Bit of a disappointing contribution from you Henry. I was expecting you to nominate some obscure African world music albums, at least one Jamaican reggae pioneer and a deep south American blues artist who was actually better than Elvis.
Too many people naming far too many albums and too many David Bowies. I am a massive Bowie fan but to seriously say that Low does not have a duff track is beyond me, side 2 is crap save Art Decade.
To listen to some of the best of the genres you nominate:1. Tinariwen - Imidiwan2. Bunny Wailer - Blackheart Man3. Tony Joe White - Black & WhiteCheck them out Chirpy - open your ears.0 -

Gotta say this is a brilliant list, maybe not so modern, but there is loads here I personally agree with as complete albums. On the Robert Johnson, wonderful call, but in my view doesn't qualify as an album as such, more a fantastic archive with some songs on their twice. Still great though.

To be honest Ken, I cannot lie. It did come as a surprise that you had Hendrix "up there"......0

A challenge, can anybody nominate a Van Morrison album? I have one in mind, but it is boarderline under the rules.0

Should exclude live albums also, especially as many have been tampered with to ensure they sound good. Best live albums would be a good thread in itself.

Agreed
wonderful album, agreed0 -
Ah, another one:To my own surprise, Grafitti Soul, the last album from Simple Minds, (save for a limp and pointless cover of Rockin in the Free World). If you liked them in the 80s, you'd love this0

Transformer - Lou Reed<br
I think it's THE greatest LP of all time, but I reckon it could have gone without NY Telephone Conversation. However, I did meet my girlfriend to the sound of it playing in a Cafe in Nottingham.0 -
Isis - OceanicIsis - PanopticonMastodon - LeviathanOpeth - Blackwater ParkRadiohead - OK ComputerRadiohead - Kid ABaroness - Red AlbumI can't quite add Tool's Aenima or Lateralus. Despite being two of my favourite albums, there are a couple of er, peculiar tracks.0
-
High praise indeed. NY Telephone Conversation is not a classic but not a duffer IMHO.

OK, Sandinista was a joke of mine, although I do actually like it a lot. But seriously, and this may come as no surprise to a few people, I'll go with Liars by Todd Rundgren. In my very humble opinion there's not a duff track on that album. And this from an artist who not only seems to thrive on alienating fans from one album to the next, but often from even one track to the next...

Good to see some self discipline creeping in, admissions sbout much loved albums by much loved artists/bands having some dodgy moments.Hard to accept but we all know we convince ourselves the odd track is better than it is.
Alex the Whitney album is a good call, even though it isn't my cup of tea, in the context of what it is it is a good 'un.
Like the idea about a thread about best live album.
