At the game. For what it's worth with my eyesight.
Rough day. The massive groan that went round The Rose when Millwall scored seemed to set the tone for the day.
First ten minutes dreadful. The let off from the post in about the second minute obviously not enough of a warning. Possibly the most lethargic performance I've seen this season.
We did improve, but the more we improved the worse the referee got. That really was playing against twelve men. Ref seemed to be giving decisions and stopping play at random. Bristol were no great shakes I thought. Our poor performance flattered them today imo.
Couldn't see properly what happened for their second. I saw Mannion fumble it once but don't know what happened after that? He made plenty of good, confident blocks and saves prior to that, so no need to go swapping keepers again just yet I think.
Can't understand the shit given to TC. For the most part, he did his job well today. Bit of a miss, but so did others. I wouldn't be surprised if he puts in for a transfer. I wouldn't take that kind of shit when I'm far from the worst performer.
Overall, it should be possible to give both teams zero points for a game like that..... On to Watford. It may decide if I shell out for the day trip for PNE.8 -

We pass backward, because we cannot pa's accurately and we have no one who can control the ball and run through the centre of midfield, they did.PragueAddick said:
He has got to stop fstal backward passes which let the oppo break just when we are on the front foot. When he did it today it was only a typical Ramsey saving tackle stopped a 3rd. The trouble is he has done that nearly every game, which is something when you consider he usually is on for no more thsn 30 mins. At this level consistency is vital.ct_addick said:What has JRC got to do to get a game….NJ tactics are pissing me off…fucking go for it at home and play someone who passes the ball forward….
And as for the idea we should start Fevrier at left back….FFS.2 -

Strange. I was watching this afternoon and exactly the same thought went through my mind. A horrendous run of results saw us eventually relegated that season after we were relatively safe with about 7 or 8 games to go. Sound familiar?msomerton said:We are far from safe from relegation, what ever the Charlton live lot believe. Collapses happen, as some one reminded me about, 1971/72 season when we were first relegated to the 3rd division.
Actually I don't think we will go down. If we can fluke a win somewhere like at Middlesbrough that will probably be enough, particularly with a game at Sheff Wed to come.
That said, and I only saw the second half, I was far from impressed today. You can't miss the gilt edge chances Carey, Campbell and Godden had and expect to get anything out of the game.
A quick word on the ref. Another absolute clueless ****. Gave so many soft free kicks to Bristol City it was embarrassing.
Jones needs to shake things up on Monday big time. To play the same team again would be the definition of madness.5 -
I would say that given our situation of still looking over our shoulder but so so close to survival. That was as a complete Charltonesque performance as you can get. Provided we make it, this summer is gigantic in terms of transfer business. It’s not a few tweaks and upgrades that’s required. It really is a complete overhaul. Anything less and I’m saying we’re in bother again.5

Godden didn't miss from a yard out, the keeper saved a goal bound shot ffs !!!PeaksAndValleys said:Another frustrating and disappointing game. We looked completely asleep for the first fifteen, so open. Got a bit better from there but if Jones has an off day it's a real problem for us.
As so often the case the midfield looked so overrun both in and out of possession. Acres of space for BC to run through and then when our defence have the ball there is no one within fifty yards ahead of them - not surprising they then pass it sideways before hoofing it.
Absolute shocker from Mannion, don't see how anyone can try to defend that. Kam has had his share too but if you give Mannion a pass today you're just biased.
Similarly, others have said it but the hammering TC gets compared to other misses is just the clearest example of the unfair bullsh*t that is directed at him. Matt Godden is a outright striker who specialises in poaching and he's missed from a yard out. He's one of my favourite players but anyone talking about TC and not mentioning that is a moron.
Thought we looked much better in the 4-2-3-1, obviously BC were sitting back and defending then but even so I'd like to see us try that from the off.
Ibby looked class and Fevs and TC were also dangerous on the wings
TC's effort was high, wide & not very handsome.
I'm all for not bashing TC but at least tell it how it was6 -
They all work hard but none have the ability at Championship level yet. Little composure or passing ability.Only stage one of building a championship team.3

