    So

Ivan in for c £500K (rumoured)
Billy in for c £500K (rumoured)
Grant in for free (obvs a signing on free, who knows maybe £500K?)

A Mitchell out for say £500K
Anderson out, who knows, maybe £3-400K?
Kanu to go, who knows, maybe £750K?

IF that is broadly accurate (and it's mainly guess work but can't see it being miles out) then apart from Collins, we won't have spent a penny so far this window.

Expecting big things in the next 2-3 weeks.

Except I would expect those new players to be on higher wages. If for example the departing players were on £7k a week and the new signings are on £14k, x3, that would be an extra £1.1m of this years player budget. As transfer fees are spread over the duration of a players contract it’s not as clear cut as that. We’re still paying the percentages of Kelman’s and even Ahadme’s fees this year.
Surely the new signings, Karlan apart, won’t be on much more than the players departing? Are they really that much of a step up in quality and therefore money?
Other than Gillesphey I doubt any of the departed are earning a similar level to the players we’ve signed. Academy players signing contract extensions are going to be on much less than players in their mid-twenties that we are signing for transfer fees

In terms of outgoing it's looking like

    Alex Mitchell - Perm
    Kanu - Perm
    Anderson - Perm
Olaofe - Ideally perm, likely loan?
Apter - Ideally perm, likely loan?
    Dixon - Loan?
Asimwe - Ideally perm, likely loan?
    Docherty - Potentially sold?

    Have I missed anyone?
Lloyd Jones to West Ham :-)

The wages of the 3 coming in will be much much higher than the 3 coming out. When it comes to our playing budget that matters alongside transfer fees

3 in.  One from Scotland, one from Europe and Grant.  Outside Grant I doubt wages are huge.
7 Out.  Berry, Anderson, Gillesphy, Taylor, Dykes, Ahadme (loan), Z Mitchell (loan).  Then Kanu and A Mitchell looking likely.  Plus loanees Clarke and Coady returned to their clubs.  Our wage bill right now will be significantly lower than the one we finished the season with.

Expecting big things in the next 2-3 weeks.

Excuse me everyone if I’m completely wrong here but didn’t NJ hint at another signing after Grant before Wimbledon or have I completely made that up? 😂

He did hint, basically if everything goes smoothly then there would be another. Hopefully Anderson going and Mitchell sorts it out

I wouldn't get your hopes up, my expectations for this season are so low as I don't want to be disappointed. 21st would be a huge achievement.

You've got bang average sides in this league essentially splunking our last seasons whole transer budget on one player more or less.

I can't see us spending many fees and if we do, I think they'll be in the 500k to 2 million region, which is fine if they're the right player. But people mentioning the likes of Mills and Brian De Keersmaecker are pissing in the wind imo, we can't compete with established Championship sides who will be after them as well.

We are well up against it this coming season, I just hope the owners are paying attention to the strength of the league now compared to last season.

Who are these ‘bang average sides in this league essentially splunking our last seasons whole transfer budget on one player more or less’?

Now last seasons transfer budget, not inc Collins which was from this seasons budget, was let’s conservatively say 9m. Which bang average club has spunked that on one player? Lankshear, and he hasn’t signed yet, but Boro are not bang average and not withstanding they are getting 20m from Rogers sale. Southampton paid about 10m for Dobbin and again they are not bang average. The only outlier is Galbraith to Stoke I suppose but I don’t think one transfer backs up your statement.

It's a bit hyperbolic but Preston spending £6m on Alfie Devine kind of fits that bill

Probally referring to Stoke paying 9 million for Gabraitg from Swansea as one example and Bristol City spending what is believed to be 5 million on the lad Laurent Tolaj from Plymouth

    Cheers gents.

I am of course referring to Stoke, Preston and Bristol City. Bang average sides that are pure gatekeeper teams in this league (respectfully, I wish we were them) and their spend on one player will probably match our budget this season and in some cases, last seasons.

Of course Boro don't fit that bill, but they're still in the same league as us, and they're spending big sums. Irrespective of if that was funded by player sales.

Bookies have us down as 2nd favourites to go down. On squad strength alone, I am struggling to identify 3 squads worse than ours with the exception of the newly promoted trio, two of which I expect to be almost on par with us before the season starts.

I just think it's going to be an extremely difficult season and 21st would be a hell of an achievement imo with our circumstances. (One of the lowest spending sides in the league with a lot of league 1 players still)

Scott Fraser is available after his six month contract at Brechin City expired.
Not sure what happened with Fraser to end that far down at only 31 . Completely lost his ability or motivation
His fall off shoud be studied. Another example of a great players coming to Charlton and all of a sudden they can’t actually play football.

The difference between fighting relegation or not will be whether cov and doc are our starting cms or a different pair. It’s such a crucial part of the pitch that we can’t afford to get wrong.

Have the owners made any statements about the financial position of the club?

I heard somewhere that the club is losing a lot of money £12m+ and with the new rules in place, its difficult to see how we can add to our losses through increased costs.

Also heard that the owners are looking to get out.

Some clarity from the club would help limit

would not believe everything   you read regarding ownership and reduction of budget some people never happy to have a well run club and normal owners … and with the money they invested in this club since day one they will want to see out the 5 year plan .

I hope despite not investing in the squad it’s still getting better. Edwards will be back, Knibbs will be fit, we still yet to see Sichenje properly, TC/Leaburn/Mwamba all a year older and could add much more than they did last season

Think there’s room for improvement in a lot of them. Could see Kelman and Ramsay having better seasons too, Carey’s all round game will hopefully get better, Coventry can definitely still improve too.

Stoke have always spent big, the new rules allow the Coates family to spend more, and they are now.

Joint third favs to go down. It goes Lincoln, Bolton and then us and Cardiff equal (Bet365).

The irony is that Stoke’s Championship rival fans are funding Denise Coates most weekends.

They had us down to be relegated by Xmas last season look what happened not in the bottom 3 at all ….think Pompey and Blackburn will be below us as well … think second season is tougher then the first season cause your more known now .

Can’t underestimate a second full season in the championship for these players, now they know the level. Should see improvement for some of them for sure.

We had a good start to the season which went tits up when we had no proper LB.

NJ is right. The base of the squad is good but needs some fine tuning. Tolaj could absolutely flop at Bristol as an example. We have signed 2 highly rated footballers and another with 200+ games in the championship so on paper, that isn't bad.

We would have been favourites to go down last year with Sheff Weds of course but we didn't!

See how things play out before we are written off completely.

That’s the optimistic and sensible take .  We have , however , seen most of these players play before and know their limitations.  We also know that the league is a lot stronger this year .

I fully trust Jones. But this squad as it currently is will go down, I’m confident in that. Luckily we will add more, but these next signings are really make or break for our season.

This makes me feel very slightly better. Previously was only the winner odds to go off and we're still second bottom there. But I guess they think some of the teams around us have slightly more upside (I guess they are more unknown quantities in the champ currently). Bookies get stuff wrong all the time but they base it on a lot of expertise and data, so it was concerning if they thought two of the three promoted teams had a better chance of safety than us

Oxford got relegated in their second season and were worse than their first season. It goes both ways.
