A must not lose that we didn't lose - as others have said, there are no easy games and away from home, if you are expecting to win you are likely going to be disappointed and some on here need to take a look at themselves - again. They gave their all as always - my only complaint is the 10 man thing - totally unnecessary. We will be okay.
When is a game a must win one then ?  Let me know & I'll do my best to be there.

Went to the game today. They were the better team from start to finish.

Not starting this again surely. When if you don't win it, your relegated - definitely a must win. We have half a season to play with more home games than away and more than half the points we need to stay up.

Please don't play Bell against Chelsea and give him a rest. We really can't afford to lose him to injury too
Play a similar side to the one that lost at Cambridge!! - Give as many of the first teamers a rest.
We wait years to get a top 6 Prem side at home in the FA Cup & then you want to play the U21's just si we can rest a few players.

    Bonkers.

I've paid £32 to watch the match....I want to see us put up a spirited attempt to win the match.
Staying in this division is worth MUCH more than a spirited performance vs Chelsea (who will have a mixed XI).
This is a game that gives us a chance to rest players but also bed one or two in and give some fitness into legs like Knibbs etc.

Going down to L1 sets the club up for a tough 5 years, something that cannot be risked imo
  • Chat about what is and isn't must win is so boring. Was an important game and a great opportunity to pick up three points, which unfortunately we let slip

First half excellent, Blackburn have got some decent players and some bang average ones. We needed Cantwell to have an off day and he stubbornly refused to do so.

Our intensity first half was where it has to be until we got fatigued which was not entirely surprising given the run of games and how hard we have to work to compete. Hope Burke is not out for long.

Miles Leaburn was immense, really showed us all what he has in his locker. Kelman very clever in his pressing and movement and I'm delighted for him getting a brace

We really missed Elvis when he went off but he was exhausted, Coventry for the first time I thought was also knackered. We need a weeks rest and recovery and some reinforcements

Burke going off completely changed things for us.
He's a solid player but his inability to consistently put a run of games together could cost us big time from here on in.
Gilesphey really isn't an able replacement and that needs to be addressed ASAP.
We really struggle to exert sustained periods of pressure on teams. Understandable when we are away but at home is no better.
I'm going to rename Connor C the handbrake. With options in attacking positions left or right he almost always turns the ball backwards.
Campbell troubles no-one when in or around the opposition box.
Leaburn was immense until he went off..
It's puzzling because the things we are doing are so opposite to what you would normally expect from a Jones side?
I suppose it was a good point but we won't play many teams worse than that in their own back garden.

Also, sorry haven't read the whole thing yet, but what was with the shrugs NJ gave to the away end at FT? It looked remarkably like a "a points a point" not particularly fussed gesture, which is really unlike him? Not seen the post match interview yet either but if he says the performance was excellent/outstanding again then I must be blind...
But he can get snippy with the fans. He did last year after our Crawley defeat. And he has a point. (Literally as well. Haha).

I didn't see the game but I can tell by the scores on the doors, everyone's got the raving hump after conceding a 2 goal lead.
We are suffering from not having Josh  Edwards fit even though I'm sure he is a week nearer to being fit from last week !(Standard answer from Nathan) Obviously Kayne Ramsey is desperately needed as Burke is injury prone.

Big pile in on Macca and Carey.
Credit doesn't last long at Charlton when you can score the winning goal at Wembley and play well at first when you finally get a game but suddenly he has looked Shaky in his last few appearances and struggled.

The Ginger Genius is knackered after shagging so many
of your wives. It's no good now saying you regret the invitation you gave to Carey !

A Desmond is gutting after being 2 up but it sounds like a fair result between two bottom 6 clubs.

Big shout out to Charlie Kelman who did his Job today with a brace; shame others struggled to do theirs.

It‘s no wonder Coventry looked knackered, is it? He had played every minute of this ridiculous period of games, three of the four being away games with all the associated travel. As Louis Mendez said to Rich Crawley, “we’re knackered with all the travel, and we just watch the games”.

The administration of English football is absolute shit. Its about time we knew the names of the top people in the relevant organisations who create these ridiculous fixture lists, and other crap like the added time pot luck or the linos who are apparently told to ignore blatant fouls right in front of their eyes. They deserve to share the load of criticism from fans which currently goes 100% to players and managers, because they are the visible ones.

EDIT: this rant was prompted by NJ’s own, questioning whether other clubs have had the same imbalance of home/away fixtures. He’s right, as it turns out. We have played 14 away games, whereas Pompey have played only 11, and they were due at home today. That should not happen. It is not fair on clubs or the fans. Those responsible should be named and held to account.

A bit of context to these results. 3 out of 4 away fixtures, Championship away fixtures are very tough not matter where the teams we play are in the table, we are a prime case in point. Before these were played I would have been happy with 4 points. We’ve picked up two. Teams around us have struggled too. All we want to do is beat the drop this year, I think some fans have got carried away. Jones needs some help with recruits, we’re working hard in the situation we are in and are scrapping.
You make very valid points including where teams may be in the table when we play them isn’t that relevant. BUT the results from the last two away games  have to be taken into context of the position within the game whilst being played. At Pompey we clawed our way back into it, then immediately switched off and so gave away a vital point. Today, against a poor Blackburn side, we are two up and can’t see the game out and drop two points. It’s no wonder people are frustrated. In addition it’s be plain to see from previous games that a TC/Gilly combo is a disaster waiting to happen. Yet that’s what NJ opted for when offer options are available.

