POST-MATCH THREAD: Portsmouth vs Charlton Athletic - Monday 29th December 2025 - 7:45pm Kick-Off
I’m going to keep this one short: I thought we had the better of the first half, and were probably better that them in the second too, but not by much. Yet they scored and we didn’t. Two sides looking desperate not to lose. I can see why they’re in the relegation spots: they’re absolutely awful. Not being able to beat this Portsmouth team is shocking. Being beat by them is unforgivable. But we just didn’t have it in us tonight. [Edit: Knibbsy equalised in the final minute of added time!]
[Edit-edit: Final kick of the game and we concede :-(]
The less said about the ref, the better.
Portsmouth 1 Charlton 0.Portsmouth 1 Charlton 1.
Portsmouth 2 Charlton 1.
Over to you.

Surprised we left the changes so late8

Nathan Jones is currently shoehorning players to fit his system.
If we are going to survive he needs to start thinking about how he gets the best out of the players he has available at the current time.
Thats about all I’ll say for now to avoid writing some things I shouldn’t.

Norwich was must not lose. We lost.
This was definitely must not lose. We lost.
Coventry at the Valley. Must win.10 -
Jones needs to change his approach. And fast.7

As posted on the other thread, having had time to read others views & ponder…
We are desperately in need of a proper motivated NJ ‘dragging them kicking and screaming’ reaction -back to the old school NJ, the newly appointed NJ- only thing that will get survival, is that backs to the wall and us v the world mentality again.
Having said that, its stark to see that there are a lot of fans that are unhappy with NJ - theres a lot of people that need winning back32 -
That’s a sore one, the fixtures don’t get any easier either6
-
Only Charlton can do that.14

0 points from Norwich and Portsmouth, there's absolutely no sugarcoating it. The board either need to bin off Jones as the tactics just aren't working with the players we have, or back him in the window to rectify this. Doing neither will mean relegation is a certainty. It's only Coventry we've got next as well FFS.19

January transfer window will dictate whether we stay up or not. I still have faith until then.21

Just feel so so so deflated. That feels season defining....13
-
Can’t blame the ref for us not defending after the restart from the equaliser. Kaminski should have done much better.16
-
Sickener. We were the better team and still managed to lose.
On the evidence of the last couple of weeks it’s between us, Oxford and Portsmouth for the last two relegation spots.
I’m still confident but nights like that and results like that do not help.23 -
Deflating. Trying to stay positive .. JRC had a good game12

I mean Jesus Christ0

Kaminski to blame for the winner…it was a shit shot3

7 defeats in nine games - laughable. Losing a game in this manner is pathetic...11

Deserved to draw based on the game up until the 96th minute.
But we deserved to lose based on how shite we were for the final 15 seconds, it's absolutely inexcusable, people will blame the ref for playing on, moaning the fact he should have blown up the second they kicked off, but the reality is you play til the end and half our side switched off the moment they restarted the game. Watch it back and see how half our midfield are absolutely nowhere, how 3 players let him bring it down, turn and get a shot off, it's a fucking disgrace13 -
Pig sick at the moment, and pissed off at having to watch professional players refereed by less than Sunday league refs6

Simply unprofessional. I can accept when we don't play well, but switching off like that should be absolutely impossible.6

I’m not ready to accept that we’re going down, and calling for Jones’ head seems nuts to me, but if we do go down then we’ll look at that second Pompey goal as one of the defining moments.24

Restart 97:03
Goal conceded 97:12
Why Gillesphey tried to go and head the ball that was planted on Jones I have no idea. Let Lloyd deal with it and the ref probably blows up.The space he vacated was exactly where their man ended up scoring from.18 -
Bin off that Kit and this Manager!
He wanted total control he has it!
Who honestly trusts NJ with any more money?20 -
I mean - I can understand thinking we might have enough, or we might just stay up. But I can't what confidence can be based upon.Callumcafc said:Sickener. We were the better team and still managed to lose.

Not too much surprises me in football anymore, but I was so absolutely, completely convinced that the ref was going to just blow the whistle as Pompey kicked off after our goal that I went and stuck the kettle on feeling pretty good about maintaining that gap between us and them in the table. And then… wow.4

No justice in football much better tonight from the boys , the ref was a disgrace where did he find the time to kick off after our goal … fully deserved something from that game .. really feel sorry for the boys tonight no justice in football sometimes but very encouraging going forward15
-
Totally and utterly pathetic. The same old players we're supposed to believe are good enough yet again having zero fucking effect on the game. Subs far too late. Dogshit gameplay and tactics1
-
Get rid of Jones and roll the dice, he’s let us down recruiting his mates, half of them have injury lists longer than my arm and the other ones he just continues to play despite their mistakes.
Refuses to change a system that doesn’t fit our players and now their confidence looks shot to pieces for a lot of them. We’ve made really poor teams look good. We are seriously bad at the moment, everyone mentioning signing strikers - we don’t even create chances for them that’s the worrying thing.12 -
Owners need to dig into their pockets. We have a League One team and it’s beginning to show11