Well if we don't and we come to our last 2 home matches (Ipswich & Hull) still needing a couple of points then the atmosphere could become very hostile if we are yet again chasing a game when other teams around us are picking up points..crookester said:I wouldn't be surprised if we get most of our points in the remaining away games, where the teams and their fans will expect to turn us over. I'm devastated by that performance against a genuine mid table team
We gave away so many chances for the opposition to score early in the game - and even in our 'good' phase we still left acres of space at the back for them to operate in.
I just hope and pray we get over the line. I think the players are an honest bunch, they deserve to maintain Championship status on sheer hard work and endeavour, but at the end of the day, we have a league one squad getting exposed at the tail end of the season.9 -
This wound me up no end. As soon as Mannion gave Bell the ball for him and Chambers to have a little fuck about with, 2 city players kept pushing up on them and we invariably gave the ball away. Braindead.msomerton said:Why did we at the start of the second half, insist on trying to play the ball from our box, twice in what 5 Mins we tried that and ended up under the cosh. We handed them the initiative by doing that. They should know they useless at playing the ball out.
Well that was one of the three draws I predicted we would get this month, so now looking like only one or two points for the month.2 -
Last 15 minutes or so were entertaining when it resembled more of a basketball match but by then Bristol City could easily have been out of sight. Charlton were overrun in midfield and giving away needless free kicks ultimately proved decisive. Today too many players gave below par performances.0

Remember when you said you enjoy winding our fans up when we lose? Is that what's happening now... because that can't be a serious take.golfaddick said:

We have to replace players like TC next season. We done well to stay up but if we gonna kick on we need to get better quality all over.

Can't see how this is a meaningful comparison... only Charlton now with Charlton then. Surely the comparison should be the "gap" between 17th and 22nd? Then five points, with six games to play... Now eight points with six games to play. Still looks like poo-poo time....MrBurns said:After 40 games last time we were in the championship. We are 2 points better off

He does negative really well..... Doesn't bode too well.... Only 5 times in 40 games have Charlton scored more than once.Redshift said:We were really bad. The ref and the (East Stand) Lino were atrocious. But we have had a long break, playing a mid-table team that's just lost its manager and on a bad run... and we play a totally defensive team that sometimes had six at the back. How? Chambers added nothing and goes back the whole time - more than once has he looked like what he is, a boy on the pitch. A win today and we would have had safety, so go for it. A very poor performance but for me that loss is down to Nathan for being so negative on a day to go out and take it all on. We were on top for the last 15-10 (despite some breakaways) and why? Because we had a team shape that went for it. Though even then two golden chances went begging. That negativity has to change for Preston.0 -

Enjoyed seeing Doc take on and dribble past 4 players, but unfortunately only had Mannion to beat at that point!
Jokes aside, I don't think Ramsay or Clarke are too clever in getting into space to help a teammate make a simple pass.5 -

Lloyd J looked a shadow of himself, Doc and Carey, Coventry, were poor and looked like L1 players.
City played through us almost at will. The miss by TC was terrible.
Poor around really.
Officiating not just poor but absolutely shambolic.

Lyndon Dykes won motm in the lounge and he had a quick stop to watch his goal on Sky as he passed through .

Absolutely terrible performance.
Over the past two months the difference between the abilities our players and the opposition is immense.
Basically we are a League 1 team playing in the Championship. We are second best in every department and way out of our depth.
If we survive we need to make some big decisions in the close season.15 -
International breaks - don't you just luv em?!? Every time we play after a prolonged break we look lethargic and leggy. Maybe it's because our reggae boys spending days flying across the Atlantic and back, or Dykes running himself into the ground for Scotland. I don't know, but the effort and enthusiasm NJ expects from his sides is very much lacking on the return from the international break. The first 15 minutes today were on that embarrassment level we experienced against Pompey and Southampton. We made a makeshift City side look like world beaters, allowing them space and time on the ball in the middle and parting the ways for them to first hit a post, then score with ease. We got back into it because of the skill and perseverance of our front two but then handed the visitors two bites of the free kick cherry within a minute and poor Mannion was left looking red faced as the ball rolled over the line. Chasing the game we created chances but lacked the finishing, not helped by a ref who sort of lost his way a bit as the game progressed. We know that NJ can get this team playing at a high tempo again and get the points we need. I just hope these points come sooner rather than looking for them in the last couple of games this season.8

