  • Letting Doc go and replacing him with Ouma might be the worst decision we’ve ever done.

We are so disorganised all over the pitch, only one who comes out with any credit is the keeper. Campbell ok but other than that awful. Think skip has made a difference but not a good one.

Genuinely what does Knibbs have to do to get a game?
I'm more worried about how shit he might be, if he manages to get on the pitch. Maybe it is Jones being the stubborn idiot that he can be... But there surely has to be a reason he's being overlooked, and for me the more "logical" answer has to be down to the fact that Harvey isn't performing at a level of what is required of him in training.
I'm in the same boat FA , okay he was completely anonymous away at Spurs but how bad a trainer is he if he's not getting a look in when we need some attacking threat off the bench? Someone that I genuinely wondered if we'd sell in the last few days of the window because I just didn't see where he'd get games and I'm still not sure now.

Is this another £1.5-2m wasted on someone that won't put the effort in that NJ requires as a non negotiable?
I hope that Ouma being deployed today is a mental kick up the arse for both Knibbs / Carey
I can't see Jones being so stubborn to play Ouma simply to prove a point, and no other reason - Yet at the same time, for the good of the Football club, I hope it is a message sent to Harvey / Sonny saying: "You want to play, I need to see similar from you in training"
The Carey regression is absolutely baffling. Was that just a purple patch last season and he's regressed to the average or does he completely not fit the new formation and there's nowhere else you can crowbar him in?

There's a lot of unanswered questions that need solutions because not a lot is making sense.
  • Our inability to purchase players to contribute to our games is worrying.

Apter, Burke, Knibbs and to an extent Carey and JRC are all either out of favour or never really in favour to begin with. We’re not in a position to buy a player then the next season have them barely play.

Alli this season seems a poor signing, as dies to an extent Grant who whilst contributing is unable to play in his natural position. Chalobah and Koumetio are very good players but if we need to rely on them with the respective injury records then that too is pretty poor.

Poor use of resources and poor scouting has led to a problem which is going to cause long term issues.

What would doc bring to the team? We spent much of last season saying him and Cov worked reasonably poorly together

I think Ouma needs to be playing in the u-21s and if/when he starts to stand out at that level it might be time to introduce him via the bench. Maybe there was more time to play in the football he has been playing. You can adapt to that and maybe he can but i'm not sure throwing him to the lions is the way to get there.

And from watching that game, how on earth have we recruited the likes of Alli, Bindon and Ouma.

Alli was simply appalling today - in fact more than that, he was a liability because every time he was involved he lost the ball or simply stood and watched. A million pounds for him - Laughable!

Ouma is a dud. Full stop. Who on earth scouted him and thought he was Championship standard?

And Bindon has just been absolutely hopeless. As well as being completely inept in defence, in three of the games he has played he has been caught in possession and nearly cost us a goal each time.

    More wasted money.
    Two years in a row.

The guys played in European cup competitions. He’s obviously got something.

A couple of the passes and things today I almost thought he was use to players who would run on to them rather than playing it back or sideways

All this doom and gloom, rightly so today as we were poor and Cardiff were very good

If the refs had got it right against QPR and Pompey we’d somehow be in 2nd place

    This division is absolutely bonkers!!!

Which is even more annoying that we have put in two abject performances away from home.

It is mad to think we haven’t played too well for a while and there’s a slim chance we go into the international break in the play offs. Some competition at RB, CB and midfield will hopefully make a real difference after the international break

We over performed our stats beginning of the season. It is/wasn’t sustainable and never is.

Low possession and low xg will see you low in the table come May

Just what has Knibbs done to not even get a look in...spends almost the entire game warming up.  Carey has had a few poor games but at least he offers some threat and normally tries to drive us forward.  Both Alli and Ouma looked awful today and even Grant was misplacing passes.  Leaburn works hard but is too isolated.  Someting has got to change...
Calling for our least effective player so far this season to come back in...
Has he played many minutes at all so far. He  certainly couldn’t have been worse than witnessed today

Of course but if we hit 3/4 more purple patches like the first 3 games we’ll be safe. Obviously that’s a big if

People seem to be forgetting … let’s slag  of the normal ones but actually we started this game well and it was Jones individual error that gave Cardiff big step up in the game similar to the one given to Stoke from the pen … don’t hear anyone blaming Jones for the defeat ?? Yet it was more down to him then say Alli , Ouma etc etc … second individual error by Bindon shortly after made it a difficult game especially for those coming on later …. Ouma done pretty well today created a great chance for Grant and made us more difficult to play through our mid … which was badly outnumbered in the first half .. in fact the third goal come from AO poor kick out …

We have the exact same points after eight games this season and last.

That is decent (without the promotion bounce), but we know Charlton specialise in unique stats so fans will be jittery having gone five games without a win now. Bottom of the league, Burnley are the other team to with this same stat.

