Coventry and Middlesbrough as well, its not just Pompey and Oxford beneath usCaptainRobbo said:Thank heavens for QPR 🙏2 -
Poor performance but not the end of the world. React well against Pompey and all win be forgotten. Still have a good cushion to the relegation places. This time last year we were scraping past Cambridge6

Dreadful.I won’t be the first or last to mention James Bree today. It’s not just every single set piece he took, but also every time he had possession. Completely wasted it. Either doesn’t beat the first man or it’s just a completely limp lofted ball to nowhere. We set up to handover possession to a really poor Norwich side, we occasionally won the ball in the final third thanks to the energy of Anderson usually, then have no urgency to create in the chaos. What’s the point then? Then he brings Doc on to completely slow things down.
You can say their goal is lucky but we had warnings from the exact same move in the first half.
Nathan Jones has to take a lot of the blame for today. There was no need to set up like that and not start with Apter and Campbell as wing backs and take the game to Norwich.
Useless performance.6 -
Other than the memory of the 1-5 defeat to Southampton where we did similar with no defensive Wing-Backs?The Red Robin said:There was no need to set up like that and not start with Apter and Campbell as wing backs and take the game to Norwich.4 -
Wow, that was bad. Never looked like scoring. Norwich were running through the centre of our midfield like it wasn’t there, yet we play 3 there? Concerned. Hope we add in January.2

We always win at fratton park .... not this time we wont8

I think we’re in for a long second half to the season and Nathan Jones is going to be in some trouble if that carries on.3
-
If I said I enjoyed 10 seconds of that game, I would be lying. That was positively honking.
We've put in some turgid attacking performances over the years, but that tops them all. We were so disjointed, discombobulated, whatever you want to call it - we could not string one simple idea together. Nobody was making the runs they should be making, and we made simple five-yard passes look like the hardest thing in the world.
A special mention for James Bree, that performance is up there with TC vs Cray Valley Paper Mills as one of the all-time worst performances in a Charlton shirt.7 -
Watched on Sky, thought we were awful.
Constantly giving away possession, wasted set pieces, offered nothing going forward. We look devoid of ideas.4 -

Realising I basically shouldn't do away games. It's always this, every time4

He was awful. But the dead ball should have been given to someone else after that terrible free kick on the edge of their box. But no. Just on and on eith the same results.Covered_End_Lad said:Bree’s delivery was as bad as I’ve ever seen, didn’t beat the first man in about 10 attempts7 -
Looked very much like Bree has been told his time with us is up. Became a hindrance the longer the game went on and yet, still there at the end!3
-
I was watching on Sky from the middle of nowhere in the depths of Cornwall. Shite wifi which kept freezing…. At least I thought it was.
Turns out that was the true pace of our play.4 -
Awful performance. With the ball we looked like a team of strangers, and with Bree wearing two left boots, our set pieces were consistently poor.
We gave a fragile Norwich side an incredibly easy afternoon.
Kaminski and Gough can hold their heads high, Jones and Coventry were ok.7 -
Sorry to all the fans who made the trek up there over Christmas3
-
Never mind losing, but to lose with a performance like that is infuriating. Miles away from where we have worked so hard to be.Hope jones puts a rocket up them as we will need to be much better on Monday. And I don’t want to see bree stood over another dead ball before he goes back south!2
-
Certainly looking a bit dodgy now, but with 27 points already in the bag and still 13 home games left, we are still in an reasonable position. Could really do with something at Pompey however.7
-
TC, Apter and Fullah need to drag NJ kicking and screaming into acceptance that we need wide attacking threats on the pitch.
No surprise we offered little if anything going forward when we line up without that in the side.
No exaggeration of Bree’s delivery, Gillesphey’s technical ability or Berry and Bell’s experience will find a way around it.
Every so often NJ goes back to a line up like this, but it usually leads to a performance like this. At best we grind out a result with the subs getting us through it.
At least one wide attacking threat to start against Pompey please.10 -

The lack of creativity is infuriating. If we aren't going to create much from open play you need setpiece delivery that will actually beat the first man and that badly needs to be addressed.7
-
Missing the point Red Robin. You can probably get away with Apter at wing back, at home to Oxford, not away at Norwich or even Southampton, if you like. The Red Robin said:

All the substitutions were wrong today, took off all of our physically dominant players in Bell Leaburn and Anderson and then looked toothless because of it. We were ok in the first half and then completely fell apart in the second. How Bree and Carey were on the pitch at the end is beyond me…7
-
No matter who is picked up front, we just cannot score. The way we set up and play, Harland would have an issue scoring for us
Will a 'new' striker change the issue ? .. I doubt it.
Seems we will have to continue relying on real hard graft and defence for the future
Silver lining (from the bottom of the pit) .. Keenen Gough, a decent debut, promises well for the future4 -
Annoying. First half went exactly how we would have wanted and set us up to squeeze them second half and instead we decided to be absolutely rubbish when we came out instead. Devoid of ideas and drive, I’m ok with the long ball when we’re deep but as soon as we got into their half we just panicked every time. Their goal was a bit lucky but they created enough to get that luck, we were entirely praying for that Berry chance to go in and nothing else. Bring me a left wingback, a striker/winger and a midfielder who can shift a bit in the middle please4

Disappointing performance from most of the team.
Given the way the match panned out, I would have kept Leaburn on to join up with Kelman and TC, despite not being as good as against Oxford.
Anderson wasn't on top form, nor was Bree, I would have brought on Doc and RC for them in an attempt to win the midfield.
Gough was impressively solid and made few errors, although he was outpaced on occasions.
Even the ever reliable L.Jones wasn't our best player today, just average rather than outstanding.1 -
The most concerning point for me is that we lacked fight - second half we barely won a single 50/50. Very unlike us. Hoping just a Christmas aberration.7
-
We looked like a very poor L1 side battling in the cup and hoping for a flukey goal. The lack of quality and composure was astounding.7
-
Defended pretty well until Anderson and Bell came off and we lost our shape. Offensively, we were poor all game. Did we even have a shot on target? I don't recall one.
Pleased for Gough and Kaminski saved us on a few occasions. Oh for a player like Mukama - strength, speed, movement and a decent finish.
A team like ours doesn't create a lot from open play so we have to make our set pieces count. Unfortunately, Bree's delivery was truly shocking and on multiple occasions. Apter was also honking when he came on.
Have to hope for a reaction against Portsmouth and hopefully Kelman comes in for Olaofe to give us some proper movement up front.

Need to get as much attacking threat on the pitch as we can against Pompey , I'd be having Apter in for Bree , Fullah or Knibbs for Carey and start Kelman.Scoham said:TC, Apter and Fullah need to drag NJ kicking and screaming into acceptance that we need wide attacking threats on the pitch.

It's just frustrating and I know I should have got used to it but now with NJ that we won't play anyone off the park having 20 shots on goal but today we could have played all day and barely created a sniff.0
