Probably gets a fat promotion bonus and a wage increase + a reputation of being a serial winner that would do most playerseastterrace6168 said:Macca being promoted from League One twice, must be galling that he hasn't been able to make it in The Championship and benefit from the whole promotion thing...🤦♂️2 -
Yeah and I will add to his defence that this season, he was in and around the team when we had that disastrous run over Xmas where the left wing back spot was a bit of a mess.Henry Irving said:Good signing for Bradford, if it happens.
Macca already been promoted twice from league 1, is left footed and scores a good few goals for a defender.
The mistakes where he overplayed it at the back seem to have gone, maybe because Jones didn't want him to play it out anymore, rather clear it long, something he can do well.
He was a big part of our promotion season and did well enough when called on last season even if he's probably not what we need to push on.
Someone who easily passes the "if you saw him in a pub in 10 years time would you buy him a drink?" test.
WIOTOSUltimately we need better at this level, but Gillesphey is a guy who gave 100% and never shirked from his responsibilities as a player
hope he goes on to get regular game time in a team he enjoys being part of.12 -
Not sure why that gets a LOL. I’ll be wrong if the window closes and Bell is our only LCB or we bring one in cheap cover no better than Gillesphey. No guarantees with recruitment of course but signing better than a player we sell or loan out will be the aim.Scoham said:
I can't believe we'd let Gillesphey go without a better LCB coming in. Bell's 32, had a few injuries and Gillesphey was one of our weaker squad players. It's an obvious position to upgrade.ShootersHillGuru said:Left sided centre backs are hard to find and in great demand. I’m assuming that Jones doesn’t feel that Bell can play every game and if Macca is off that we have someone lined up or he feels we can play Edwards there. Big danger in the latter is that Edwards has been injured a long time and might not be able to feature any more than Bell. I’m hoping we have a quality LCB coming in. Worrying if not.2 -

We tried to sign someone from Falkirk but he is going to WBA. I Don’t know who it was.
From an excellent source.8 -
Barney Stewart just signed for West Brom from Falkirk a few days agoValiantphil said:PWR

22 year old London born striker, got 8 in 17 last season in the SPL. Deal worth about £1.3m so you’d think he was one of the ‘cheaper’ options.Garrymanilow said:

Bloody good player…….…never should have been allowed to get away.🫤iaitch said:
Chris Perry had no problems being 5ft 9ins. Took care of Peter Crouch one evening and he's probably a foot taller.Addicksi said:I'm sure Josh would give it a go at lcb but I'd prefer someone taller than 5ft 9ins if I'm honest.5 -

At this point I'd take us swimming in a paddling pool if it means we sign a bleeding player5 -

He's injury prone when playing at LWB, NJ should never play him in that position, injury waiting to happen.CAFCsayer said:
But he wasn't, and won't be next year, he is injury prone. We either need a starter there or a top quality LWB and I think Edwards would be quality as the LCB starterCrispywood said:
get a young understudy to Bell. Ease him in 1st season get him used to the style of play intensity etc and then first team the following season. I was sitting next to Wimbledon’s Director of Football on a flight from NYC to Dallas last week (we were heading there for the England game).I asked him about Asiimwe - he said he started well, but had a really poor end to the season, and they are not interested in resigning him. Thinks he’s a league two / national league player. He talked about a few Charlton players…
He and Jackson would love to take Kanu on loan, but thinks he’ll end up somewhere else in league one who can offer better wages.Really rates Mbick, but knows they have no chance of getting him.Zero interest in Ahadme.
Wanted to sign Ramsay when he was at Harrogate but JJ wasn’t sure!!Likes Phil Chapple, “one of the good guys”.59 -

If we didn't get promoted, feels like this signing would be an albatross around the club's neck.1 -
If he’s not after Ahadme he clearly doesn’t know his stuff.Crispywood said:

I would love to know what whoever sanctioned this signing saw in the bloke to even think about it. Apart from scoring 2 goals against us obviously he always looks like a competition winnerChunes said:Themightyath2 said:Zero interest in Ahadme....

We simply need two players in every position, I remember being told last summer that we didn't need another left back to cover Edwards as Bell would be adequate enough. That turned out well didn't it?charltonbob said:

“he’s been massively unlucky during his time with us. Started really positively and then results took a dip and I think Jones used him as a bit of scapegoat. All the fans cannot fathom why he never got a run and we were not happy when he got sent on loan. And at League One, in the right team he’d be an absolute weapon. Actually, in my honest opinion, I think the right move could revive his career and bring I’ve heard a lot of your league one rivals could be in for him.”
He should’ve been ploughed with free booze as well; and the pilot should’ve been asked to reduce the oxygen in the cabin, all this filmed and the Director of Football caught on camera saying he’d be a good option for the Dons next season6 -
I do value his contribution., but he was partly responsible for the bad run. Just not good enough for the Champ.cabbles said:

Its sadly possible that Josh is a good left back but neither a good lcb or lwb in the Champ, even without the impact of his injury and time out of the game.charltonbob said:

Been an excellent player never let us down ..5 -
His injury was one of the mysteries of the season for me as it looked so innocuous at the time he even ran across to the other side of the pitch to try and take a long throw straight after the tackle where the injury happened so he obviously didn’t think it was bad at the time and for it to be a seasoning ending injury was just weirdSouthbank said:

Doesn't this happen a lot with knee injuries? The adrenaline pushes you through and then once you stop it swells and gets horrible. That thrown in probably made it a lot worseAndyG said:

Pretty sure it was ankle ligaments. Find it curious people call Edwards injury prone considering the only time he’s missed Charlton games is due to impact injuries opposed to muscular knocks like an Aneke or bell this seasonfenaddick said:

Lets face it the best way to find him a new club is to find one where we have embarrassing conpromat on the director of football and ideally the owner. I'vw net ahadme down the gym and he's a lively bloke but its not worked out for him here.cabbles said:
