[cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]Got the box set of Sopranos - waiting to start watching. The box set of the Wire got us through last winter. Ebay is great for cheap box sets then sell them on after. So the wire cost me 10 quid all in all.
That's £10 more than it cost me. :-)

Best thing about Atlantic is the chance to watch stuff from the beginning again. BBC, C4 and co., who lost the rights to Entourage et al, said they didn't want to show repeats anyway. Worst claim ever.

Sky will show them all from start to finish, which is a major reason to buy the bigger HD box!! The Wire, from start to finish, is a must. If you haven't been converted by the best (un)written show, Curb, then now's the chance.

I'm hoping for Deadwood, as I completely missed it. Also, Six Feet Under starts this Thursday I think.

Entourage is stupid, but really fun. If they get to start that from the beginning it'll make a perfect entry for the Sky+ planner.

Website here - http://skyatlantic.sky.com/ - goes live around 5pm, but judging from the noises I can hear from the dev team behind me, there could be a few teething problems for the first month. Once it's up and running, you can find and watch/ record the shows using the site.

BTW - It's all change on Sky tonight. Sky 1 and Movies are getting a makeover (the Sky Movies new look is really cool, and epic compared to the current, rather rubbish lights) and Living becomes Sky Living.

I've going to sky plus most of this stuff and not watch it straight away. iI there a way to transfer sky+ to a pc or is it all encrypted?

I did this with some Sky Sports News (footage of Vicky Gommersall falling for the Mike Hunt letter trick and bobby Robson /being very Bobby-like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCNCRxhiHnU) and I used a box... can't remember what it's called... something like Calypso or something... it plugs into the Sky box using a scart lead, and then plugs into a computer, and used iMovie) and there were no encryption issues. Unless they did a deal with HBO to encrypt it, I don't think it'll be an issue!

    Has anybodies planner updated yet????

Mine still states Sky3 on channel 108?

(Yes, do have HD box, and looke at tomorrows date)

Checked tonight and mine hasn't updated yet, can't wait for Boardwalk tomorrow.

As for what to watch are there any recommendations for what hasn't been shown here before? I will watch Treme as I am a massive Wire fan, but since I have seen Sopranos, Deadwood, Curb, 6 feet under and nearly finished OZ (do not watch if you are easily offended!) what else should I look forward to?

You seen Six Feet Under at all? It's very good, not much happens but it's brilliantly written and performed. There's some cop thing with Tom Selleck and Donnie Whalberg which looks good as well but I dunno if it;s anygood. Think they are showing Hung as well, which is really, really good. Dunno if it's from season one though.

Just watched the pilot fo Blood Blues, was fairly good. Nowhere near as good as The Wire etc but seems promising.

Bit of a mixed bag. Some good re-runs, some not so exciting re-runs (X-Files/ER on constant rotation), some biog channel rejects and boardwalk empire/boardwalk empire repeats. It's nice to have, but I'm not seeing what it brings to the party that FX doesn't. My fear is that they cancel FX which broke a few less mainstream shows that might have been a bit beyond the more mainstream Sky viewership.

[cite]Posted By: Leroy Ambrose[/cite]Entourage is crap. Most over-hyped piece of toss I've ever seen. Jeremy Piven is great in it - but he's the only thing that's good about the show. Have resisted Mad men up until now, just downloaded season 1 and will give it a go. I waited until all the hype about Lost died down before watching it, and it was all the better for it. Boardwalk Empire is really good, and the Sopranos up to season 4 is also great (it tailed off badly after that though)

Your wrong. Entourage is superb as was the final season of Sopranos.
Not seen Mad Men BUT i have seen the entire season of Boardwalk Empire and enjoyed it but it's not up to the standard of say "The Wire" or "Dexter".

Agree with you Beds, I love Entourage. Never met a person so far that has watched it and not enjoyed it, the script writers have a lot of fun with Ari and they get some brilliant cameos in there. Just take it for what it is Leroy, a bit of fun.

Apparently it will be on be on Virgin but not for a couple of months yet.

Boardwalk Empire, sky + series linking it but missed the first ep (though it's on player so that's ok)... considering I love that genre: Godfathers, Goodfellas, Casino, Donnie Brasco, de Niro, Pacino, Pesci etc... worth a look from those that have seen it?

Really waiting for Atlantic to get going. There's a lot more to come, the first week doesn't do it justice.

There is a law on ad breaks, I think it's something like an average of 12 mins per hour over the course of a day. Meaning they will be longer on some channels in the evening, at peak times. From what I know, all channels abide by this rule...

Bedsaddick - The Wire and Dexter do not belong in the same sentence haha

Leroy - Entourage is stupid - but it's the most watchable stupid show ever. Real wish-fulfillment stuff. And Lost? It seems a bit odd that one must wait for fuss to die down in order for a show to be enjoyed more. Sounds a bit smug to me. "Hey, I watch Lost when no one else does. Ner nikky ner ner".... it's a 42 minute tv show you watch in your living room... why is it better now than before? Ironically, of all the shows in the world, figuring out and second guessing Lost is what made it such a fun experience. Waiting for everyone else to say "meh, what else is on?" is really strange. But hey, if you think it makes the content of the DVD box more exciting, here's to you!

Liked Boardwalk but not overwhelmed by it yet. Buscemi is excellent as always but some of the other characters didn't grab me. The ads did seem interminable even fast forwarding through them.

[cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]Treme is the show I'm looking forward to .
What is this about and when does it start?

I noticed it has Joanie from Deadwood in it, which is enough of a recommendation for me...

Treme - is written by the good people who gave us the wire! Also features some of the actors as well. It's about set in New Orleans post Katrina. I cant wait for this.
  • Options
Yeah Treme looks amazing, although that's mainly done to the song the song choice in the tv adverts

Boardwalk Empire - watched episode 1 last night and loved it, would strongly recommend for anyone who likes Scorsese, De Palma, Coppola etc. The costumes, set design, music etc are all fantastic.

Who'd have thought both Robert De Niro and Stephen Graham would've played the same role in their careers!

All be it at vastly different stages of Al capone's life. Both great actors . One on the way up and the other has lost the art acting he is so famous for.

Oh yes of course, vastly different times of Capone's life but in a way that's what was all the more intriguing about it. I must say Stephen Graham is probably my favourite British actor - fantastic in Snatch, This is England, Public Enemies and looks like he's at home playing the obnoxious cheeky-chappie young Capone in this as well

A bit harsh on De Niro in my opinion but both him and Pacino have received some shockingly bad scripts in recent years so I agree to an extent.
