Conor Coady Signs On Loan From Wrexham

Conor Cody has 10 caps for England with the last one being in June '22' so he has reached a higher level that many of the comparisons being mentioned.
His football career is on the wane but let's hope he hasn't just come to London to be nearer the studios for his new football Pundit's career.
It needs to be the former and not the later.1 -
If he finds form he could genuinely be the difference between us playing Championship football next season or Charlton vs Bromley being an actual league game...1

You can see from that 5 mins or so that he has the potential to be great for the dressing room, he’s enthusiastic and eager and seems to be a natural leaderfenaddick said:9 -
Ok - with his lack of pace it is clear we will not be shifting from 3 centre backs
Jorge Costa wasn't pacey, so hopefully channels him1 -
I really want us to sign that Kenyan lad now so his first experience in English football can be Coady screaming instructions at him in rapid fire Scousefenaddick said:6 -
He’ll be the first Kenyan to say the words “football club” five times in under a minuteGarrymanilow said:

That would not surprise ,someone said think on charlton Live that JONES has been carrying a knock and really should not have played against Millwall.thetomahawkkid said:Let's hope he isn't cover for an already injured Lloyd Jones.0 -

Didn’t realise he has coached Luke Chambers and played with Lloyd Jones at Liverpool. Can’t be a bad thing!11

Seems like the plan. So in that way, surely the Collins rumour was fake?FirenzeAddick said:He's not a Gillesphey replacement, he's cover for Jones.Gillsephey is cover for Bell. Hopefully to return this weekend. As Burke is cover for Ramsay.0 -
But at the start of his career on loan to Sheffield Utd 2013/2014 he played all season in the third division also played against Charlton in FA Cup quarter final which we lost 2-0.North Lower Neil said:
He also wasn't very good for Everton or Leicester before that either.sam3110 said:I genuinely don't get the people writing him off after playing 5 games with new teammates, in a team new to the Championship, at the start of the season.0 -
Just watched the interview on the OS, certainly comes over as a confident comfortable guy, talks a good game, hopefully some of that enthusiasm manifests itself Saturday and for the rest of the season, welcome Conor...6

Not necessarily, Burke is very injury prone and Coady goes at the end of the season. So if Collins is a target, he won't have to be thrown in at the deep end but will hopefully be ready to be the cover/challenge player next season.Danny Addick said:

He seems a very likeable bloke, and he’s sounded like that whenever I’ve heard him speak on the radio. Very enthusiastic and I’m sure his leadership qualities will be invaluable. Interesting that he’s been doing some coaching at Liverpool and has worked with Chambo (not very original are players nicknames are they?). Let’s hope his legs haven’t gone and he can do a job for us on the pitch.5

I am sure Macca will help himjohnnybev1987 said:Our defence has looked poor for a while, an old head and experience. Not one to shout about, however it could be a crucial signing as long as he has people around him to cover, always organised defences well in the past so hopefully he can help.0 -
Echoing what others have said really, love his energy and the way he comes across in his interview. Only one piece of the jigsaw granted but I think he's going to be a good fit, help and coach the others and play a decent part on and off the pitch as we look and begin to compete and perform much better than we have of late.
Welcome Conor.0 -
The only question for me is whether he brings more to the team and the squad than we currently have.
Gillesphey has struggled to step up, Burke was awful last week and is a sicknote. I'd say Coady's worth the gamble, and if he can bring a little leadership to the team, which is sorely lacking at the moment (Jones can't do it all) then that will hardly harm us.
Doing nothing wasn't an option, and we all know how well he could potentially play. If he gets 75% of that standard, he'd still improve us. If he's crap, he won't be in the team long.2 -
Is he match fit, or another signing we will see little of? The other problem is that we need to protect the defence better than we have.0

Hopefully he becomes our modern day Eddie Youds!!1

Really !
I remember a young Harry Maguire steaming forward with the ball- talking to Peter Varney -Staying in Chesterfield on the Saturday night and being a bit worse than wear that the steeple looked crooked- Harriot missing a sitter- Chris Powell's last match.
But I didn't realise that two CB would go on to play for England though I did say Maguire would go on to play in the Premier league.
Bizarrely despite being bottom of the Championship we stayed up as we managed to play the 3 games a week to catch up on matches and accumulate enough points. We had a small squad but Poyet coming into the team as the fetch and carry midfielder made a difference.

He is only 32. I dont think his legs have 'gone' but I think he offers an experienced head to shut up shop. I think its a great signing0

Not sure another defensive coach / mentor is what's missing - be nice to have some ex midfielders or attackers who could maybe get into NJ's brain and remind him its not all about defending. The team can defend a lot better when the opposition have something to worry about and its as clear as night and day to me that taking TC out of the front line was the biggest reason for our tailspin. A LWB (or at least the type we have) are dogs bodies in comparison to somebody who can frighten defenders and go past people. Somehow, the player we relied upon to attack was used as a utility man to fill in at LWB. I like Jones but he got that badly wrong.iainambler said:Lots of comments that his legs have gone or going - but equally that he’s got experience and is a leader.Think we need the brains rather than the brawn right now. If he can teach his teammates to use their noggin and what leadership means we might be on to something as he can do that both on and off the pitch.1 -
Incidentally, started in the 2-0 victory at the Den earlier in the season for Wrexham.0

Please, Please ,Please rescue our season
Striker at Championship level
Midfield that does get over run
We are sinking like a stone

So, with Coady signed, and Collins Sichenje on his way, we are covered at CB until the end of the season. Just the other 10 positions to sort out now, and a whole day in which to do it.

I’m revising my prediction of Jones planned 6-3-1 formation to a 6-4-0 with two wingbacks on each side0

Cliff Holton :-) Scored the first goal I saw at The Valley in my first game, we won 1-0 against Middlesborough. It was the one & only game I attended with my DadIsawsummersplay said:His experience could be invaluable. Reminds me of other times we have brought in similar experience with the likes of Cliff Holton, Ray Crawford, Leighton Phillips and Terry Naylor, all of whom contributed to the cause and were either around the same age as Coady, or even older.
