POST-MATCH THREAD: Millwall V Charlton Athletic: Saturday 24th January 2026: KO 12:30
Millwall are strong this season at the New Den having only lost one in the last ten at home and, combined with our record against them, it was always likely to be a tough afternoon. Charlton started brightly but it was Millwall that broke through first when Femi Azeez, their danger man, found himself in space on the visitors’ left and able to swing the ball into the box. On 7 minutes Kaminski parried the ball off Ramsay and into the back of the net. Attacking down the Charlton left was to become a pattern throughout, trying to expose the debutant, Luke Chambers, which was often fruitful for them.
On 12 minutes, Tyreece Campbell was outmuscled in the box but did not earn a penalty.
On 27 minutes Azeez fluffed a shot in the box when he should have done better.
Then in 36 mins Azeez found space on the Charlton right after Karoy Anderson pulled out of diving in on an opportunity to challenge, probably for the best given his earlier card. The ball was swung into acres of space but Coburn managed to conjure a miss, shooting over the bar with only Kaminski to beat.
On 38 mins. Tyreece Cambell was manhandled in the box again but nothing given.
It was all action in the first half, with Millwall coming out the better. We had moments and looked relatively more fluid in the final third than we have of late, though we have to concede that we failed to test their keeper in any meaningful way.
Ibby Fullah replaced Luke Chambers for the second half, moving Campbell back to left wingback, which would seem a mistake given the effect he had in the first going forward. Almost immediatley, space opened up for Azeez again, when he was open at the back post for a header that he couldn’t direct anywhere but off the back of Gillespie and out for a corner. The corner was taken short and ultimately resulted in a low driven shot from Azeez that went narrowly wide.
The opening minutes of the second half were all the home side. On 52 minutes, another warning for the Addicks when an Azeez header beat Kaminski but was ruled out for offside. Kaminski went down for a break that allowed Nathan Jones to readjust. Conor Coventry, Reece Burke, and Charlie Kelman were brought on for Anderson, Gillesphey, and Carey. A slight change in formation put Campbell back up front and a move to a conventional 4-4-2 to match the home side.
On 67 minutes, against a run of sustained Millwall pressure, Kelman hooked the ball over the top and into the path of Lyndon Dykes. Dykes battled Cooper and came away with only the keeper to beat as he stumbled into a shot that the keeper couldn’t direct anywhere only parry into the path of Fullah in front of an open goal. But the referee pulled play back having claimed to spot a hand ball that, in hindsight, was merely Dykes using his upper body and face to keep possession.
On 82 minutes a Millwall corner was driven to the back post by Alfie Doughty, which eluded Reece Burke and was rather easily nodded in to give the home side a comfortable 2-0 lead. Where we had a chance at one down, it was now predictably about damage control.
Of course, we also found that difficult. Right before the end of regular time the home side were awarded a penalty when Burke brought down Azeez in the box. The penalty was saved but the rebound was bundled in.
Then, only minutes later, a glancing header that Kayne Ramsay would have been better to have simply left, fell into Emakhu’s path to make it four.
Millwall were solid all afternoon and we found them mostly impossible to break down. They’d only be disappointed with not taking all their chances in front of goal.
Millwall 4 Charlton 0
Over to you.

Spineless pathetic performance from a team and management set to get relegated . Fuck them all.46

Gonna be a fun thread !
Jones being shown as a good League One manager but is authoring his own downfall with his team selection, formation and recruitment20 -
The less said about that the better really

Just need Oxford, Blackburn and Portsmouth all to lose now11

What a load of shite. I’m drinking until I can’t see/breathe tonight.21

Even I can't find a silver lining from that9

I know emotions will be running high.
But this is a wider issue than just this game.
We have 9 points from the last 14 or so games. 3 of those against a 9-man team (even if people tried to claim it was a difficult game?)
We are the worst attacking side in the league bar maybe Sheffield Wednesday. We look utterly clueless past the half-way line and have been like this for 3 months.
In January we've bought a lump up front, a half-fit LB, a replacement RB and no midfielders to improve chance creation.49 -
Just another in a long line of utterly pathetic performances since October. There are no meaningful improvements week to week, the manager appears oblivious to the alternative options available, we don’t have a significant number of injuries, and the players are weak all over the pitch. Unless something miraculous happens we are nothing more than relegation fodder this season.4

23 shots to 3. I'm sure the usual suspects will be along to somehow justify that and the performance in general11

Not sure he makes it to the end of the season now, fucking pathetic display.6

For as much waffling as Jones does on the touchline, you’d think he’d actually been trying to teach them something
They look uninterested, and completely void of confidence
I don’t care who we sign in the next week. We are not set up properly to win football matches
We all knew this would be a slog of a season and I’d still bite your hand off for 21st
But Jones and his shit management is not giving us a fighting chance16 -
Disappointed our 5 year unbeaten run against them has ended, but remember where we were 18 months ago guys!
Gary Oldman though!14 -
Absolute dogshit second half7

I fear they did, which is arguably more concerningDamoNorthStand said:Disgrace.

