I'm there Tuesday Chirpy , been backing Hurricane Fly since before Christmas so hoping for big pay day !!! and then have it all on Quevaga in last race if I get that far
Got 12/1 on Kauto just after he lost the King george , ruby back on board you never know
Denman man myself too but could make a case for any of the first four in the betting winning the GC - going to be a tough one betting-wise so may limit myself to a cheeky e/w punt on Tidal Bay and just enjoy the race
Plenty of big betting opportunities elsewhere during the week
[cite]Posted By: JT[/cite]Not at all, particularly with Ruby back on board. 11/2, 6/1ish is a cracking price. I am a Denman man though.
Going down Thursday night for St Patrick's & racing on Friday.
NB I thought Denman was out of the Gold Cup ? No he's still in. He had a wind operation after coming 3rd in The Hennessey- that' what I was thinking of.
Not sure if this allowed at the forum( I have checked rules first and see anything say dont do it) Just wanted to share my Cheltenham 2011 Facebook page with you, it will include some tips from shrewd people from within the industry once the festival is up running so well worth getting involved. Feel free to remove this BTW should it be harming anyone.
[cite]Posted By: Exiled_Addick[/cite]So who are the big tips for the Gold Cup or are there any other dead certs on GC day? Where's Peanuts when you need him?
Sorry Exiled, my statistical model only applies to the National…………a man's got to know his limitations.
Mind you I can stick my pin the paper with the best of ‘em and will happily give you my (very unreliable) pennyworth.
To some degree there are question marks over each of the 3 previous winners and all of the young pretenders still have something to prove (even Long Run at this trip on this course, judging by his run in the RSA last year). One thing that is certain is that it will be run at the customary gruelling pace as there are several that like to make the running, so I’ll look for an each way bet on a relatively unfancied one that likes to be held up and (hopefully) will be staying on past tiring horses.
What A Friend (despite his ghastly owner, high head carriage and propensity to wander) would be tempting at 50/1 if Nicholls does put the blinkers on (Garrison Savannah won it in headgear) but he gives the impression he prefers flatter tracks to Cheltenham (made little impression in the RSA 2 years ago).
So I’ll be a little less greedy and take the 20/1 each way for the quirky but talented Tidal Bay who has been placed on both occasions over 3m+ at Cheltenham and was just 7 lengths behind Imperial Commander in the Ryanair 2 years ago. On paper he is held by the Commander also over 3 miles but there has to be a suspicion that the latter isn’t absolutely 100%.
Only 4 favourites came home last year at Cheltenham. Don't get sucked in by the hype.EG Cue Card in the first. Ok he won the Bumper last year and has shown good form but 9/4 in a 24 horse race is quite ridiculous. Only 6 favourites have won in the last 31 runnings of the Sumpreme Novices and none in the last 6 years.
There is so much value in many of the races. Forget the Championship races and specialist ones like the Mares hurdle. Stick to the big fields like the handicaps and novice races. Don't be put off by big odds. There were plenty of 20/1+ winners last year and most years. Do plenty of Each Ways. Enjoy and only spend what you can afford to lose.
Cheers guys. I've got a couple of free bets floating about on various online accounts that I've set up recently so I'll probably use some of those up and save my 'real' money for the National.
1.30 - Cue Card
2.05 - Medermit
2.40 - Adams Island
3.20 - Khyber Kim
4.00 - Gullible Gordon
4.40 - Quevega
5.15 - Swing Bill
No idea what the above are, no idea on prices etc just had a quick look at the card and picked out some random names. Could all be outsiders or could be the 7 favourites for all i know. Anyway, thats my pick. Will be gutted if they all came in but much more likely that I sit back tomorrow night safe in the knowledge I had saved myself a nice £2, lol
1.30 - Recession Proof
2.05 - Medermit (NAP)... e/w interest in Stagecoach Pearl
2.40 - Blazing Bailey (small sentimental bet, not a pick)
3.20 - <undecided on main bet> though I will definitely be taking Khyber Kim e/w
4.00 - Maljimar
4.40 - Quevega (nb)
5.15 - Tullamore Dew

Only one horse going to win the gold cup and thats imperial commander, and thats practically from the horses mouth. No great price so put the one you fancy in a forecast with it. I actually fancy Denman to come in second, but dont doubt who the winner will be.
Won me a lovely sum last year uncle off around 14's from memory?
In my opinion, 10/3 is a bit skinny considering the class in the field, spent class perhaps, but class still... undecided on the Gold Cup at present but might take on the e/w market with a higher price rather than pick one of the "stars"
Can't have IC this year. Very open nonetheless. Stats are against Denman & Kauto but they are freaks so the stats don't really include them. Would love Denman to do it, favourite horse of past 5 years.

People said the same about Kauto before, so go careful...
