Yes Dan, Tattoos are not to everyone's taste, however they are 'addictive', personally I like tattoos and good quality, well thought out and designed tat's on the fairer sex look very good and can be very sexy.

Putting that 'joke' aside for a minute, it's not dis similar to the guy who wants to start a website up and was looking for ideas as to what the website should be about. Each to their own absolutely but i think this recent increase in tatoo poularity is going to lead to even more of your lemmings / sheep who are going to be regretting their 'body art' a bit later in life.

You're right. Tattoos should have meaning to that person as they're going to be there for the rest of their life. The increase of tattoos will probably lead to move removals later down the road, perhaps a good business venture would be to set up a tattoo removal surgery? Two of my mates have spent significant money on tattoo removals and if you think it hurts getting them done...

I didnt get it because I buy into Eastern culture. Myself and my daughter agreed that the pearl represented her and the dragon was me protecting her. Soppy, but a nice connection.
I have a koi dragon on my other leg. The myth says that the koi swims up the river and if it makes it is rewarded by turning into a dragon. The koi dragon tattoo is about change. I got it shortly after I got married so I guess there is a link/meaning behind it.

Putting that inverted comma sarcasm aside for a minute, I make you right. People getting tattoos because they're popular are complete f***ing idiots. Any tattoo artist worth his salt absolutely hates tattooing nauses like that - but if they're stupid enough to get it done, then f*** 'em. Personally, I have loved oriental tattoos since I was a kid. An old Japanese bloke lived near me when i was young, and must have been a very naughty boy when he was younger, because he had the best tattoos I've ever seen - and was the inspiration behind me getting my koi and dragon. I am eventually getting my back done with a couple of Nio (Japanese temple guardians) - not because I think they look cool, or because it's fashionable, but because I want it.
You should realise - just because you don't 'understand' something, doesn't mean everyone else doing it is doing it just because of the reasons you imagine.
Well said Leroy, a piece of advice I was given is that you only have a tattoo for one person and thats yourself.
All my work are Budo inspired designs (Samurai Tattooist Horiyoshi and Horimouja, with certain adaptations by myself, I am a graphic designer) and after over 30 years in the martial arts I know what I want and more importantly the significance and meaning of the art that I wear!

Tattooing is not what it once was. Most artists (decent ones anyway) will future proof their work. I.E it will be done in such a way that the colours won't bleed. As long as you don't expose them to fierce sunlight without strong sun tan lotion the quality of inks nowadays mean that they don't really fade either.
The dragon in the centre of my piece was done first and is 4 years old and doesn't look any different to the day it was done.

The reason I say he must've been a nughty boy is that tattoos in Japan were (and still very much are) associated with organised crime - their society is still ultra-conservative and frowns on body art. Fifty years ago, when the bloke would have been getting his tattoos in downtown Tokyo/Kobe/Osaka he would have had to have been a Yakuza to have the nuts get them done.
Also Dan, if you check out the full body tattoos the Japanese have they never go below the wrist and ankle also they never tattoo the centre of the chest so they can have an open shirt/ jacket and the tattoo cannot be seen.
I have to agree with B D i dont get it,in my opinion the human body looks far better without any form of tattooing, piercing or mutilation.
I have spoke to some people who have tattoos etc and they have stated that they wanted to have something done to themselves that was personal to them. Now I am all for individuality but it appears to me that this recent trend is far from a statement of individuality, it is quiet the reverse.
