Still have 2 tickets for premier of Gravity for Tuesday down 02 if any body wants them, i can email them over.

Surprised these havent been snapped up.....I thought it was visually stunning
  • Went to see Thor 2 tonight , really enjoyed it , but then i enjoyed the first one!

Good cast , Christopher Ecclestone , Idris Elba & of course Natalie Portman ... whats not too like!

8.5 out of 10 for me , took my 13 and 17 year old sons who loved it.

Loved the scenes round London , especially Greenwich , can't believe they almost picked Croydon on the map! :-0

If you do go to see it , make sure you stay till the credits go up as theres an extra bit too watch at the end.

Philomena - great stuff. Dame JD at her best, Coogan with a perfect balance of cynicism and laughs.
  • Late plaudits for Captain Phillips. Excellent film held my attention for the full 2 hours plus. Potential Oscar performance from Hanks imo.

Saw captain phillips last week, enjoyable if perhaps slightly too long. Hanks excellent as always. Seeing philomena later this week, sounds good.

If you enjoyed the first Thor, you will definitely like the second. If you were on the fence about the first, you should still see the second - it's a similar style but improved in every aspect, to different degrees admittedly. If you did NOT like the first, definitely avoid the second, it's more of the same, albeit done better.

Good acting (seriously), the action is easily as good as Man Of Steel/Dark Knight Rises/Iron Man 3, and there are a good few genuine deep laughs to be had as well. Highly recommended by me!
  • watched prince avalanche the other day. Not a bad film. both characters were really great to watch, they played of each other brilliantly. but if you can't stand a slow film don't bother watching.

Saw escape plan last week. It's basically the plot of Rambo, but in a prison.
It's a bit silly but enjoyable

Captain Phillips......the build up to the boarding by the pirates ensured that the film was tense until the very end....excellent film.

Agreed. It's testimony to Paul Greengrass that even though I knew what was coming he managed to maintain the tension throughout the whole film. Wouldn't be surprised if Barkhad Abdi gets a best supporting actor nomination in next years Oscars either. Scary man!

Any chance people could give a rating out of 10 for a film they give a review for , pretty please?

Captain Philips is getting some really good reviews on here , have yet to see it, interested in marks out of 10.

    Agree with this.
As an aside (without giving too much away) I thought Tom Hanks was, for most of the film, good without being excellent, but towards the very end, in quite an emotional scene, he pretty much won the Best Actor Oscar.
Those who've seen it will know what I mean.

I saw Capt Phillips recently. Thought it was very well done and tension maintained throughout. Sometimes Tom Hanks annoys me a bit, but not at all in this, he is excellent. I'd give it 8/10 as though it is a well done film of its type, it doesn't stand out that much for me and wouldn't make my top 5.

When you say top 5 Hans , do you mean of the year , or all time?

    2 Guns

Nothing much to recommend here. Lots of shooting but that's about it.

    BYZANTIUM

The best thing about this is obviously Gemma Arterton but apart from that it brings nothing new to the vampire genre.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)

Saw this for the first time yesterday. I love James Stewart and I'm partial to the odd western and this didn't disappoint.

What's luck got to do with it?

Heard good things about that Citizen Kane movie. Welles has apparently employed some nifty techniques...
