Bell was quality and would love to see him and Ramsay on either side.

I've just remembered Barnsley away last season, this feels similar but even more of a gut punch

We equalised just as my plane was taking off and I was buzzing, just landed in Sydney and have seen the score. Could cry 😂
  • There is no confidence/quality through each third of the field and in fairness, despite our great start to the season it’s been abundantly clear since August.

None of our defenders have confidence in playing the ball into Coventry or any of our midfielders and then as a consequence we resort to hoofball without any runners off of Leaburn (should he put the header into those areas).

JRC was a bit more positive in that regard this evening and you can tell there is Championship quality there, coming short to receive the ball and then give-and-go.

Needless to say, this is fundamental basics in football and not something we should be pining for.

Realistically we need to obtain a ball-playing midfielder immediately to regain that confidence in the middle of the park and then hopefully we can start to create.

Oh, and as soon as Joshy Edwards can come back, that would be great.

Still feel our best 11 (at the moment) is: Kaminski(!); Edwards, Bell, Jones, Ramsey; Apter, Coventry, Rankin-Costello/Docherty, Carey, Campbell; Kelman.

Fucking shit. sick of this shit formation and sick of these shit changes he makes every week.  He plays 5-3-2 and we start the season with one left wing back no right wing backs of our own.
How the fuck have we just lost to the shittest team in the league.  Fucking pathetic

Can’t be bothered to analyse it anymore!

No tactical nouse, bugger all leadership and absolutely nothing creative spark.
Stark deficiencies have stuck around for months, with no change - 1-1 would have covered over cracks.

Relegation form, and losing to Relegation scrap competition only leads to …RELEGATION

    Time for NJ to go
    What a dick.

On a more positive note I thought JRC was brilliant and for the first time I’m genuinely questioning Jones decision making when it comes to player selection this season. How he hasn’t gotten a proper run out in this team is absurd.

Apter is another one who I think we have mis managed.
I can understand why he wasn’t being played as we don’t have proper cover on the left to allow him to play wingback but with how poor Bree has been we could really use his crossing abilities. I also think it was a waste of money to buy him if we’re not going to play to his strengths. He is a winger.
So is TC but it hasn’t stopped Nathan Jones playing him as a wingback or centre forward.
I don’t think we’re seeing the best out of either of them. I do think we need a proven striker at this level but the glaring issue is the lack of good quality chances being created. We have two promising young wingers who could create way more for us if given the chance to play in their proper position. Would it make us less defensively solid? Yes, but it’s not like we’re keeping clean sheets at the moment anyways and our defenders have enough quality to play in that system. I fear the great start to the season has given Jones a false sense of security in believing we just need ppl back from injury to play the system he wants when in reality I do think he should learn to adapt.

He has players playing like they are playing in a way that is imposed on them even if it's to their detriment. How would you describe it?

Bought a half decent burger on the way back to the Travelodge.
Managed to eat it when I finally picked my jaw up off the floor.

NJ suggests Ramsay injury is hamstring and "a couple of weeks".
  • Just play Apter for the whole game. Stick him wide up front, either wing. He has two great feet and can cross a ball and is a real threat to the opposition. OK defensively he is not the greatest but at the moment our crosses, corners and free kicks must be the worst in the league. 30 points before 2026 would have been brilliant so 27 is definetly good and we have a game in hand..against Portsmouth who are not the greatest. Yes absolutely gutted tonight. If I or you feel gutted just imagine how the team feels. Apter, Leaburn and Kelman up front and rely on pace to get behind the opposition back four.

Something I complained about last season before we turned our form around and we appear to have slipped back into is that we’re just way too nice. Refs are making terrible decision after terrible decision and there’s no protest from anyone, not even the player who is on the end of it most of the time. Referees are so unbelievably weak and there is a lot to be gained from getting in their ear but we seem to be the only team who don’t bother with it.
  • Pompey were awful, like Norwich were a few days back. Zero points from the two is very very poor.

Performances like today are why players like Galbraith choose to not join us, we spent most of the 90 minutes firing the ball 40 yards at Leaburn for him to be beaten time and again in the air.. the midfield continually bypassed.

Coventry heads the ball like a 12 yr old, just anywhere, and almost always to the opposition, he always slows the game with sideways and backwards passes... Yet he is out best midfielder!

TC could have caused them real issues but we played him full back and he was so deep he was wasted.  That said, when he cut in and shot wide it was just classic of him, lost count of how many times this season he's done it.. just hit the target.

We create so little, yet Knibbs now has 3 goals from minimal minutes so the strikers excuse is not really realistic.

Disappointed. Hope we bring in some quality in January.  The thought of being in the same league at Bromley is just too depressing for words.

Burke needs to be kept in bubble wrap when he’s not on the field we can’t afford for him to pick up another injury and have to rely on Gough to fill Ramsay’s shoes as solid as he was against Norwich. It’s a blessing Lloyd hasn’t picked up an injury with how many minutes he’s played this season and I pray it continues.

Really good post Athletico, especially the point about Knibbs, certain players have a knack in front of goal, the chances created tonight should have been finished before Knibbs equalised.

Sorrow drowner in hotel bar and just got back to room. Honestly can’t remember feeling that gutted for a very long time.

My god you need to have some resilience to follow this club
But you have that resilience AFKA, and you know you'll be right back up for it on New Year's Day, and then wherever you're watching against Blackburn. Season is far from over, players yet to return from injury, January window opening, there's still a lot of football to be played. Drown your sorrows tonight, and tomorrow, and fuck it, Wednesday too. Then be back up for it Thursday. We need our home form to keep us up, and that means making The Valley a place no one wants to visit (maybe even the home supporters sometimes). But I know our supporters will be up for it on New Year's day.

My bigger concern is the likes of Bell, Burke and Kaminski who have had back to back relegations. Are they up for the relegation battle ?

Counterpoint: they're used to this and won't be scared.

Counterpoint to my counterpoint: They're all 0-2.

Really fucked off now, serious questions need to be asked and changes made to system or personnel (manager included?). Needs to buck up his ideas. Can’t blame injuries when we have most of the squad fit now.

We are going down without the above, and it will be devastating for the club, if everytime we go up, we go straight back down.

Big January needed with some serious investment.

Feel good factor well and truly gone and dreading getting spanked by Coventry in a few days time.

Just really upset and sad right now and losing belief quickly.
Game against Coventry is going to be brutal. Total carnage. But my morbid curiosity will likely keep me hooked on it. Just imagine the total and utter destruction of Charlton Athletic Football Club...
    weird & not helpful.

If he's available in January worth a cheeky bid? Might save us from the drop?
Don’t put him in goal, literally holes in his hands…
He’s never been good with crosses …
The only light at the end of tonight’s dark tunnel is the cracking humour of the Charlton fan base 😂
