I’m really hoping we have a decent midfielder coming in now on which we’ll spend proper money.

Conor Coady has 10 caps for England with the last one being in June '22' so he has reached a higher level that many of the comparisons being mentioned.

His football career is on the wane but let's hope he hasn't just come to London to be nearer the studios for his new football Pundit's career.

It needs to be the former and not the later.

After just hearing Jack the Leicester fan on Charlton Live, he believed that Conor spent more time as a pundit than playing football while with the Foxes.

I really want Coady to prove why he received 10 caps for England 3 1/2 years ago.

I’m easily swayed and I’m steadily moving from head to heart and by kick off Saturday I’m sure I’ll think Coady is a great signing.

🙏 let me still be thinking the same by the final whistle

I'll reserve judgement until I see him play ... but ...

... don't take him into the Museum.

You have might have to keep him in.

Surprised he managed to look so energetic in the promo shoot stuff considering how much his legs have gone.
    He's sitting down.

🔴 Conor Coady (CB) - [Wrexham - Charlton] - Loan

There is no question that Coady is a good man and a leader, which Nathan Jones will see as a positive. But Charlton need to find a way to stop conceding goals, so it’s a bold move to sign a centre-back whose best attribute has always been his passing range, and who has looked suspect defensively for a few seasons now.

Coady really has to play in the middle of a back three to compensate for his lack of pace and defensive solidity, but that’s where Lloyd Jones plays, and he’s one of the few Charlton players who absolutely should not be replaced. Despite reportedly costing Wrexham a fortune in wages, and a transfer fee to boot, Coady was bombed out by Phil Parkinson in September and hasn’t played a minute since October, after looking well short of what was needed. We predicted as much when Wrexham signed him last summer.

He’s still only 32, yet it’s hard to have faith that Coady is ready to play at a level that will oust Charlton’s best defender and satisfy his demanding manager. It may soon become apparent that he won’t be keeping up with the Joneses.

Last time we signed a player Leicester fans hated he went on to become a club legend. More of the same please Conor.

Yeah I think it's a very fair assessment. One that I get the leadership side of things but I do wonder how much he's actually going to feature when Lloyd is fit.

I genuinely don't get the people writing him off after playing 5 games with new teammates, in a team new to the Championship, at the start of the season.
He also wasn't very good for Everton or Leicester before that either.
In the premier league? And in a title winning side in the championship? Their "wasn't very good" might be just fine for us

Against that, if it's his leadership and experience that NJ was particularly keen on then him featuring as a player may not be the primary focus - more of an Andy Hughes type whose contribution on the pitch was his least valuable asset, though did a job when needed.

I look forward to the ‘only on NTT20…’ ‘typical NTT20 negativity writing him off before he’s kicked a ball’ posts….

They’re more qualified than anyone on here to make a judgement on a player. It’s literally their profession.

That doesn't make them qualified, it makes them good podcast hosts. I like NTT20, I think they're pretty even handed but they aren't 'qualified' to judge players any more than the rest of us are. I could quit my job and start a football podcast tomorrow; it would be my profession but it wouldn't make me qualified to judge a player any more than I was the day before

Yann with his failed Panenka penalty in the 2nd leg of a Playoff semi final against Marshall of Cardiff would've wound up all Leicester fans, whereas Coady played 34 games for the Foxes.
Not sure that hate would be the word but did they expect more from a guy who had 10 England caps ? Yes.

Wrexham with just 5 games before being dropped looks ominous but Conor Coady if focused on his playing career can help CAFC who are in a downward spiral where players and Supporters alike have lost confidence.

I remember Conor Coady being heralded as a great character at the last World Cup so I googled it. Here’s what I could find (https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/conor-coady-makes-same-old-28519225).

This is a great signing for an NJ team.

’Coady also believes that, despite the changes in the defence, they will get back to being solid again even though they have gone six games without a win and conceded three in their last game against Germany.

When asked about the importance of the defence, Coady said: “It’s huge, it’s huge. That’s not just something we speak about in international football.

“It’s the same every week back at your club, you are speaking about how important clean sheets are going forward and we understand that. We have looked in the past at the teams that have won tournaments and they concede very few goals.

It’s important we focus on that side of our game because that is what we have been good at. It won’t change how we approach and prepare for games. We will focus on what we need to do.”

Coady was called England’s “most important player” at the Euros despite not playing a minute in the whole tournament. There is no doubting his value to the squad as a leader, inspiration and also keeping the dressing room dynamic in check.

But Coady laughed off a question about what a “good tourist” looks like. “He’s just called me a tourist, hasn’t he?” Said Coady, looking over his own shoulder.

“I don’t think of myself as that, to be honest. I think of myself as a player who has come here to do my best to try and help as much as I possibly can. I want to push everyone.

“I’ve said it plenty of times before: what are you going to do? Come here, sit and sulk and go back to your room? Or are you going to try to push people? That is all I am going to do.

We trained and worked our socks off. Training has been great. We are trying to embrace it as much as we can. It’s up to the gaffer and the staff what we do going forward but, in terms of today, we started at 1230 and it was lovely.

"It was top drawer! We kind of embrace what is coming our way because we don’t get this chance very often back home when it is freezing cold! The gaffer will tell you about the schedule but we will embrace it as much as we can.

Bent, Young, Parker and Konchesky were all capped for England after Powell while playing for us.

Hopefully he can get a few more embraces in this season for us to inspire the lads to survival 👍

He’s already in the media. Nevermind ex-England players, is this the first professional podcaster we’ve signed?
  • Big welcome conor coady
  • Comes across really well and like a model professional in the official club interview and on cawley’s substack. Sounds like a top bloke to have in the dressing room, let’s hope he’s still got his legs.

They’ve done it professionally for over10 years, they’ve worked on sky, itv and quest. they are supremely more qualified than you or anyone on here to make a judgement on a player. Ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

I'm not certain, but blowing your own trumpet on a football pitch is probably a straight red
