I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed one of those cup finals a few years back, my mates & myself were wetting ourselves over how they kicked the ball & particularly heading was hilarious ! Bring it back ... why not chuck £500k at it !
I was quite proud of the fact that we gave Arsenal a decent game for a year or two but when it came down to funding and possible administration, then there is no question that the ladies team had to go. What I hope is that Morts can get a squad of SE London ladies back into the top flight again without it costing the club too much. Did I go to see a ladies game? Nope. But I would if my daughter was involved (or if the game was like Oaksters video!)
Regardless of the merits or otherwise of CAFC funding its own womens team (I was sad to see it go but I understand why), I think that for womens footy to prosper it'd be a great idea for it to take place during the Summer months. Footy starved fans could get their fix and maybe it could build a decent following.
I have no doubt that one day in the future, women's footy will be a significant spectator sport as it already is in the USA. I doubt it'll attain the status of the mens game but I don't see why it couldn't eventually compete with, say, county cricket, which doesn't get huge crowds. In athletics for example, the women's side is still not as popular as the mens. The two share an arena but it's generally the men that people pay to come and see - however to illustrate how much womens athletics has come on - it was only in 1972 that women (in the Olympics) were allowed to run further than 800m.
If/when women's footy does really take off and sides can stand on their own two feet financially, it'd be a shame if Charlton weren't one of the big players. The gains for the club as a whole would be in increasing the profile of the Charlton 'brand', which has to be a good thing.
At least if it was in the summer the ground should be pretty dry. This would prevent them getting muddy stockings. I think womens football will never take off. This is primarily due to the bickering within the team about being seen in the same outfits.
I am now more ok with this than I was last month after watching the University of North Carolina win the national championship for women's football this season.

By fit i take it you mean healthy??? Anyone of them that look half decent should play beach volley ball. The rest should get back to the housework and stay away from football pitches

Black Cats chairman Niall Quinn, watching from the stands at Pride Park, looked impressed, and after the match, said: "She's quite useful. I've had a word with Ricky Sbragia about getting her phone number."
like, any thread where a woman is mentioned is basically unreadable at this point, and for what? tedious ninetieth-hand 'banter'? yes I know you're all virile throbbing sex-gods with insatiable libidos that must be quenched (or at least titillated) on a regular basis, but some of you are frankly embarrassing yourselves and embarrassing me for posting on the same website
guess this is the impossible task, huh, bringing the 21st century to a football messageboard
(obviously it's not all of you, before someone leaps in all defensive)

Oh, I don't for a minute think anyone is being serious. Any sexism on this site is surely said with a large dose of irony. It's a bit like making the mistake of thinking that 'Til Death Us Do Part' was racist. It was written by Jonny Speight, a lifelong socialist, to illustrate the idiocy of racists.

Hmm. Firstly I don't think you're right (see the Shard protest thread from earlier), and secondly, even if it is all wonderfully ironic, it's still unfunny and discriminatory. And surely you're not arguing that the misogynist crap I see every day on this site is the work of master humourists satirising the ways of Vulgar Man?

I confess I haven't read any of the Shard protest thread, so can't comment. But surely the 'Would Ya' thread, for example, is ironic; nothing more than a slightly childish excuse to use some colourful language. Whether it's amusing or not is entirely in the eyes of the beholder. I'm a passionate defender of free speech and think the right to say what you want sometimes inevitably leads to the airing of stuff in dubious taste. Am I being self-righteous?
falconwood, women's football is way better than men's football, less bad tackles and more passing moves. Charlton had a really good away following when we had a proper team - 50+ at normal away games, 5,000 for cup finals. I'm going to the women's world cup in Germany in 2011 - tickets are on sale now, and I strongly recommend people buy them, Germany is the place in the world to watch football. It doesn't matter if people go to the games, it's about the profile of the club and we've gone from two cup finals and almost qualifying for the UEFA Cup every year to being third-rate rubbish. Applying for the summer league would show ambition to build back up. It wouldn't cost anything as no way would we be allowed in (16 teams have applied, all of them above Charlton in the pyramid, and only eight will have chosen), but not even bothering to apply makes it obvious that they just don't care. We need a woman Chairman asap to turn things around.
Laughed several times at that. I really hope it was a wind-up.

I too am a passionate defender of free speech and a passionate defender of the fact that free speech also means free criticism :P
Its good to note that when we need an opinion on domestic chores, Victoria sponge cake recipes or shoe purchases we have an expert to provide us with answers.

1) Kitchen/rest of house split is most amicable. I do kitchen.
2) A good cheesecake is even better but despite my love of cooking I don't really fool around with homemade desserts (yet)

I do wonder what your real problem is F&H? As I stated earlier, a personal grievance?

We haven't a 'brand' at the moment, I don't thimk you have one outside of the Premiership.

Fully expect to see a thread about Valley Gold next. It's been a while.
The English can go on demeaning their exceptional female athletes... and, in return, we get your fit women..

stick to your principles and keep up the good work
Yawn

Am a married man, for what that's worth...
But...this doesn't mean no more "who's rack" does it ?