For me it does beg the question of why is Gough on the bench when he can’t come on and replace an injured player when needed? He’s not going to gain experience if he doesn’t play. Two, how shit must Rousillon be if he can’t get a minute in the position he was signed for.

I still think we will be ok but a LWB before the Sheffield Utd game is an absolute must.

All been said really. When NJ brought on Gillesphey I just knew we would draw or even lose. Not entirely his fault, he knows he hasn't got the pace to deal with a winger and can only play with a true wingback to his left...but his passing was also dreadful, he gave the ball away so many times in dangerous positions. He also seemed to cause the whole backline to panic.

Leaburn and Kelman again showing promising signs together.

JRC not as dynamic as his previous two performances, hopefully down to fatigue. Berry had a a few nice touches in the first half but overall did little to justify his inclusion.

I think Bree was "okay" defensively and it was his cross that led to the first goal but his set pieces continue to be appalling.

Really need a proper left wing back and some more defensive cover in general. Today was incredibly frustrating but fill the defensive gaps and we're not far off being a decent team.

Two points thrown away (and a point gifted to a promotion rival) because of N Jones' bungling and favouritism.

Yes, I know he did great last season in League One. But that was because he is a League One manager. He does not have the sophistication for the Championship. His only strategy is to drag teams down to our level. It worked quite well for a bit until managers got wise to it.

Today crystallised thoughts l've had for a while about Nathan Jones. Not calling for him to go - to be honest l don't think a new manager would be able to get a tune out of these players, largely put together to play a Nathan Jones way. Add the instability of change and credit in the bank for getting us up, he deserves to see the season out at least. But there is a massive issue with his poor decision-making. Playing Burke 3 times in 6 days with his long history of injuries was madness, and inevitably he goes down with yet another injury. Not putting Gough on to retain the defensive balance - Gough was deemed good enough to start the Norwich game, don't forget - and exposing Gillesphey and TC down the left with all too predictable results, was shockingly poor. The messy, confusing subs, again exposed today. Not using Fullah/Apter against a youngish Blackburn team clearly lacking in confidence. I could go on. So l think there is an issue around not only Jones but the people around him on the bench, who either don't or can't influence him enough. I suspect Jones is a 'my way or highway' kind of guy, which is fine when you're getting good results, a liability where you're not. Like now for us. And is why he got drummed out of Stoke and Southampton so quick. So that needs to change - maybe some fresh, experienced coaching voices brought in 'to help', otherwise we will go down on current trajectory. And signing known crocks was never going to end well. Which makes me wonder if that's why Abbott checked out, and had to take the highway...

Think most would’ve taken a point before the game.

If we can get a win against either Sheffield or Derby doesn’t look like a bad block of 4 games points wise.

Love Macca for the play off final but he’s got to go now. Same as Bez and Doc, we need proper championship quality.

Agreed, we seem to be permanently on the road, that's how it's felt, anyway. All those back to back aways, as well.

Finally (!!) it's our turn - we now have a very favourable couple of months until Boro away on March 11th.

If we assume Millwall away as not travelling, we don't have to travel for 8 of the next 11 games, and the ones we do have to travel to aren't missions either; Leicester, Southampton, West Brom.

I actually don’t know what the best thing to do against Chelsea is. Their interim manager won’t want to risk a cup upset on his CV so is likely to pick a stronger team than if Maresca was still there. I don’t really want us to risk any of our key players but if we get absolutely battered I worry about what that will do for confidence. Tricky one.

I genuinely reckon, I spoke to 50 Charlton fans today at the game, maybe more, not one of them said they'd be happy with a point, and most said it was a must win (35+ maybe) and the rest a not lose.

My poll on twitter with over 150 votes returned it as a 76% must win/6 pointer.

I think it's insanity to be happy with/ taken draw in the circumstances, especially with how it happened being 2 up.

Anyway, on to the next free hit/must win/ must not lose/ doesn't matter that much as we are 4-7 points safe / we are lucky to be here so enjoy the moment.

Totally agree Prague but what chance is there of holding these people to account, most of them have never played the game at any level probably spent most of their holiday at home with their families. You may know better than me how much input the clubs have on the fixture list but it's time the clubs in the EFL started to demand a say. I honestly feel that the EFL could lose their top division to a better offer from the Premier with a reduction in the number of clubs, 46 games in this standard is simply ridiculous and if nobody has bothered to tell the EFL, a lot of supporters are struggling to pay their energy bills let alone spend £100's on eight games in a month.

Brother, for the last time - these are not the same thing!!!

“Must win” implies some sort of dire consequence as a result of not achieving said win.

What was the dire consequence of today’s result? As far as I can tell, we are further away from the drop than we were before the day started.
