of the premeditation yesterday was about returning from injury. Clearly Bell was cleared for 60 mins and Kelman is only allowed 30, probably being upped to 60 at Pompey3

Felt like a massive opportunity to get away from trouble was squandered, definitely felt like l there was an attempt to manage the game and the squad because of the schedule, which in turn took away our intensity, it was crap and a waste of a day, but I'd rather have had the points in the bag going into Pompey.
Monday feels very big for our season.....1 -

Wrexham did what we should have, Ive always thought if we can keep pace with them we'll be ok, amazingly still only 4 behind with a game in hand.twiggyaddick said:Felt like a massive opportunity to get away from trouble was squandered, definitely felt like l there was an attempt to manage the game and the squad because of the schedule, which in turn took away our intensity, it was crap and a waste of a day, but I'd rather have had the points in the bag going into Pompey.

Only been (un)fortunate enough to go to 2 away games this year - Stoke & Norwich. Both times we’ve played like a Sunday league side.Maybe I’ll stop going to away games for everyone’s sake!0

One issue which I haven’t seen mentioned was the abject lack of leadership yesterday, which has been a theme for some time. I don’t think Docherty is incredible but when he’s not on the pitch I feel like we often look more like XI individuals rather than a coherent team. Lloyd Jones is about the only other player that I see orchestrating, encouraging and cajoling the rest of the team. I really hope this is something that can be addressed in January (and I’d probably something that is easier addressed than us suddenly being able to sign a prolific striker).wmcf123 said:Time for Docherty not to play again, in my view. Ditto this. Just about getting it out my system. The worst thing is I’ve been away in Thailand over Xmas so watched the Brum, Oxford game and this one on Valley Pass. First two were good, but it’s a 10pm kick off over here so last night I literally had to shut the laptop and go straight to bed on that result - it’s such a horrible feeling compared to being in the UK and having a bit of the evening to get it out your system. Suffice to say I won’t be up at 2.45am on Tuesday morning for the Pompey game. But of course if we get a result, like a sucker I’ll be buying the Coventry game on streamAndyG said:I was raging at full time yesterday. Today I’m still bloody raging. And that's the thing that we are still only a small number of points from the middle of the league, with half the season to go so there's an opportunity to get well away, we need to find something to kick us on and away, and need to find it in January, until then, we have to back what we have got.EugenesAxe said:

Interesting and plausible thought. Certainly more thought-provoking than the one you posted under mine in the Abbott thread a few days ago:Major said:As much as I have supported him, I think Nathan Jones had a stinker today. I know it's easy to second guess but after pretty well holding our own in the usual ugly style, the first substitutions messed it all up.
Further - and this is what I marvel at - it seems pretty clear that Bree is not 100% recovered from his groin injury. We all saw what he can do before he got injured.
If you have to play him because there is no alternative, why the hell do you also make him kick dead balls when he can't get the ball up in the air?
It was blindingly obvious and yet the manager sits on his hands and makes him keep doing it.
Seems pretty brutal.
Now wondering if this thinking was why Dr. Will Abbott left.
"People believe what they choose to believe. Maybe time to move on?"

Fulham 4-0 Charlton. Bradley Pritchard was good though, or something
Millwall 0-0 Charlton (2012). Appalling game, we didn't lose at least. This is a highlight of this list.
Watford 5-0 Charlton. No notes.
Fulham 3-0 Charlton. Never go back to Fulham. This was a really bad performance. That it may seem unclear which 3-0 defeat at Fulham this is, I'll demystify: it was the 2016 relegation freefall one, not the Bob Peeters worm-turn (which was before that Watford game anyway). Note that we haven't scored yet
Millwall 3-1 Charlton. We scored! We scored in an away game I went to! The small, trifling downside? We got gubbed by Millwall. Never go back to Millwall. Never go to Millwall. Anyway, I enjoyed it so much, a week or two later I went to...
Southend 1-1 Charlton. The Andrew Crofts game! The game where Andrew Crofts did something! We were terrible. But we got a late equaliser! Things are looking up!
MK Dons 1-2 Charlton. WE WON. WE WON A GAME. AHMED KASHI BANGER. YES LADS. Maybe even as many as 3000 MK Dons fans, owned by sheer team spirit and skill! Hey this is probably a lucky ground for me, I'd better come back some day
Wycombe 0-1 Charlton. WE WON AGAIN. SUPER JASON PEARCE. THE WORM HAS TRULY TURNED I AM NO LONGER AN AWAY CURSE. SURELY NOW I AM TO HAVE GRAND TREATS IN STORE
...
MK Dons 2-1 Charlton. Never mind. Never go to Milton Keynes. Never go oh you get it by now. Luckily I learnt my lesson (for now) and didn't go back to Wycombe to see us gutlessly lose that one too a few weeks later. But then, a few weeks after THAT,
Lincoln 2-1 Charlton. MacGillivray, Souare, Gunter, Famewo, Lavelle, Arter (Watson), Gilbey, Kirk, Leko, Lee (Blackett-Taylor), Davison (Stockley).
AFC Wimbledon 1-1 Charlton. A terrible game with a truly beautiful and legendary moment courtesy of Ryan Inniss
and look, that's seven consecutive away games where we've at least scored, let's keep that up eh?
Lincoln 0-0 Charlton. My girlfriend came to this one. She fell asleep. Never go etc etc
Derby 2-0 Charlton. My girlfriend was somehow persuaded to come to this one too. She has not seen a game since. (The other game she attended was a 0-0 home game against Wednesday. She will never know the joy and surprise of a Charlton goal)
Leyton Orient 1-0 Charlton. My first, but not my last, Boxing Day abomination. Somehow possibly the worst game on this list
Norwich 1-0 Charlton. A-ha!
So, in summary, fuck these wasters, and see you at some godawful fiasco next year

