I've just got this feeling that come the Christmas fixture list, when Cahlobah is on his third hamstring tweek, Mwamba has his first-half-season regression, as youngsters often do, and Ouma is suspended for 8 games for roundhouse kicking a referee, we might wish we still had Doc around for one more year.
I do totally understand, though, that we can't keep everyone and when all are fit and firing he's down the pecking order now. I hope he finds a club that will love and appreciate him in the way he deserves because he's been successful here and big part of the character in the team that help deliver that success.
He's firmly on the list of ex-players that I'd buy a pint if I bumped into them in a pub.23 -

As I said earlier ask Patrice Muamba. Fit as a butcher's dogs, seemingly. Didn't stop him dropping down dead at White Hart Lane. Ask Ericsson. A failed medical doesn't have to be a muscle problem.
And he'll still, I assume, have the same agent, especially if it's a family member. Do you think NJ and Rodwell will forget about the past difficulties?

Midfield is the potentially weakest part of the team:
Chalobah is real class, but his body could fail him at any time.
Edwards has been out for ever. No guarantee he will be as good, and he now needs to be better because up a level.
Mwamba has great potential, but NJ is using him sparingly, and rightly so.
Coventry is proven reliable League One class. His last two games have been very good but that may be his ceiling.
Ouma is a punt. Could turn out well. Could turn out to be too much of a maverick for the Championship. And will take time to know which.
Gough looks promising but has gone for a year. (I think CM will be his position, to replace Coventry).
Fullah looks at least one season from being ready.
Carey has some use, but not a good team player. Just does his own thing. I suspect not receptive to coaching because two years have gone and he is still making exactly the same mistakes. He is close on 26, so unlikely to change.
The rest are not Championship standard and never will be:
Apter
Rankin-Costello
Docherty
Knibbs
Self-harming that NJ has added Alli to that batch.
The worry is that Dobson may not be as good as he was. I only watched him in two full matches towards the end of last season and he looked very good. I think most clubs would want to hang on to him, but Wrexham are hell-bent on upgrading their squad every season.
We need four reliable midfield starters and two good back-ups. We do not have them at present.
I do not expect Dobson to join, simply because we have run out of time. Only chance would be if we already had moves lined up for who needs to go and only need to press a button.2 -
This idea of a failed medical isn’t entirely correct, it’s more of a risk/reward approach. I.e is the player worth that money if they carry those risks. Hence why someone like Burke could sign even with lots of problems given it was free. Don’t know the full details of JRS but if there were injury concerns it’s that it likely makes a deal of that cost much less attractive. If the deal does eventually happen and at a lower cost then it wouldn’t be that somehow he has now passed but more that the cost is worth those risks. Agent costs factored into that assessment.10

Personally think it’s a bit of a shame if/when Docherty is off (let’s face it he will be off) from being a bit of a scapegoat, he was one of our better players towards the end of the season and we don’t really know for certain that Ouma is an upgrade, although too early to judge too harshly after the Spurs game, obviously we can’t keep everyone but I just hope in the games this season where we’re very up against it the lack of Docherty in midfield doesn’t come back to bite us3

It’s actually mental how anyone can think Doc is Championship standard, yes the bloke gives 100% but his footballing ability to pass and even ping a ball 40 yards is beyond me, thank you for everything you’ve done for the club but we move on.. we currently have better.13

As a team we’ve outgrown and moved passed Doc but as a club and its captain he holds huge value, but we can’t keep him around for just that sadlyNever went unnoticed how after a heavy defeat he’d put himself out to do media etc as well as championing everyone else in the squad on social media etc
