if we do make it to the championship I think Wagstaff, Euell, Alonso, doherty, sullivan and hughes should be released or sold because they won't cut it in the championship and haven't impressed this season!

Even though this thread was originally meant as a joke I'll join in.

Whatever we do in summer transfer deals I hope that we are in profit by the end of it.

Regardless of the division we are in (and yes I am being serious) I would be happy to see one or two of our key players go if it pays for the strengthening of the squad or reduces our debt.

The current squad even with the removal of a couple of players is good enough to challenge for League 1 promotion again or mid table in the Championship.

We have plenty of young fringe players and they need to be given the chance to prove themselves.

On that basis we will naturally lose the likes of Doherty, Alonso, Euell and Hughes due to contracts not being renewed. If he's good enough then Mambo should replace Doherty as 4th choice central defender, Alonso needs no replacement as he hasn't been part of the set up. Hughes could be replaced by Russell on a permanent deal. Euell has already been replaced by Clarke or Haynes.

With Clarke and Haynes only recently signed I think it would be churlish to suggest that we bring in another striker. We have 5 first team strikers and only if we are able to sell one should we bring in another.

Sell before we buy should be the philosophy that is applied throughout the squad.

I'm looking for financial and on field stability next year.

Wouldn't mind Simeon Jackson and can see Norwich letting him go.

Think we should go for and older experienced gk and maybe send Hamer out on loan. He is still fairly young for a goalkeeper.

I think Powell and Slater/Jiminez will be far more ruthless than that, johnny73.

''Keeping faith wth the players who got us here'' is a noble sentiment. But there is no room for sentiment. As they did last summer, they will look at every position on the pitch from 1 to 11 and ask if they need to improve.

In four or five positions, they will surely conclude that they can. And I say that as no criticism of the current squad, who are excellent and have made me enjoy watching CAFC for the first time in four or five years.

You are right sentiment plays no part in it. I wouldn't keep the players for any reason other than they are good enough. I believe they will want to improve the squad but at the same time will be financially prudent. I remember Powell saying at the start of the season that the players were brought in as part of a long term philosophy. We have some natural wastage but I do not think we will see a big turnover of players.

I only went for goals & assists that were 5 or more , as it wouldn't all fit in , but there were a few surprises who were less than 5.

I guess a lot of this depends on contracts , wages & what sort of budget we've got.

Hayes has got 5 assists to his name, but hasn't played for ages, shows how much we have missed him really, though Kermorgant has been influential in different ways since he came into the squad.

I think we need a new, experienced GK to help further Sullivan and Hamer, a new RB as cover for Solly, another CB to replace Doherty, a new RM to cover the sale of Wagstaff, a new LM as cover for Jackson (who will move into central midfield in 2 years time) and a new ST to replace BWP, who we will sell in the summer.

Sam position wise , all sounds good, you really think BWP's off, whys that then?

I would love Lee Martin and Lee Tomlin. Quality players. Are they realistic targets though?

Bearhino of Brentford will be a name on a few lists after tonight's impressive show on the box. At 18, looks like "one for the future"

Looking at those lists (the championship ones), there is a familar name in Andy Reid.

As Forest are going down, he won't want to play in div three. He's only 29 (which surprised me - I'd have guessed he was a few years older). I know it's always dangerous going back. But there's a strong argument that says Charlton's decline started with his sale.

Could our revival start with his re-signing?

I really liked Reid but him and Jackson are to similar in the fact that they're both slow but have a great left peg. So maybe Jackson could be moved inside if we got Reid.

I also like the look of another of forests players which is McGugan.

I just think we'll sell him off to gain some extra money, as I think CP will want to try and bring in someone with more quality. If he does and BWP finds himself on the bench, he will probably move on to another top league 1/mid table championship team. I don't really want it to happen that way, but I can see it happening

What about poaching some more top league 1 players? If Stevenage win play-offs we could poach a couple off of Udders, MK, and Wendies...

I.e. Powell (MK Dons), Jermaine Johnson (Sheff Wed)...