Incredible how bad we are without a left back. I thought we played quite well first half, although Millwall looked a quality (and better) side throughout.
Chambers to Fullah is one of the worst substitutions I have ever witnessed. I still back NJ, but he self-destructs at times.

We are going down unless large sums of money is spent and potentially a change of manager.
We are not capable of competing at this level unless everyone is fit and playing out of their skin which they were for a handful of games at the beginning of the season when other teams hadn't got up to speed.
That was atrocious - by the end they were laughing at us and our ineptitude.

Gutless.
For the first time I’m questioning Jones and the players from a tactical and desire point of view.
Called 4-0 jokingly, but it could’ve been more. Something has to change.6 -
Have stuck with Jones up until this point as this season was always going to be tough. But that..... That was embarrassing, we've been so poor for weeks, even months now! and he doesn't look like he knows how to fix it, in fact, if what we are hearing about him having arguments and falling out with players is true, then he has lost it and really needs to go4

Maybe the first time I’ve ever walked away from Millwall a bit apathetic. We aren’t in the same ballpark as them in terms of quality. They are a really solid side and have a style of play.We aren’t lost. No quality. No system. No identity. We are going down unless something changes.10
-
Expected result. We did ok first half but once we went down to four defenders they overran us.
Not sure what any manager could do with a crocked/ unfit back line. If it is not resolved soon we will deffo get relegated.
There are of course also problems in midfield and upfront, but the defence is critical.4 -
Stuck £25 on a Millwall 4-0 win. Not even ashamed to say that I cheered once the fourth went in.
I used to dread playing Millwall but now I love it. We're always going to lose so may as well make some money in the process. It’s like an infinity money cheat code.
Time to reframe this fixture from 'Oh, sh*t, 6 points lost' to 'Oh, great, I'll make a few bob that weekend then'.20 -
Thought we played ok till their 2nd goal and were always in it. Turning point was Dykes foul which we should've got. One thing noticeable was how weak our players seem to be always losing out in the tackle. Campbell in particular always falling over in the box and just plain weak.11

Bunch of absolute spineless mugs, even though we all expected to lose this game the least we ask for and deserve is some passion and for the players to give it their all. Disgusting performances from a few out there, I'm not going to dig out people like Gillesphey who aren't good enough, but I'm looking at players like Ramsay, Costello and Coventry, Burke and Kelman who were absolutely gutless all game or when they came on.
Big 10 days ahead, the board either needs to sack Jones NOW and get in a new man with enough time to get a couple of players in that they want, almost no chance of happening in this time frame, or back him to the hilt and sign 2 or 3 players to properly shore up the squad, because that left side and central midfield right now is a joke.10 -
Gutless. Spineless. Pathetic
They are a fucking total embarrassment, Millwall pricks all over my WhatsApp
time to ignore football (and my phone)for a few days I think0 -
For spells in the first half we kept the ball on the ground and looked reasonably solid. Even after conceding, we still looked like a functional Championship side.
The concern for me is that if we’d kept it at 1–0 for longer into the second half, the pressure would have started to build on Millwall. Instead, we came out after the break appallingly badly. We had no shape, and the left side looked exposed time and again, whatever the formation or player. From that moment, Millwall bossed everything .
The most worrying thing is that we looked spineless. We all knew this season would be a challenge, but you still need players with the belief and guts to keep fighting when things are stacked against you. I didn’t see that.
As an aside, I’ve no idea how the referee gave a foul against us when Dykes was clean through. The goal might have been undeserved, but it could have changed the momentum.
Right now, I’m struggling to see that Nathan Jones has the creative spark to get us out of this hole.

Bizarre that we were still in the game at 1-0 on 80 minutes. It should’ve been out of sight before then.It would be upsetting if it wasn’t so inevitable.
Focus has to be on staying up however we can.
The talk is of changing the manager - the only viable alternative to Jones right now is Gary Rowett. Or spending some money on a centre back and a midfielder.10 -
Emotions will always run high after a Derby defeat, but that 2nd half performance was embarrassing.
Not overly shocked as we never turn up against Millwall & we've been shit since November, but something needs to change....& quick11