Did you listen to his post match interview?

  • After the injuries to Collins Sichenje and Billy Koumetio in the Tottenham game Jones said he was gonna hit the phones.

In come Tyler Binden and Oliver Skipp in short order and they look every inch the panic aquisitions they were.   The Coventry and Skipp partnership look like they're on permanent retreat - hardly a forward move between them and Timothy Ouma looks like our modern day Polish Pete.

Man. I'm hoping for some kind of miracle over the break.  Nathan often has a sleepover at the training ground, dunno what he does there, but he's gonna have to dream up something better than this.

Pompey and QPR both had long spells with the ball. We just don't control any game which is going to result in a long hard and tiring season
  • We had short spells where we looked dangerous, but it was much like the previous few games in that it was Leaburn and TC doing all the attacking work on their own and not receiving anywhere near enough support from those behind them.

Grant had a bit of a stinker - constantly ended possible counter-attacks by either turning into trouble or just not being fast enough to pull away. Alli fell over his own feet every time he got the ball (as usual) and is clearly not good enough at this level. Skipp made a few good tackles, but is seemingly allergic to moving the ball forward. Ouma came on and was, once again, abysmally bad in everything he did.

I know they made some mistakes today, but I really don’t think our back four are the problem. Get Koumetio and Ramsay back, while slowly building Josh up after his horrible injury, and we’ve got decent quality and depth.

It’s midfield where the issues lay. Coventry and Skipp is a pairing that’s severely lacking in the creativity necessary to initiate quick counters after winning the ball themselves (which they’re great at) or collecting the ball from our strong defensive unit (Lloyd wins every header and we never build from it). If the ball does make it to Grant, he isn’t quick enough to draw defenders with runs and doesn’t play off Leaburn’s knockdowns effectively enough.

I’d have Coventry (such an intelligent tackler and denier of space, far more progressive than Skipp) as my pivot, dropping Knibbs/JRC back to play alongside him. Both Knibbs and JRC are naturally more forward-thinking/technical, as they’re used to playing further up the pitch, while still possessing the physical attributes to compete/dominate in the busiest part of the pitch (Knibbs = height and presence, JRC = great engine and combative).

I’d then have Carey roaming in front of them. He works incredibly hard, is a fabulous at-speed ball carrier when he gets space to push forward, and proved last season he has an eye for goal from distance/when arriving late. Grant works well in tight spaces, but we should stretch the pitch to create room for midfielders to better feed Leaburn and TC. Carey can do that.

I’m still positive we have enough to avoid a relegation scrap, but there are some concerning patterns in how we’re struggling to move the ball forward. I really hope we can get everyone back to full fitness and working on some transitional tactics over this international break.

Could have scored 2 more, when Grant and Kelman both missed good chances. But could have conceded a lot more too - Cardiff looked a threat whenever they attacked and it was a mixture of good goalkeeping and sheer luck which stopped that from being an even worse scoreline.

Of the new players - Okonkwo, McNamara, Koumetio and Mesik have impressed but all of the others give cause for concern. I'm hoping they will all improve with more game time but Ouma and Alli look way out of their depth so far.
The issue is, those were are only other chances outside of the goal. We simply don't create enough to score more than 1 goal a game, 2 if we're lucky
I’m fairly sure we didn’t score more than 1 goal in over 35 games or maybe more last season. Looks like it’s the same old this season. That’s on NJ.

Would have been 6-1 without the keeper making some good saves. At some point our owners will need to pay some decent money on players to stay in this league. Getting quality players on the cheap because they are always injured is not a sustainable strategy.
That's the problem, the owners obviously didn't want to splash out on transfer fees for quality. Getting decent players in in January will be impossible.

Absolute pony, to the level of embarrassing.
It is going to be a very, very long season.
I get the fact that we are not a good passing team and cannot play through the midfield.
I get the fact that we have a low budget and have to rely on lower level players.
I even get the fact that NJ tries to set us up from the back and we are not great up front (TC aside).
But what I don't get with a NJ side is the fact that we consistently get out muscled in games. We were totally lightweight today and got beaten to every 1st and 2nd ball going.
That is my main concern going forward, given our shortage of class on the ball.
Absolutely no fight or guts in this team whatsoever and that to me is what an NJ team should have in spades to make up for our obvious lack of class on the ball.
Can't even try and blame the officials for that one either!
Concerned for this season now after a promising start.

Apologies if already mentioned as was 200 new posts, when are Big Billy and Chalobah back?

Two players that don’t get bullied and have quality, badly miss them.

We'd better hope that Burnley win at Watford first game back after the break, or you know what's happening at Turf Moor.
Glad I missed it, driving down to Spain, but my son, who was watching, confirmed that Bindon was rubbish again, Ouma useless when he came on, Grant ineffective, Bell shaky.
Still think we need to return to a back 3, which suits our defenders better.
