Charlton fans: Try something new Jones, it’s not working

Charlton fans: No not that, something else
2 players in midfield that have barely played all season (neither of whom are midfielders) isn’t my idea of “trying something new “
What’s your idea of it then?

Docherty, Carey and Coady... Which of those isn't a Midfielder? - I mean Coady has built his career as a Centre-Back in the Premier League, but he's still very much a Defensive Midfielder as well by trade, as he's played 144 times there

    6 at the back

It’s the alternating 6-3-1 / 6-4-0 formations Jones is clearly moving towards aiming for 8-2 next season

I do love our consistency in midfield, players really getting the chance to build partnerships and understanding.

You don't think that is warranted? This lineup gets worse every time I look at it. Our tactics today are going to be keep it tight and lump it up top and hope sonny Carey can pick up the scraps of a knock down. We are playing 5 at the back with 2 defensive midfielders, one of those being a centre back.

I can't bring myself to back against us, so won't, but I'm lumping on both teams to score - no, and under 2.5 total goals.

I hate Dykes & Leaburn together. Hopefully I’m proved wrong
Hopefully Chambers and Clarke can get some decent crosses in to make use of their height.

Look at that front line on the bench...TC, Kelman & Godden...
Well thought out by Jones, we go 3-0 up in the first half and Leicester will fold completely in the second half knowing what can come on from the bench.
    In Jones I trust.

    Another utterly random line-up.

  • I've gone Charlton win and Lloyd Jones anytime scorer.

Sorry, but Coady will be in the back three with Jones and Bell, the two wing backs are Ramsay and Chambers, midfield three will be Docherty, Clarke and Carey, front two Leaburn and Dykes.
Has Clarke ever played central midfield?

Cawley said he heard Coady will play DM and a few people said the same in the last day or two.

For context I dont think we'll win today, would continue taking a draw whenever we go away from the Valley right until the end of the season - We've won twice on the road, in a tough League all season.
Instead I'd happily take a 0-0, and the confidence of clean sheet back ahead of three big games at the Valley. Course that tactic puts pressure on us to win at home, but we've still only lost four there - The biggest problem is we've kept just one clean sheet since November, when facing 11-men. The defence, especially after last week, needs a massive confidence boost

    Not enough experience mate. :D

Jones deserves to be sacked just for that line up. Coady in the midfield is crazy.

It’s really not our fault who he selects, who he sends on loan and how bizarrely he sets up the team. Fans having been hoping he’d try something new because of the form and the frankly strange formations and tactics. We are reacting to him and the team, not the other way around.

Jones is responsible not us - If it goes wrong it’s on him not the supporters

Who knows what'll happen as the Championship is such a weird league. I wouldn't be surprised if we grab a dirty 0-1 but also wouldn't be surprised if we lose 4-0. Look at the game last night, yes Derby look decent away but 0-5 against Bristol City...MADNESS

I think NJ selection is very negative, he's 100% looking to stay in the game as long as possible and maybe grab a late winner. IF we score early looking like a set piece, I don't see us countering them...we've got NO PACE with this team.

Anderson - started last few games to not even on the bench
Leaburn - an unused sub last week to staring
Doc - no even on the bench last week to starting
Coady - Hasn't played since October, starting
Fullah - Not even on the bench
Bell - missed the last three and starting (the only thing to cheer about)

Think OP has got confused because Clarke used to play in midfield (also up front) as a youth player

Don’t mind that line up, we all know Coady can pick a pass so who knows! Good to see Bell and Chambers in there, looks a bit more balanced. Kelman to nick a late winner, got to be worth a few quid!
Maybe Coady is the attacking midfielder we've all been hoping for?

Odds on a first half tactical sub for us?

Jesus lads, when will you learn not to bet on games involving us? You might as well say to the bookie "Here, have a handful of cash, I'm feeling flush!" Although at least it's not a massive accumulator.

Docherty straight back in after being bombed for 3 weeks.

    Our managers a weirdo.
It’s a wild suggestion, but could he have had a knock or some personal things outside of football going on.
No, he definitely 100% fell out with the manager. I know that for a fact. Sorry just the way it is. Don’t ask any follow up questions or how I know, just understand that I know that they fucking hate each other and actually had it out at sparrows lane. Weird he’s been picked today

At any club, if the manager and captain have had fisticuffs that is not good.  Shame on both of them if so.

People have been saying for months now that TC is much better off the bench and should always be used as an impact sub.

Now that’s actually happening people are up in arms that he’s not starting.

    This site is fucking exhausting
So is being a Charlton fan
  • I'm utterly convinced now Jones puts all the names of fit players in a hat and draws 11 names out to start.

I'd love him to prove me totally wrong but I don't think it's going to happen.

That's interesting. We definitely needed an upgrade on Coventry, both with tackling and distribution. He's not offering us the buffer he did last season. But Coady won't be able to cover half the ground.