Really frustrating today. We weren’t very good but City were begging us to attack and capitalise on their weakness and we just didn’t. We should have won that game let alone losing it. Their first goal was always coming because we seemed to have absolutely no midfield today and it says a lot about how crap City were that they didn’t just keep pushing the ball through the middle. They stepped off after they scored and Kelman and Dykes linked up well off what I thought was definitely a City throw in. I thought the free kick given for their goal was also soft but something has to be said about the mess Mannion made for the winner because he’s made three handling errors in about 5 seconds and cost us the game in the end. Absolutely atrocious bit of keeping that, Yohann Thuram-esque. After that we had a million chances to score, a big one for TC, two for Godden, one for Carey, good saves against JRC and Fullah and plenty of balls in the box where any deflection would have carried it in but we couldn’t make the most of it.Coventry had a really poor game and we should have gone with Coady to try and get that control in the middle. Too often there was a huge gap in the middle and we really need to address the midfield in the summer. Nathan Jones was right to spot that City were vulnerable out wide but should have made that change at half time and it should have been Campbell and Fevrier. TC worried them and Fevrier was completely unplayable, we just didn’t get the ball to him anywhere near enough. Dykes was very good as usual and would have benefited from more time with wingers running off him instead of just Kelman and a very out of sorts Clarke. Lloyd Jones was terrible, Bell and Ramsay both looked shaky and Chambers was anonymous. Annoying day all round. Also Bristol City’s fans are some of the worst I’ve see this season, absolutely miserable whiners even when they were winning. Didn’t seem like they had any fun at all1

Three things that stood out for me -Campbells shot that wasn’t even on target
Referees abysmal performance
Rankin-Costello needs to start next game1 -
I worry the squad may think they’re safe already. Hopefully today is a wake up call.BexhillAddick said:In typical Charlton fashion we are making extremely hard work of staying up. We are a very poor team and so inconsistent. We can't score more than one goal in a game and our midfield gets overrun too easily. Why on earth does Coventry play so deep. We have 3 decent centre backs for gods sake! After the awful game against Norwich we should have made some changes. Why can't JRC get a start and why is Carey undroppable. Today was on Jones. His tactics are shite and he is so one dimensional in his approach.
... And yes, I am really upset tonight and very worried that it will all fall apart. If we don't get a reaction against Watford (no chance) then I fear the worse.3 -
Once again we were just too bloody slow out of the blocks, and surprise surprise we are a goal down before realising it, and starting to actually try and get into the game, in truth they should have been 1-0 up before they scored. We look as if we feel we are safe and on the beach already, let's hope we actually wake up to reality soon starting Monday at Watford, because we are currently sleep walking into oblivion if we carry on like today.
Let's face it, we were lucky to get a throw in that was clearly for them which lead to the equaliser, however Dykes and Kelman linked up beautifully to create the opening, and was well taken by Dykes. But the less said about the winner we gifted them the better, with Mannion playing like an amateur totally fumbling a soft free kick...not once, but twice and letting the ball dribble six inches over the line, laughable if it hadn't been so fu*kin annoying.
Anyway, on we go to Watford Monday in the hope of actually turning up, and who knows, we could even get to that 50+ point...that would be great...🙏1 -
Agree with you, Oohaaagh ........Dykes' movement and anticipation was head and shoulders above that of his team mates.oohaahmortimer said:Lyndon Dykes won motm in the lounge and he had a quick stop to watch his goal on Sky as he passed through .
