Good news for film fans in Eltham, the old Co-op in the high street (currently Poundland) is to be a new multi-screen cinema. Just yards from the old ABC where I used to enjoy Saturday Morning Pictures in the early 70's.
Not a new film (2011) but I just watched 'Source Code' which was brilliant. I highly recommend it if you like sci-fi like Quantum Leap, Memento, or Inception. Or even if you simply believe in Hugh Everitt III

Utter rubbish . His role as Don Logan in Sexy Beast is amazing. Considering our history I would expect you to disagree but I doubt very much you are in the majority .

Source Code,one of the best sci-fi films I've seen.The director Duncan Jones is very talented and also an extremely nice person.The film is only his second feature film.(You should probaly be proud of him because he's English.) His debut,Moon,another sci-fi starring Sam Rockwell,is great too.It was made on a limited budget but managed to look truly impressive.I've seen people compare Gravity with Moon,but the former had a budget 20 times bigger.
Has anyone seen The Darjeeling Ltd, Wes Anderson directing? Have just ordered the DVD but I'd be interested if anyone has an opinion.
Also recommend The Sation Agent, starring Peter Dinklage. A small, gentle but very engaging film in which a dwarf makes a new life for himself in the sticks and becomes part of a close knit group of friends.
Philomena was excellent and Judy Dench absolutely nailed the role of a little old, mildly eccentric Irish lady (a category into which a many of my relatives fall).
I'd strongly recommend A Hijacking, directed by Tobias Lindholm, the Danish guy responsible for Borgen. It concerns the hijacking of a Danish vessel by Somali pirates and the incredibly tense negotiations that ensue. Also, as others have said, the French comedy, Untouchable - an aristocrat, who becomes a quadriplegic after a gliding accident, hires a young man from the banlieues to be his carer. Very funny.
I also saw some good films at the Independent Cinema Office pre-release screenings earlier this month. Dallas Buyers Club, The Lunchbox, Nebraska, Starred Up and Blue is the Warmest Colour all attracted high audience ratings. I was very disappointed with the Coen Brothers' latest offering, Inside Llewyn Davis. They can be a bit hit and miss but I had high hopes for this one.
Thanks Blucher that was interesting. Special effects in Gravity great. Film ok. 7 is about right. Bit more of a girls sci fi with some of the story line.
Just saw Gravity. Special effects are literally out of this world (no pun intended), and all the reports of it being amazing to look at are true - visually it is absolutely stunning. Story is ok - Bullock gives a good performance despite some of the cheese. Special mention for the soundtrack - looking forward to chucking that on my MP3 player and running some miles to it. A solid 8.5 out of 10.

It is very Wes Anderson, for lack of a better description. Which is good or bad depending on whether you know/like the way he works. Good performances all round, including Owen Wilson, surprisingly enough.
Hunger Games Part two.....I quite enjoyed the first one, it wasnt an epic as such, just very watchable. However now having seen pt 2 the first words to leave my mouth as the credits rolled was "What a cracking film" Good storyline, excellent acting (Jennifer Lawrence is quite captivating) and a well fit role for Woody Harrelson...its not an oscar winner but Im going 8/10 for sheer bloody enjoyment and I cant wait for the next one.

Echo your thoughts Tel , i went to see it recently , the only thing that spoilt it for me was those pesky meddling kids who kept shining a laser pen at the screen, really peed me off!
Inside Llewyn Davis - quite baffling at first but starting to figure it out (mainly through asking other people!). Typically Coen with their dialogue and a John Goodman cameo, and an ending that leaves you cold. Really enjoyed watching it though, like Barton Fink, it's really impressive yet realy hard to get your head around. I suspect the music and references will very popular.
Only Lovers Left Alive - weirdest vampire movie ever. It's a character piece where the two leads happen to be ancient vampires (Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston). Performances are great, script has some excellent dialogue and is surprisingly funny, but very much not a mainstream movie, it's Jim Jarmusch.
Nebraska If you loved The Descendants... this is similar in theme and tone, quirky and funny and very low-fi. Bruce Dern is perfect as the ageing dad who insists he's won a lot of money, and the journey he goes on takes him back to his hometown in Nebraska, giving his son a chance to learn more about his dad. Oscar material.
Carrie exists purely because of an equation dreamt up by a movie studio. Not the worst film you'll ever see, but very pointless. In fact, it misses the point entirely by casting a cute, pretty girl as the lead.
I'm a massive Alan Partridge fan and i was so looking forward to seeing this. It's funny but nowhere near as funny as i was hoping but it may grow on me more with further viewings. The best bit is the Roachford - Cuddly toy , singalong.
Took my five year old daughter to see the Advance Screening at Bluewater of the new Disney film "Frozen" this morning. I thought it was lovely. Good story, likeable characters, quite funny and generally entertaining. And that was just my opinion - my daughter was on the edge of her seat either laughing or in awe throughout. And she wasn't alone in this - the cinema was packed, yet towards the end there was a dramatic moment where the place was absolutely silent. The whole thing was really well done. Also, we saw the 3D version, but it really didn't need it. It didn't get in the way of the story the way 3D sometimes does, but it would have been pretty much as good in 2D, I reckon. I must admit, I do have a fondness for Disney animations anyway, but I really enjoyed this one. Do take your kids if you get a chance.

I think so... how old are they?
The subtler stuff will get lost, but the overall feel of the movie is bright and breezy, and some of the more... Stiller-esque moments (the recreation of Benjamin Button, for instance) will make most people laugh, whatever their age!

It has a couple of funny moments but this is probably the most self indulgent film i have ever seen.
