5 minutes of added time - WTF?

Stonewall penalty as well from where I was sitting.
    Ref should be investigated.
They won't be. That unfortunately, is why VAR has become necessary throughout the whole EFL. The whole thing can be funded by drawing off a negligible percentage of Premiers wealth. Championship Officials would seem no better than anything below. At least Kirkpatrick was mildely entertaining...

Lack of quality from Charlton, plenty of endeavour but very little quality. I know people give Campbell stick but all our best moments came through him, Chambers was not at it at all and Campbell and Dykes suffered through both Chambers and Clarke providing very little. Clarke's chance makes four he's missed and those misses have cost us points, he should have scored on each one. We didnt test the keeper at all and Mannion was far the busier.

Why do we think he didn't give that pen? It was in front of him. What business has the defender got grabbing Jones by the arm. Is that not a foul everywhere else on the pitch? Why isn't it a pen?

*The sun was in Mannion's eyes for the goal*

This is something I've frequently thought and occasionally posted  - around the 2 equinoxes we should be kicking to Covered End 1st half when sunny. Seriously. It's a thing.

Look at him shading his eyes in the buildup and look at the length - and direction -of shadows on all players. He reacts late as the sun messed with him due to him looking right at it when the player shoots.

We need to be smarter about the choice of which way to kick and not always go for CE in 2nd half.

Could have lost by more but could also have taken a point. A weird one.

midfield and forward line needs an overhaul next season because we will go down if we don’t.

    Ref was a wanker
This midfield and forward line has contributed to what looks like us staying up, so I think that's a bit extreme.

A game that highlights our attacking limitations.

Norwich are very comfortable on the ball and they move it around quickly.  That’s what we need to work on if we’re not going to have another huff and puff season scrapping at the bottom.

The midfield three got overrun and the lack of pace in there needs addressing next season.  Doc & Coventry work hard, and Carey has chipped in with a good return of goals, but we need to strengthen in this position in the summer.

Campbell had a very poor game and as the season has gone on, I think he’s finding it harder and harder to make the step up.  I think he’s worth keeping around next year, but he’s a sub at best.

2 week break now.  Be a good chance for some of the players to get a rest and hopefully get right up for Bristol City.  We need this final win as soon as possible

Must admit I think Kelman should have started today... Hopefully Nathan will make changes in two weeks as we need to be on the front foot from the beginning of the game, not after 70 minutes!

An erudite observation.... write to the club. They need to know...

Could and probably should have got a point today. Norwich have some good players and thought McLean was excellent. Yes they could have scored more but we had our chances too.

Ref a joke again. Letting them blatantly waste time and adding only 5 mins. Stonewall pen too.

A special mention for some of our own fans. Booing your own player at the first opportunity takes a particular type of moron. Campbell frustrates but he also created some big chances today. People just cannot wait to jump on him at the moment.

Didn't get going at all in the first half and were deservedly behind. Managed to get a bit of rhythm going 2nd half but shit refereeing and the gamesmanship of Norwich managed to thwart any momentum we managed to build. Got better after Leaburn came on and TC looked more threatening coming from wide than he had playing down the middle.

Taking Cov off for Fev lost us control of CM and the game got more open. A few decent chances and we were definitely deserving of a goal all things considered across the game. But just couldn't quite get it to land for us.

Ended up with Carey at LWB which is fairly insane.

I was ohh so desperate to grab a late one and give it to the noncey yellow pricks.

Entertaining game. Can't grumble too much at the result, they were the better side. Felt we had a bit of luck in defending as several times they messed up after doing the hard bit. Didn't feel like we got any luck at the other end of the pitch though, the ball never seemed to run our way. Much preferred the finishing XI to the starting XI.

A word on the goalkeepers. I thought Mannion was superb. It must have been really tough having to sit and watch the first half of the season, not knowing if he'd get a chance or not. But he bided his time and when he got the chance has really made that shirt his own. At the other end of the pitch, I'd like to congratulate Mr Kovačević for his entertaining looks. Imagine if the V for Vendetta mask had been modelled on the face of Jimmy Hill and then grafted onto a goalkeeper. Superb!
  • That wasn't the performance of a team going down.

Hit the bar. Had one or two goal-bound shots well blocked. Cast iron penalty ignored. Their goal was struck as sweetly as can be.