Whilst I would give huge credit to NJ for getting us into the championship last year his shortcomings (no pun intended) are coming home to roost. Tactively he has only one style, the bizarre over resilience on ex Luton players who have a long history of being both injured and only playing 50% of the games ( Potts, Hylton, Bell, Burke). A job to Danny Hylton as a forward coach who's record so far is less than impressive, actually hopeless. Poor management of players like Apter, JRC, plus persistence with players woefully out of form with Bree, Docherty, Carey and TC. If not for last minute winners I think not only would we be in the bottom 3 NJ would be in trouble also. A lot on the forum don't rate Macca but with Bell/Edwards injuries he has been exposed by NJ even more bizarre picks of players playing on the left ( Fullah,Apter, Ramsey, TC).
I hope he (NJ) can turn it around but have my doubts and happy to hold my hands up.8 -

You've not even scratched the surface of the misery that's been available to the real die hards over the last 50 years, trust me - but, i think everybody needs to take a step back and look where we were last year and acknowledge that it was always going to be an uphill battle this year - we all knew that, as did the club. We have an opportunity to invest again next month and we will be stronger week on week as the returning players get minutes under their belt. I'm confident we will stay up and the banana boys won't go up and i think the palace long overdue wobble is imminent. We then invest again in the summer and this time next year, we will be in a much better position to compete better every game in this division. We know with a full strength team now we can do that - in a year's time the squad will be more resilient - it is what it is and i'm looking forward to the battle - give me that over a mid table league 1 bore fest any day of the week.Leuth said:

Our family gathering round ours had nieces boyfriend, scum fan, cheering on Norwich cos we’d all been cheering on Ipswich and 13 year old nephew, palace fan, cheering Norwichs Goal ….. they’re nowhere near as invested in it as us lot but my pure hatred and vitriol to their teams has probably made them dislike Charlton more .AFKABartram said:

highlight of the day was when flag clearly went up for offside as scum player went through and I was saying score score score and he did and plenty of the fuckwits in the crowd cheered.
That’s all we’ve got , is the shitness of others to bring enjoyment cos we’re so ponage .

Well if you didn't realize the Championship was a big step up you should by now !
We made Norwich look like a top 6 team not a side that were 2nd bottom at the start of play.
Spoiler alert...
Just like finding out the Santa clause was your dad or mum, the 'shock' that we are limited at this level when the opposition are at it, is a reality check that no Charlton fan wanted to face up too.
Charlton looked good going around the Cutty Sark near the leaders but getting cramp by half way isn't a pretty sight limping across Tower Bridge in this Championship marathon.
Josh Edwards' fighting spirit is the big loss at LWB with Bell, Jones and Ramsey as the 3 CB's with pick your player of choice at RWB.
We can't afford to be all at sea against Pompey.

I thought we allowed them to bully us. Not unfairly but they were best in most duels. The goal was very lucky but they were buying raffle tickets and we were not and they deserved one to come up for them. Which ultimately it did.3
-
They were so much better than us across the field, but in particular they dominated the midfield, we could hardly win the ball there. They just passed round and through us.0
-
That has to be Tanto's last start if we've got any other forward players fit.
Didn't try a leg
Bree was awful it's true but not for lack of effort
TC did his case no favours at all, burned past a defender once then checked out apart from to give the ball away relentlessly
But for Kaminski we'd have got a shallacking
NJ might look like a total lunatic on the touchline but his energy is badly needed
Hopefully Bell recovers with no issues after 60 minutes - we're much less porous with him playing5 -
