Has it said anywhere how long his contract is for?
No. Evina 2 yrs, Hayes 3 yrs but no mention of how long Alonso's is.
  • Just what i thought...seems strange not to mention it. Perhaps it is only a year.
  • Agree about Mambo - Jenkisnon went on loan to Eastbourne and what ever happened to him ;-)

Different animal though. Over 6 foot, fairly quick and maybe with someone to guide him (Doc) he might do alright.

i have said i wouldn't mind francis at center back for the same reasons you note, but again as you said it's a different animal, no harm in trying in pre season though!

I'd like to see Francis given a couple of pre-season games at right wing. Even his harshest critics admit he is great going forward, so why not see how he fares with less defensive responsibility?
    i don't

No harm in trying in a match that doesn't mean anything, but I'd only want to see Francis play as a back-up to Chris Solly and get the odd start here and there.

Makes you wonder how awful Southend must have been when he won player of the year. I believe there is a good player in there somewhere i just wonder if he may have been slightly more exposed with the lack of pace at centre half.

I think that SF's best position might be right midfield

just goes to show how often effort is the thing that wins player of the year awards

we are a bigger club than southend maybe it was the pressure to do well! and in that he was trying to hard! hence miss kicks, bad passing etc! but good in the air and ok at crossing

Perfectly serious. He can't defend for toffee but he's got a bit of pace and can get forward and get in a half decent cross.

Just read on Sky Sports that Mikel's brother put in a good word for us:

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11719_7000969,00.html

'He added: "My brother speaks well and gives good references about the club, the people here and its history. I am looking forward to coming to London."'

Always thought that Xavi was a quality chap....I'm sure it runs in the family!

    " We've got 2 Alonso's, we've got 2 Alonso's "......sounds good to me.

"can't be any worse than at right back"!  .................and that's a reason to play him right midfield ? The bloke is a disaster, yes when he has got forward he has put a few decent balls into the box, but that is over the course of a WHOLE SEASON. By the law of averages some of his crosses would HAVE to be semi decent but (to my knowledge) only 1 at Orient led directly to a goal. Some are complaining that wagstaff "only" had 10 assists was it ?

Most of the time when he has got forward his passes has been misplaced & the move has broken down. End of the day if we're serious about getting out of Division 3 we go with a natural wide man (Wagstaff) or we bring one in, not play a donkey because he's shit in the position that we bought him for.....apologies to donkeys & the great work that donkey sancturies do.

    Length of contract ?

Picked up from the Tenerife FC website "......temporada con opción"
Which I'll guess probably means "for the season with option".......?

ISaw, my Spanish speaking friend, what do you reckon?

    Cheers, ISaw!

So the mystery of the length of Alonso's contract has been solved = 1 year with option.

Indeed and a good spot Detective.

Though it is interesting why it seems there has been a deliberate decision not to announce that on the OS.
