I've mentioned previously how things have changed in the last few years in terms of pathways available to youngsters.
In addition to the county age group squad, we now have five Regions that act as a feeder into the county side and that gives exposure to players who, in a former time, would never have been seen in action by county coaches. There are also the MCC Foundation squads - these cater for those who aren't a fixture in the county squad AND who go to a State school and who are again coached by county coaches. By definition, there are some players who might appear in both the Regional and MCC Foundation squads.
Last year, the Kent West U14s won the national MCC Foundation competition for their age group. A year on and with some of the same players, though certainly not all as some have progressed to the county side and others have come in that have impressed this year in trials, the U15s have progressed to the final at Lord's in September.
A fantastic achievement which serves to demonstrate the depth of talent in the county and that there is now an opportunity for those who go to a State school and who might previously been totally missed especially those that do develop later.6 -
I have umpired three of the regional finals recently at which West Kent represented our county, against teams from Essex, Middlesex, Surrey, and Sussex. The U13 Boys play their national knock-out games on Wednesday and the U17 Girls have theirs on Thursday.Pedro45 said:

No Muyeye but Milnes is back. One suspects that Milnes, Dudgeon and Dawkins will come in for Quinn, Evison and Muyeye respectively.Peter_G said:

One player who appears to have disappeared, so far as updates are concerned, is Senuran Muthusamy.
As we know the original intention was for him to arrive in May and to play in the CC and the Blast but then a knee injury prevented him from doing so. He was then due to be here from 1st August but I can't find any confirmation that he has arrived.
The next CC match starts in ten days time and Muthusamy hasn't played a match of any description since March. The re-signing of Mahmud means we can't play those two and Dudgeon but, perhaps, the intention is to rotate the two seamers? It would be good to get some confirmation that Muthusamy is still coming because he would offer us a real spinning option for the run in and also elongate the batting.0 -

Caleb Falconer is part of the England U19 team that took part in the WC and the recent series against SA. He has played four FC matches, one List A and three T20s for Middlesex, has a total of 203 runs to his name from 12 innings. He has yet to bowl a ball in professional cricket.
Falconer was signed at auction for £55,000. Until tonight, he hadn't played a single game in The Hundred. He was down to bat at 8 but didn't get in and didn't bowl.
If we talk about players progression then wouldn't Falconer have done better to play for the duration in the Metro? Have the likes of Dawkins, Ekansh and Jaydn benefitted more from doing so? Not to the tune of £55,000 but a short term gain like that could be a long time loss. There is no guarantee whatsoever, in fact, that he gets back into the Middlesex side following his absence.

At face value, an interesting selection and batting order. Evison has retained his place with Milnes and Dawkins coming in for Quinn and Muyeye. However, Northeast is down to open and Dawkins is at 9!!!0 -
Kai Smith is opening for Warwickshire, someone who spent his formative years at Sandwich and who, but for the fact that we had Billings, Cox and Robinson might well have been our current keeper. Lintott is also in the Warwickshire side.0

SACA has been a revelation for producing players that might otherwise have not had exposure.
21 year-old Vaansh Jani, who has just come to the crease, is one such example. He came through the Middlesex pathway but was released and SACA afforded him the opportunity to showcase his talents. He looks all class and slightly disconcerting for us, his last four innings have been 88, 33, 66* and 66*. Hope he progresses in the game. After getting out cheaply to us!2 -
