The experienced 27-year old arrives at The Valley on a two-year deal, making a return to the club where he began his career as a youngster.

Sidcup-born McNamara joined Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s Advance Centre at the age of seven and was picked up by the Addicks academy where he remained until the age of 14.

Speaking after putting pen to paper in SE7, McNamara said: "I’m absolutely delighted to get it done. I started my career here when I was really young, so it holds a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to get going again.

"I know how big of a club Charlton are. I’ve got a lot of family and friends who are Charlton fans - it’s a great community and I’m delighted to be a part of it.

"As soon as I met the manager, I knew it was the right place for me. The ambitions of the club and what he wants to build is very exciting and I want to be a part of that."

His new boss Jones added: "We’re really delighted to add Danny to our ranks. He’s someone that’s got massive experience of the Championship and knows what it takes to win games. He adds real competition to the right-back area. He’s an impressive individual in that he’s a winner, and he wants to achieve - we need those type of characters here. As a character, as an athlete, as a player we’re delighted to have him with us and I’m looking forward to working with him."

Happy with that if it’s back up right back to Kayne Ramsay. Not so happy if that’s our replacement so hopefully Kayne is staying

Not a bad signing at all also would be funny if he scored the winner at the den. Good luck DM.

Quotes on Cawley's substack are good - he obviously has a lot of respect for Nathan Jones. His versatility will be useful as well.

Hopefully doesn't point to Ramsay going but we're short at RB anyway so I don't see why it should do.

Checked You Tube, found a couple of clips where he’s basically like Cafu in a Millwall shirt, brilliant signing…… (I genuinely no nothing about him 😬)

See this as competition for Ramsay more than a replacement.

It's good competition aswell...experienced and versatile...no problem from me.

Welcome Danny...score the winner against Millwall and we will love you forever.

Bit surprised by this one, as are my Millwall supporting friends but it makes sense for the player.

I am not a huge fan of him in terms of ability. I only see it working for us if he is being brought in as a back up and if that's the case, it improves our depth. Obviously we don't know what happens with Ramsay yet.

I for one am not overly bothered by his association with Millwall; it's a business, he's a Charlton player now and I can accept that. I know some (most?) will not share those sentiments.

Good luck Danny. Hopefully he can handle the step up to a bigger club.

Feels like a back up option to Ramsay if we're planning on playing 4 at the back this season. In that case good, it's important to have all the positions covered with 2 players. That means we have Edwards and Mesik, Jones, Koumetio, Bell, Burke and Sichenje, Ramsay and McNamara. That's the defence pretty well sorted, on to the rest now

We thought Ramsay put in a stinker against them.

Wait for a hat trick of own goals and a red card from Danny

Seems like the right sort of signing we need to make to try and improve incrementally, and feels like competition rather than a replacement. Welcome Danny.

Massive Millwall fan, done his ACL in recent years, hasn't played heaps of games. Can't say I'm thrilled with this one but will remain open minded until I see him play for us

My friend's scouting report. He's a Millwall season ticket holder who is normally a very good judge of these things (although, like all of them, he did not rate Femi Azeez for the first few months after they signed him):

He tore his ACL season before last and I think we kept him on as goodwill - almost to rehab and he was pretty much third choice. He can kind of cover both sides. Not too bad defensively, but can be a little rash and pretty bad on the ball. Cannot cross to save his life.
    Sounds perfect. Welcome Danny

Huge Millwall fan who hates Charlton and average at best, not particularly happy about this one. Seems a bit of an own goal PR wise and hard to back him.

Obviously he is a huge Millwall fan but I have seen no evidence he hates Charlton.   Unless he is completely lying (and he could have phrased it differently to not lie) then Cawleys interview outlines a player that had a good experience with us previously and is separating work and personal life.  I am not a big fan of the move because of his allegiance (I would find it difficult to play against Charlton for another team) but ‘hating’ Charlton seems a bit strong.

Solid signing. Experienced championship player in a position we needed. Local lad too.
Millwall through and through but it’s a job to them. Think he’ll be good.
