I've been thinking about posting this on here for a while and I've now finally decided to after realising that something needs to be said. I don't know if any of you guys noticed but a Jamaican flag was put up in the G Block of the North Upper for a short time against Yeovil last Saturday then it was shortly taken down, this same flag was also up in the stand behind the goal at Swindon. Well this flag belonged to me and now I'm not Jamaican at all or have anthing to do with the country but I wanted to put up just as something fun after I think Deon Burton has done quite well for us this season and has become a bit of a fans favourite. I was quite sceptical about putting the flag up at first but after having no bad reaction at all at Swindon away I thought it would be fine to put up at The Valley. However whilst putting it up it was tugged down by a fan, which I thought was annoying but I put it back up again but then it happened again. Usually I'm not the sort of guy to back to down from conflict but this guy was bigger, stronger and older than me plus he had his mates with him and I just didn't fancy the hassel. But the worst part of all this was that prior to the 2nd pulling down a group of his mates, sat a few rows behind me started an albeit quite chant of "BNP". Now I find that unacceptable and I think that these so called "fans" if they want to chant things like that should piss off down to The Den, after such a high anti-racism stance our club has taken I couldn't believe their behaviour.

Why tel, its just a national flag of one of our players. Why cant people just be tolerant, whether its in a football ground or not?
I do understand that and I know what SE London is like, but I was talking about it with some friend's as we never do anything fun like that for players or put up signs, I mean Darren Bent scored bucketloads of goals and we didn't do anything for him. The final decision came watching Stoke play Arsenal in the FA Cup and a guy white as you like held up a Jamaican flag as Ricardo Fuller came off and I thought well if he can do it why can't I. So I thought I'll take it to Swindon where you would expect to get mainly the hardcore following, the type of people who would do something and as nobody did or said anything I thought why not at The Valley?

This is exactaly how i feel. I dont like it one bit but i know its part of my club (not part i like). But its not going away anytime soon. Back in the 70's i believe we had links with BNP so there will always be a small minded continjent. I would have backed you up though mate (not that i would be any good in a fight) just think racism is for true wankers.

Personally I'd have asked what the problem was with displaying a flag of one of our most important players but, like you, wouldn't get into aggro as a result.
At Charlton is there will always "them" who dont live in the modern world and will use race as a weapon to insult a player or a fellow fan which is quite scary.

I'm White - British and half Italian, and I did say to one of the guys don't you appreciate Deon Burton's goals and his simple response was "no he's shit" lol

Unfortunately these types of people cannot be reasoned with and you might as well back down.

Yea i read it in a book Terrace Legends (so to be fair its probably ball) by Cass Pennent and it was our representative in there a bloke called "Lyons" said we did in the 70's but as i say its probably ball i hope it is anyway.
Yea right its multi national multi cultural sport so why cant anyone get involved especailly as it in London a city full of multi cultures thats something we (as londoners) should be proud of.

Maybe an old urban legend but wasnt we the last london club to have a black player, hence the BNP linking themselves with us.
Got to admit if I heard someone chanting BNP in this day and age I would think 'pratt' surely they must have been youngsters or donuts.
