Always put money in any pot I pass but only wear a Poppy on Remembrance Sunday, when yet again I will be doing my bit as I have done for 30 plus years.
Haven't seen anyone selling them yet - Help for Heroes were out at Bank this morning.
Would people assume that now there is more than one recognised ex-serviceman charity that total donations have gone up or is the same donation value now shared between the 2 ?

I think total donations have gone up.
If you buy a poppy and donate around that time then you always will. As HfH is all year round so I dont think it would dent the poppy fund, maybe it would even increase it by keeping the armes forces in the spotlight all year?
"Poppy sellers are to receive protection from ex-military personnel this November following recent thefts and abuse.
Guards from the British Legion’s Riders Branch announced that they will protect volunteer poppy sellers in Bradford who are concerned about cruelty or vulnerable to attack.
The move comes in response to “thugs who spat and swore at the youngsters and, in one case, snatched a girl’s collecting tin” "

In Bradford says it all! I wonder what the high population ethinc group live in that city?
Our Legion officially starts promoting and selling locally this Saturday 27th, I will be at our local Asdas on Sunday 4th November, although we have collection boxes etc in the club all year round.
I've sold poppies at my local station for the past several years, so far - touch wood - with hardly any problems. And I live in area with a very high Asian population. (The only problem I have had was with a couple of Irish "gentlemen" who give me some lip but at least they walked off without problem after doing so).
I find many Indian people are very happy to contribute - but often less keen to actually take a poppy. Strange. But it has to be said there are people from other Asian backgrounds who do very rarely buy a poppy.
Unfortunately these days - and perfectly understandably -many people are now frightened to collect in public (because of the fear of attack). And that goes some way to explaining why there are less collectors on the streets these days. Truely, that is a very sad reflection on our times.
I've no service background but think this is such a wonderful appeal I'm very happy to give up some of my time to help out with it. I urge everyone if you see a poppy seller, put a few coins in his/her tin - believe me, there's nothing worse standing there for hours and just watching everyone pass you by!

People who object dont mind living in our free and democratic country that affords them freedom of speech, protection and the Queens £ in their pocket though, their values and morals are not that strong.
I like to have seen someone try that where I used to live - Colchester - there's a para round every corner. I'll be wearing ym poppy with pride this year as ever.
Anyone know how you get involved outside London ? Been looking on the website and cant find anything
Go to the Royal British Legion website and find the volunteers section. They are always on the look out for collectors and I would have thought would jump at your offer with open arms.
To help raise awareness of Remembrance Day, two trains and two buses will be wrapped in Poppy Day livery from 22 October.
A Circle line train, a London Overground train and two buses will sport the striking livery and all Tube, Overground and DLR trains will have a poppy on the front cab.

I am a standard bearer for my local Legion, and also will be volunteering one of my sundays to help sell at my local Asda.