Firstly gave them too much respect 1st half, another ref oblivious to time wasting with just the 5mins, the pen looked stonewall, if one game emphasises that TC should be a winger and nothing else that was it, when he was put out wide he had an effect on the game, before that he was abysmal, please NJ give up on that experiment we all saw why with our own eyes today. We gave ourselves 45mins to get a result today and failed.

Disappointing result, but with Pompey & Oxford both losing and Leicester failing to win, no great harm done. One more win from here should see us safe.
  • I don't hate on TC and there is an irrational hatred of him in parts of the stand around me, but it's clear he is not a striker and I do t understand why Jones persists with trying to make him one. When he moved out to left in the second half with Leaburn up front he was instantly more comfortable and looked better. I think it's one of those where we either change our play to accommodate wingers like TC and Apter, or we shift them on.

I’m sure whenever we are winning a game, away teams get about 8 mins added time. When we are chasing a game we never get more than 5 minutes.

It wasn't just about today and is a general point but it is pathetic how refs have lost control of the defensive holding for set pieces. Refs have ruined the game over the last few years. That is why you have to have VAR. They are just unable to officiate games properly, well a lot of them aren't.

Agreed on TC. I'm a fan of his and think he offers a lot that we don't have from anyone else in the squad. I think a lot of the criticism of him has been unfair, particularly the ridiculous idea that he is lazy. But of late he has really struggled up top in a front 2. It's worked in away games against some of the better teams (see Boro and Southampton) where we are accepting we just aren't gonna have much of the ball and his presence on the pitch means their defence are scared of his pace and it just buys us a little bit more space as they sit deeper. But in games where we are actually wanting to compete he hasn't been good enough. Much better attacking from wide areas rather than starting centrally. Changing from the hybrid winger-striker role to a pure striker role has not helped him.

I think he's also lacking confidence as his touch and decision making is far from its best at the moment.

Not concerned, no major damage from teams below. We will pick up the necessary points.

To win games you have to score goals. To win games you have to generally have a penalty box sniffer. We leave ours on the bench with 4 mins to go.

Jones this defeat is solely down to you. Campbell should be a sub and given a cameo with 20 minutes left. Totally useless last few games.

Special praise to the ref for another incompetent display. The hold up near he end was almost 3 mins alone, booked their player for time wasting and in true poor standard of the refs in this division gave 5 mins instead of at least 8.

Hope we get a chance to wipe their smug faces off. But that's down to our tight fisted owners who rather have a glamour ground than a decent football team.
  • We were poor for most of the game but could easily have got a point. Mannion played well.

A weak ref who let far too much go. 5 minutes injury time was laughable given all the time wasting.

For those who didnt see this on the match thread (and now updated to take into account today's match), these are our scoring stats over 39 matches -

    Not scored     -  10 times   -  25.64%
    Scored once  -  24 times    -  61.54%
    Scored twice  -  3 times      - 7.69%
    Scored thrice  -  2 times     -  5.13%

So you can take from that we score in around 75% of matches, but less than 13% of games do we score more than once.

We seem to set up NOT to concede, but by doing so we are set up NOT to score. If we do concede then we dont win, and invariably only get a point if we don't concede again.

It's one of the reasons I don't go anymore. To me its not football as I know it. In the "old days" (70's, 80's & 90's) both teams went out to win the match. There was excitement, goalmouth action and, usually, goals.

There have been many posts on here recently saying lets wait until the summer & see what the recruitment brings. I agree.......but I just dont see enough money being spent on enough players to be able to change things. Yes, enough will probably be spent to keep us viable & a bottom half team, but will that bring excitement or just more of the same dont lose mentality.

Have to agree with this, quite possibly just simply one of those days where it just goes a bit pear shaped. We've played worse than that and got at least a point - maybe after our latest run of decent results its just the clichéd old "bridge too far" today.

No need to panic yet. Other results did us a favour so hopefully we can move on and start thinking upwards and forwards again.

I don’t know why jones has abandoned his “first shift, second shift” from earlier in the season when on 60 mins two new strikers come on. Felt that would’ve worked today. Gotta laugh when we chanted for Kelman he immediately puts on Leaburn. Our two most “creative” or wild card players in Rankin Costello and Kelman not being introduced until 87th was really shameful. We really need to be able to hit a barn door next season if we’re going to progress.

Norwich are a very good side now, I think, like sheff Utd, they’ll be there next season.

Ref didn’t really have much of a clue but probably didn’t help his linesman was half blind.
